Horses of Iceland

Horses of Iceland

The Icelandic horse is a unique and special breed which has been with Icelanders since the first settlers arrived over a thousand years ago. You will not find any other breed of horse anywhere in Iceland - but you will find plenty of Icelandic horses all around the world. The Icelandic horse has a fanatical following at home and abroad - a global community of people in 20 countries who are inspired by its character and good nature. The Icelandic horse is gentle, willing, tough, and versatile. It is exceptional in that it has five gaits including flying pace and the unique tölt. The Icelandic horse grants us freedom, encourages outdoor activities and quality time with family and friends.
Horses of Iceland is a holistic marketing project, to raise the awareness about Horses of Iceland all around the world, giving more people the opportunity to meet, own, or experience the Icelandic horse in closeness to nature.

At 5.57: The rider on the black horse isn't able to stay close to the saddle during trott - probably he has only ridden Icelandics going tjöld/Tölt from the very beginning. Although he is a tournament rider his back remained stiff which is of course uncomfortable for the poor horse especially when the rider's weight is high.

These are my favorite horses and will be my favorite horses forever. Me and my friend used to lease two of them, a bay gelding named Squirrel and a grullo mare named Zora. Squirrel is of course not an Icelandic name, but I think Zora is?

Would love to see the horses in their natural habit. I had two when I was younger. One of them, a mare, came from Iceland. Her name was Perla and she came from Stokkseyri. She had one foal here in Sweden. My other were born in my country and named Bliki. Loved them both and the breed is still my dream horse! 🖤🖤🖤🖤

Sandra N Lembo Santamarina I won’t comment on the spelling and grammar as I’m guessing that English isn’t your first language...but the Icelandic Horses have been domesticated for thousands of years. As much as I love seeing any horse in a natural environment, there is something about the bond that a horse and human can have that deserves to be acknowledged and appreciated. Yes, there are plenty who abuse that power and/or are only using the horses for money, but there are just as many who truly thrive on the horse and human bond. The organization that is being discussed here is trying to show people the beauty and talents of this unique and wonderful breed of horse which is admirable. Also, the Icelandic Horses’ ‘extra’ gaits are not man made. They are gaits that the horse has naturally. I hope this was able to clear a few things up for you 🙂 Of course, there is nothing wrong with appreciating the beauty of these horses in their natural environment, but there is also nothing wrong with appreciating their beauty in a domesticated setting.
