Tadashi the Shiba

Tadashi the Shiba

Hi, welcome to life with Tadashi the Shiba! Thanks so much for stopping by.

Tadashi is 4 years old. He loves long smelly walks, napping all day at home, playing with squeaky toys and munching on super meaty treats.

We are here to share our lives with you and to hopefully help you decide whether Shiba Inus are the right dog for you -- all while being fun and entertaining along the way.

Have a great day!

    I have had a shiba inu for 6 years now (he is 9) and i find it important that folks know these cons (and some tips): 1) they are very stubborn so be prepared to put your foot down multiple times a day for many many years. It can be very DRAINING but it is important once youve commited to having a shiba that you put your foot down for the rest of their lives or they'll walk over you and be very annoying due to their intelligence. 2) Train your dog like it's your second job and be CONSISTENT. If the shiba gets any room to 'not listen to you' they disrespect you immediatly. They respect you if you keep showing them that you have more energy and patience than theyll ever have. They will also trust you more due to you being consistent. They will also feel more relaxed. You have to act like a boss 24/7. I see so many people babying their dog or giving them a command and when the dog doesn't do it after two times they're like ''oh well''. Don't ''oh well''. In fact: if you ''oh well'' once the shiba will remember and will try to be the boss and be very VERY annoying. And they will be 'okay' listening after a year of day in and day out training after saying ''oh well' once. In fact; I'm a real pet person, but shibas can be so stubborn and annoying that I have secretly plotted every 2 years to sell him. I am completely in love with my shiba and he's a very good boy doing his best, but that's just a very honest thing i wanted to share because I see sooooo many people only looking at how 'cute' a shiba is and not down playing the effort part they will have to manage. That's why a shiba is NOT A DOG FOR A BEGINNING DOG OWNER. Only if you master like say a husky, you could try a shiba. They aren't even in the same field as a golden retriever. 3) Make a clear boundry between dog food and human food. Once they learn begging and the wonders of human food, they will be annoying as hell and find very clever and distructive ways to get what they want. They will also annoy all your guests and they can pray on your kids food. Don't spoil them thinking it's otherwise sad for them. Feeding them food for people is actually cruel. It's like giving a junkie some stuff and then taking it away. Theyll be addicts for life. 4) Never let them walk off a leash. It's not only very hard to get them into it again and behave, they have a very high instinct to go after anything that moves, igoring you completely and disrespecting you by ignoring your calls. And worst: they will zigzag on car roads. My shiba has only escaped under 10 times and that's not much for a shiba since they are escape artists. And I'm glad I always had luck with traffic on roads and cows in fields who can make shiba pudding. 5) be okay to wear dog fur in a way that their hair can be and therefor will be EVERYWHERE. Including your eyeball, any urns in your house, on all of your meals and even on everything you love and don't love. Shibas are hairy. 6) They hate your touch on their paws, tail, ears and snout. It is very important to teach them that you are the boss and if you wish to touch them, it will happen, despite their efforts. NEVER back down from a growl or anything, opr they'll learn that they can intimidate you and use that knowledge throughout all their inteacrtions with you. I can grab my shibas paws and snout everytime i feel like it, even when he sleeps (I respect his sleep, it is just in a manner of speaking) and their aint nothing he can do about it and he knows that. Therefor he never gets mad and trusts me completely with his paws and he feels so much more safe with me because of that. A dog entrusting their paws to you is so important. And if you gets wounded anywhere or i have to check for tics, he is a delight to inspect. 7) don't let your dog lick any orfaces (mouth, nose, ears, eyes). They are dogs and so they can handle a whole different zoo of microbes and virusses than a human can. You can get an std from your dog. Don't do it. 8) If you are a man and feel a certain way about your male dogs ball. Don't get a male dog. Because some really have it heavy with all those hormones. My dog had really didn't enjoy his levels and we have tried many things. But since he's nutered he feels relaxed, still has his energy and makes lots of friends. He is so much more happy and this wound't be the case if he was just in a household with men who project all their feelings on the dog. (sigh) This all sounds pretty heavy, but remeber i wanted to honestly list all the cons i know, because the shiba gets too popular on social media and owners with not enough experience and bossyness is a disservice to this wonderful breed.

    Let’s be fair. Their behavior isn’t that misunderstood by other owners. They are not that good at socializing with other dogs and other dog owners can easily see this. That part is not a misunderstanding. If we all ignored this behavior, there’d be a lot of problems. It’s always best to error on the side of caution than not when coming across other unknown dogs. Shebas are stubborn and have a lot of dislikes and that’s ok. But lots of other dogs and owners dislike aggressive behavior given to them when doing nothing wrong. This is good because it helps to keep everyone safe. Shebas are not the only ones like this but this is a big part of their typical temperament with other pets. Socializing does not mean it’s important to do so with other dogs only. Socializing means with all environments, types of people, things and places. The more you do this early for them and keep it up, the better they can be at all socializing. They will never be perfect with other pets, but there’s a lot we can do with their daily requirements to help them do their best…exercise, mental stimulation, training, socializing, eating healthy, vet check ups, quality time with owners, jobs and/or sports they and their owners enjoy, grooming time, comfortable and safe living environments, and having owners who want to and choose to be knowledgeable, and keep them protected, happy, healthy and safe. ❤

    I have a mix shibainu and shikoku ken (a rescue who was about to get decapitated) and she is the most adorable yet untrainable dog in the world. She is traumatized so much that even after 2 years together she doesn't get out of her crate more than 30 minutes a day, and goes to walk twice a day for 20 minutes top and only very early or late at night when there is nobody on the street. If she sees another person than me or my wife she will start panicking and try to run away and will get the runs out of anxiety and fear. But at home she is like a teddy bear and for the 20 minutes daily she comes out of her crate she runs around, licks out face and hands and then back to her crate for 22 hours. She is amazingly beautiful super easy to keep as an indoor dog (because she hates being outside) but she is not house trained or house trainable but she won't go out during the day so she unfortunately has to hold her poop and pee all day even though we try to get her out during the day but she will just start trembling and having the runs and begging us to get her back in. We called two dog trainers and they both said she is too traumatized yet to be trained and it would only damage her more. She was repeatedly beaten for a long period of time after being taken away from her stray mother (which no doubt was k...d), and she was kept outside and mistreated to be finally k....d but she was then caught by animal services (in Japan) and placed in the so called animal shelters which are nothing more than abattoirs in Japan for unwanted dogs and cats. Then she was rescued by a wonderful animal association in Kyushu and then moved to another wonderful foster house where a wonderful woman who is also the owner of a dog salon for grooming kept her along with 20 other dogs and cats she rescued (she rescues over 150 a year and is the closest thing i know to an angel). And she put her up for adoption online and my wife (the second closest thing to an angel because she can't beat 150 rescued animals a year yet, nor do I) and I , adopted her about 2,5 years ago as our second rescued dog (the other one is a cute little mixed breed something, and we also have two rescue cats). Our 4 animals are amazing but this one is really special, she is pure kindness and doesn't have one evil bone in her body. I mean the others either, but they have their tantrum and crazy personalities (although none of them were mistreated that we know of) . And we just got a quake as i wrote this (mag 4 so no big deal) but the house shook enough to throw the dog in a panic. Anyway, time to sleep. It is 1am and i have to wake up at 5 on a sunday to walk her out before people start waking up.

    back home, my sister has a Shiba, when i came back to visit I walked her everyday, everytime she heard my steps from the stairs she knew it was walking time and she got really excited - lovely beautiful dog and we developed a really good bond - my family said she was really sad when she realised that i was gone. Cant wait to come back to see her again 😁

    @keyblox92510 күн бұрын

    Definitely not they are extremely loyal and they will love you very much but when it comes to guarding no they are not a great guard dog. They will protect you but they’re not meant for guarding. It’s one of those dogs if something happens they will 100% protect you but you shouldn’t have them as a guard dog.

    I have a 21 months old female shiba inu and she is a velcro dog... I work a 8 hour shift everyday and as soon as I get home she wants to spend every second with me. She evens sleeps cuddling with me. She is not a destructive dog when left alone anymore, but i can see that she would rather have some company all day long.

    Shibas are not “aggressive”. They are standoffish and like their space, and if a dog messes with them too much when they don’t like it they will snarl a bit and just be “moody” as a dog. But that’s not “aggression”. And socializing them is very easy actually but it’s easier to do when they are younger

    We have an almost 2 yr old Shiba(Buddha) he is super hyper, stubborn and gets into EVERYTHING! He screams everytime he is alone or when I go outside, He is high maintenance. And has separation anxiety. He just barks at every little thing. I wish I did more research on the breed before getting one. We love him but he can be very annoying at times. And about the potty training. No matter how many times a day he gets walked and goes outside on his own in the fenced yard he feels the need to pee on the wood framing! No amount of training has worked, he has cost so much money. Definitely do your research on this breed!
