Nice !
I am going to try threading my hands through the handles like you did here! I learned with the handles dragging along the ground, which can be distracting.
oh yeah, you'll love this better! let me know how it goes xx~LL
Can you make workout with beachball?
Great video! Thank you. You really cleared some things ❤
Great video! thanks!
Hey OPC LL :) My first attempt at this after being a member for a few months! It's exciting to see the whole shebang put together! From headstands I became an observer, not ready for this in my practice yet. There's no reason I couldn't get to it though. Thank you for putting this together, and for your incredible teaching
awe Elle, I'm sooo happy that you're part of OPC family! The classes each week do help you get those connections that allow you to build your practice with amazing foundations. And yes, someday headstands will be in your practice. Way to celebrate what you can do now and also give yourself permission to skip whats not in your practice, yet. xx~LL
Great video! thanks! I find that the knee stretches is one of the hardest exercise to explain where the movement comes from. You mainly feel your hands, your stamina and maybe your abs, but not so much your glutes.
thank you for sharing this. If you're feeling your hands in knee stretches you're missing the arm back connection. You def should feel your abs, think mountain climber. if glutes and hamstrings are not connecting then I'd check the feet connection into the shoulder rests and then how the pelvis is moving in the exercise. Its very much a full body but there are some great glutes to be had in it:)
Thank you!!! Loved the easy explanation and queuing
thanks! We also have an updated video of this that has better audio and lighting :) xx~LL
Amazing
thanks for taking class with me xx~LL
I’ve learned so much from your teaching. Where can I get a mat like yours? Ty
Yay thank you so much! I've always love hearing how helpful these videos are. My Mat is contrology and I do have a discount link for you. If you got to opc.me/perks you can find it. However, sometimes its better if I email you and my connection there so you can ensure you get the discount. Feel free to dm me on IG to assist ya. xx~LL

Some people having cramps on the top leg especially glutes part, may I know why does it happen?
several reasons why! I'd have to see them move to give you your clients situation specifically. I'll go live soon on this to go through all the reasons more in depth but it could be they're not ready for it yet, they're doing too many, their strap placement isn't ideal, they're coming up too high... they need salt. xx~LL
Me too I have done 1 on 1 my whole career as a therapist. This was so encouraging for me . Loved your video
love it! So glad you liked this video! xx~LL
just put together a beginner mat class for some friends and these videos of yours from 9 years ago are so simple, easy, and straight forward. hard to believe just 3 likes and no comments...
awe yay! SO happy to hear this! These videos are very old. And we have updated versions of all of them. Plus, if you love class planning I now have Flashcards with all the mat exercises! Let me know if you have any questions. And thank you for your love on my videos xx~LL
I’m very much like the person who was described. I’m testing out this week, I very much prefer private sessions because I can be quite introverted and feel intimidated and uncomfortable trying to teach a group. My teacher let me teach a warm up to the beginner class and it was ok, but I had a hard time managing to get the words out and look at the group, which was actually quite small (4 people and her). I did get through it, but I rushed through it more than I thought because of my nerves, and I’m used to not needing to project my voice. Anyway, great question for you to answer and talk about. Thanks.
Absolutely ok to be amazing at teaching privates! Like I said there are many people who prefer classes. The nerves do go away after awhile. Projecting your voice is needed. But also some places use microphones which make it easier to protect your voice. xx~LL
@@OnlinePilatesClasses thanks. I might get more comfortable with groups as I continue to teach and build confidence in my teaching skills and style.

I do 20 minutes every morning morning (yoga other days) and two classes a week. Love it all.

I train muay thai in Thailand and developed sciatica so bad I couldn't walk so took ten privates and, OMG, I became a convert. Helped me heal and now I do MT twice a week and pilates twice and love both. 57 so helps me keep going!
Yass! So excited for you! Joseph Pilates was a boxer so a lot of his work was support boxers. I know not the same as Muay Thai but there are definitely exercises that will support what you love. Glad you're doing Pilates regularly!

Where did you get your pilates certification???
Hey Melissa, I actually did 3 full comprehensive trainings. My first one was good but didn't really help me understand as much as I needed. So I did a masters program with another program for 3 years. Then after that I found Jay Grimes studio and his teachers and still study with them to this day. But did a full 1 year long mentorship program. That journey helped me really create a mentorship program for teachers. Are you already a teacher or looking for a training? I have a book that helps you choose the right training for you.
Hi Lesley, I'm a certified fitness instructor looking to ad a Pilates certification. I was if there are any good virtual programs, I'm in Canada in a city where there isn't much in terms of Pilates .
@@jo-anneguindon9094 virtual programs do exist! Although an equipment one would be hard if you don't have the equipment. However, Equinox has a great virtual Mat Pilates program. Plus they do a hybrid for their comprehensive. So if you're near Toronto to go in from time to time. The Pilates Center Boulder also has a virtual option. xx~LL
@@OnlinePilatesClasses yes pls can you send me where did you get your certification? 🤍🤍

I’m someone who only ever lifts and does cardio. Pilates seemed almost impossible until seeing this video. I do not have much (or any 😬) flexibility, but it’s good to know I just have to get started and try- that I can do. So thank you for making it approachable. Excited to add it into my fitness routine ❤
Ohhh I love that you found this video! Pilates is challenging but over time with consistency you will find it more possible and still challenging. We have a fun free 4 week program you can do opc.me/challenge Each week the classes get longer. Of course you can either stop when you need to or replace exercises you can't do yet with ones that you can :) You are going to love how Pilates benefits your weights and cardio xx~LL
Hello, I’m a senior recovering from knee hip injury and am currently in physical therapy. However on the days I’m home I wanted to do my exercises which are on the floor and I was wondering, which is the best mat so that I don’t create more problems. Any feedback would be appreciated.
great question! If you're not wanting to invest a ton of money then you want a 8-10mm Mat. Please be mindful of the floor you put that mat on. Sometimes they are slippery. If you know Mat Pilates is part of your life forever then the Contrology Mat is the one I love. I have a discount link. Opc.me/perks if you don't see the discount applied then just get me your email and I'll connect you with somoene who can help. xx~LL
Hi. This piece of equipment looks interesting. I have an anterior tilt on the right hip, and thought the swan on the barrel or similar exercises might help support the right hip muscles balancing out so the tilt goes away?
great question! Pilates in general can be helpful. This piece can work. But, you might need a combo of chiropractor who is unwravelling you while also doing the arm and leg series on the barrel. We have a discount for this piece if you want it check it out on opc.me/perks or reach out to me if you can't find it and I can connect you with the right person. xx~LL

Thank u for all your amazing videos and knowledge that u share! I've been struggling with the swan dive and rocking for years. just kind of got the hang of them recently, thanks to your spine corrector workout video. It's pretty challenging with the non classical one.
yay! Happy to hear the videos have helped you! These exercises can take time. What kind of Spine Corrector are you using?
Your dog is the absolute twin of my boy Jesse who also comes to all of my Pilates Classes in my studio x he is a Rhodesian Ridgeback with a little pit bull I think. Literal twins x so gorgeous xxx ( brown dog )
ohhh I'd love to see a pic! Yeah, August is hilarious! And we've tried to figure out what he is. He has the Ridgback on this back. But he also seems to be a bit bull terrier both in personality and body (which can be a little pitty like). We think he's a cutie! So we know Jesse must be too! Thanks for watching xx~LL
@@OnlinePilatesClasses They are literally identical so yes Ridgeback and Pittie x both such cool breeds and the "perfect dog mix". though pretty stubborn at times :D
@@DebbieHollandNZ oh yes, I've got 2 other pitties theyre the bestest!! August has that funny stubborness I've never seen before so much be his perfect dog mix haaha xx~LL
@@OnlinePilatesClasses Ridgebacks are known for their stubbornness and independent thinking x They are bred to harass lions and are hunters so they don't like to be told what to do - they like to decide for themselves. But if they understand what you want they will do it naturally. They don't need to be trained as they are very intelligent dogs also very sensitive and need a loving gentle owner. And usually a ONE person dog xxx The best breed ever though pit bulls are a close 2nd IMHO
hahah love it! xx~LL
Lovely to have you ladies together again!❤

I've been taking beginning Pilates classes for 3 months from 2 different instructors (3 students max per class (reformer). This is the first I've heard about lateral breathing. I've been doing diaph. breathing while going through my movements. I was told to inhale through the nose (relaxation) and exhale through the mouth (on exertion) during each movement. I can't breathe fully through my nose so I'm inhaling and exhaling through my mouth (pushing my abdomen in and out) through my movements, while simultaneously trying to keep my core zipped up from pubis to top of rib cage. This has always felt wrong and difficult to me. Now I know why. I'm 75 and have a severe diastasis recti due to two surgeries where I was incised from just below the center of the rib cage to the top of my pubis. I had received no discharge instructions to prevent the separation. I've been through 2.5 years of PT, and now am trying Pilates to correct the severe diastastis. Now I'm learning I'm not even breathing correctly. I'm assessing your videos to determine if I want to try your program BTW, you talk very rapidly, which makes it harder to follow), but my daughter has warned me that I need an instructor to be viewing me directly. I am getting stronger with my current Pilates classes, but the DR has only gotten worse.
Hey there, first thank you for sharing everything it. Its very helpful for me to give you some feedback. Also, I'm so sorry to hear how you got DR that is so frustrating! Re the breath: I don't know why your teacher is suggesting that breath plus all the other abdominal corrections. In life please try to breath in and out through your nose. I know you said that is difficult but mouth breathing soley does have some negative medical results. Please read Breath by James Nestor. Its going to be so fascinating for you! Most teachers are not told how clients should breath. In life I want you to belly breathe! However, for your situation I do think you need in person like you're doing but with a teacher who understands DR. Most teachers are NOT taught how to support a DR just some things to avoid. I know this DR is not due to preganancy. But, you can find experts in DR in the Post Natal Pilates focused instructors. When you have your DR feeling like you're controlling it better than of course we'd love to have you at OPC. There is myself and 6 other teachers. Most who talk much slower than me :) xx~LL
Thank you for this. I was looking to get back into pilates for core strength (in the past when I was doing a couple sessions a week religiously it was the only time I could do a triple pirouette without falling out of it so it really works!) and I didnt realize most online classes did not do classical pilates anymore - I started classes only to find out half way though they started doing yoga or other things in the middle which is NOT what I was looking for. Anyway thank you for this! Just what I needed and was searching for. I guess from now on I have to look for classical pilates. Its the WAY

Heya! Was wondering how come the breath is not mentioned? (I.e. when to inhale, exhale, mouth, nose, etc...)
there's actually only a couple exercises on the Mat where there is specific breath directions. So as long as you're not holding your breath while you're moving you're doing a great job! xx~LL
The cards would be better without the intro. I don’t need to listen to the intro every time I need to review a video. Voice overs would have also been nice while you just breathe and perform the exercise.
Thanks for your feedback! Most of our videos to have a chapter break that can bring you to where I start discussing the exercise. As for a voice over when I'm just doing the exercise, I intentionally try to give a rep or two of an exercise without my voice so that you can create your own understanding. My teacher always encouraged us to look at the body to see what connections it needs or to understand the exercises better. So, while I could continue to talk. I really do believe there is a benefit to you finding your own words. xx~LL

Thank you so much for pointing out that more advanced is more advanced and it doesn’t mean you need heavier springs to be more advanced! I see this so much with people feeling like they need to put more springs on to make themselves think they’re stronger. Then I see them putting the exercise in all the places that aren’t benefiting them. I want the whole world to watch this!
yeah unfortunately they are confusing weight training with Pilates. I love weight training. And going up in weight is one part of getting stronger (there are other ways too). In Pilates the Mat is the hardest. Because you have to do it all yourself. I'm so happy you like it and I do hope more people watch it. xx~LL
I love this video! I was really hoping to be able to watch this live and missed out. I’m so curious about the pedipole I can’t wait to get my hands on one! But thank you for pointing out all the other areas where we can find some more exercises. I love the way you nerd out and teach us, how to find a similar goal somewhere else in the room.
oh we definitely have to get you on one someday! Its amazing! In the mean time nerd out on your standing arm springs! Even single leg :) xx~LL
I LOVE the single arm option and that lateral flex stretch looks SO YUMMY!!!! I cannot wait to try :)
its so lovely! And even better if you don't hang out int he flexibility! xx~LL
Why is it so important to keep the elbows straightening the whole time?
great question! I'll go live on this soon. However, super quick answer if your elbows bend you're losing the longest round shape and/or your legs are coming closer to you which means you lost yoru connections xx~LL
What exercises should I do to help me with Reverse Monkey on the tower? I personally struggle with this one.
Good news most people do! lol! I'll go live on this to go in more detailed soon. Sundays 9am PT we've put this in the line up xx~LL
This is the best online pilates class I have seen. I have long been looking for one like that. Logical, incremental, well explained and not an overkill. Pilates fixed my lower back pain, and is the only form of exercise my body will tolerate with the muscles pain form of long Covid that I have. thank you, Lesley

@@user-pw4nm9zq5g yay let me know how you like it!
I love how you use the C-shaper as a tactile cue for both the spine and shoulders. So helpful!
oh yes! Its the best! It helps our bodies teach themselves xx~LL
The real problem for me is that I'm a Pilates teacher since 2021, I use to train weights too and I think my abs are quite fit. But really I struggle a lot and my legs always lift in rolling up. I'm starting to think that is my body "shape", I mean maybe the shape of my spine (lumbar curvature quite deep) or my glutes or hip flexors. What do you think? Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing! And, congrats on your teaching journey! Couple things, 1) I know you feel as a teacher you should be able to do it by now. But, honestly, the Roll Up takes time. I think too many people put pressure on themselves to "get it" since its considered a "beginner" exercise. Its really hard! 2) Your abs are strong, but your hip flexors sound tight which means lower back probably is too. However, the Roll Up requires a ton of hamstrings, inner thighs and glutes so your hip flexors don't lift your legs up. Have you seen my elbow slip exercise? Also how are your single leg kicks on the Mat? And, if you're using a mat with a strap that is really helpful. SO many people think the strap is for beginners but its for all levels because it helps you pull the energy back into your center. If you're an OPC member I can look at you do your ROll Up and give you even more detailed support. xx~LL
I do strength training with Pilates. Pilates helps with form.
