What is the max width you have milled with your 661? Of wider than 30”, where do you find bars longer than 36”? What is the longest bar you would run on the 661?

WE got a 36" slab from a fallen OAK tree.... vertical drying caused BOWING... and so I laid them out on an open IRON table FLAT and tied them down FLAT, with 4x4 between them, they are 3" slabs. Our AC is running outside and putting out some incredible heat... I placed them in front of it.

As a portable setup we can not forgtthe amount of time it takes to set up a lucas VS a chainsaw mill. I can get the first cut done with my chainsaw mill in about 15-20 minutes. How long does it take to set up a Lucas as a portable setup? Dont get me wrong. I want one. I plan to Just because of the capacity it can handle with ease.

What type of glue are you using? PVA? Type-II or Type-III? I use a thin piece of sheet plastic (like from plastic tool packaging or a plastic milk jug) to force glue into the joint.

It's a cool trailer but it's a single purpose tool. At least with a utility trailer with a log Arch if you're not hauling log you still have a utility trailer

Well came here for some reassurance on drilling my 800$ Cannon bar. Im new the the chainsaw mill side. Been around band mills for 35 years. The chainsaw milling is new. I have a MS880 with a 72" Cannon bar. Inly made about 10 cuts with it and know already the I need the Aux oiler kit I bought. My oiler looks identical, but it's a panda steel speacial, so there are no instructions. Kinda figured this is how it was installed but still wanted to see someone else do first 😂

I like the idea but at 3.50 mark on your video is the reason I think I'll pass on this design messing around under suspended loads is a huge no no for me maybe a reaching tool to hook into your cross member so you don't have to risk your life to a weld not snapping or a chain or hook failure winch malfunction sudden blown tire causing load to shift something like that doesn't even have to fall to seriously mess you up please be careful and come up with a solution to more safely load your logs

There are a few manufacturers who make bandsaw mills with a super wide cut but they aren’t cheap. I think the Hud-Son Oscar 52 is the cheapest at around 23k starting price, it’s also the smallest cut at 48 inches. The prices and sizes climb way up from there. Bandsaws are faster and have a lot of advantages but they can’t be setup over the log like a Lucas or some of the other chain mills. Another expense is equipment to get the logs to and on the bandsaw mill, and only the smaller ones are towable. Most of the real wide ones are not portable and require a good foundation.

That's good for repairing an older project but, this is a new project so you would have been better off to use s thin kerf blade and just rip cut along the glue line and re-glue that piece back on.

Not all regional forest are the same, here in the Pacific Northwest the power ban to perform and the size of tree is critical for safe falling. Cutting 8 and 12 ft across the stump and bigger requires 881 or 3120 type saws to push the chain through the wood. But most everyone is running 90cc saws for smaller 48 to 36 inch trees and smaller. 90cc will only hold so much bar effectively and you'll be destroying your clutch, and other parts.

One thing I noticed, the first chain was a full chisel and second one semi chisel. I have used both for milling. Yes the full chisel leaves a horrible finish. The semi chisel left a much smoother cut. Both were ground to the standard 30° angle. Thats just my thoughts.

Somebody needs to patten a bottom that can sift the ashes. Heavy grade steel platform. Cut the bottom out of the drum and slip the drum over it.
