My apologies if I rain on your parade. Here’s a twist to this love story that has become more popular than any K-drama. She’s a content creator after all. The more popular she gets, the more money she makes on her channel. He was already a target back in 2020. And to kill two birds with one stone, why not latch onto someone who was already world famous and a very decorated gymnast like Yulo, as he is a multiple SEA Games and world champion who has garnered a slew of medals when she first reached out to him on X. Luckily for her, Carlos took the bait on X. And Carlos? He’s still at the stage where he’s not able to discern whether it’s real love or just his hormones working. Just saying… Also, being an independent content creator is no biggie in the US. They don’t make much. To put it simply, it’s what people who don’t have real jobs do. Your earnings are not stable because it depends on several variables like content sustainability, frequency of posts, number of subscribers, endorsements, etc. I came across an article about her net worth. How on earth can you even calculate that when nobody seems to know who she really is, or what her assets and liabilities are. Oh well, ignorance is bliss so people just romanticize the pair. Consider the timeline. They started corresponding with each other in 2020. They finally met for the 1st time at the Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi (May 2022). It’s safe to assume that this was when the bad blood with his mom started brewing, as the gf consequently started staying with Yulo at the athletes’ housing in Japan. And to make an intelligent guess, this was also the time frame when disagreements with Kugimiya, his coach since he was 13 years old, started. Training is very rigid in this field of sports, and any distraction from the set routine is a big no-no since it interferes with any…and I mean any athlete’s training. More often they put athletes in camps so they can focus. The reason for the fallout between Yulo and his Japanese coach was the girlfriend, according to his mom’s lawyer and an Inquirer article. More than likely, Kugimiya may have been too strict about Yulo’s relationship and being Japanese, a stickler to his principles who wanted Yulo to solely focus on his training, while Yulo desired a little freedom so he could spend time with his girlfriend. Either way, shortly after the Asian Championships in Singapore (June 2023), Yulo and his coach parted ways. Then came the World Championships in Antwerp (Sep-Oct 2023) which was the qualification event for the 2024 Paris Olympics. With his skill level, Yulo’s performance was very disappointing. (Duh! Tell me about it! How can he practice when the gf is always seen all over him. That’s for ditching his coach and turning his back on his whole family, from his grandmother down to his siblings who he hasn’t visited since hooking up with his girlfriend.) During the qualification round, Yulo fell onto his back on his still rings dismount. He also crashed his vault and was given a score of 0 for not landing feet-first. He finished last out of the 91 gymnasts who competed in the all-around. Bummer! That’s a big blow to his ego! However, he still qualified for the floor exercise finals where he finished 4th. Even though he didn’t qualify through the team or all-around competitions, Yulo qualified for the 2024 Olympics simply out of technicality, since he is the highest-ranked gymnast. Kung baga, pasang-awa. At this juncture, he should have realized that his lack of focus and the loss of his coach due to the girl did have a negative effect on his performance. Nevertheless, this was his reality check. For sure he took this downfall so hard and he knew that he had to work twice as hard in order to redeem himself. His failure in Antwerp was a big blow to his ego so it was his desire to reclaim his “crown” that gave him the determination to win. It’s not because his gf inspired him. That’s just bs. Saving his face was his motivation to win - which he did by bagging 2 golds. Good for him. He did beyond great. He did his country proud. Everyone’s in a state of euphoria that he, like Pacquiao, put the Phils. on the map - much like when a Filipina wins the Miss Universe competition. But wait. After he won, he didn’t even thank or mention his coach for 10 years nor his own family. If he was just mad at his mom, he could have at least mentioned his grandma, his dad, or his siblings. Instead, he thanked his gf and her family. Wtf? What’s up with that? They’ve all been there for him since he was born up until last year. Maybe he’s just over the moon with his newly found love, so he’s acting like a kid who entered a candy store for the first time. Trust me, this romantic phase will end and reality will sink in at some point. It never fails. So Carlos, wake up and smell the roses. Find a way to reconnect with your family. And then either find a way to make your gf also love your family, if not, find another girl altogether who will not fight with your family. There’s a lot more important things (rampant corruption, income inequality, nepotism, failure to promulgate your laws, etc.) and your victory that the country needs to talk about other than your gf.
