  Playable on PC through a PS2 emulator and while I haven't played any difficulty mods there's the Redux and hard mode mods that I'm aware of

  7:19 King of Yamimakai has yet to see any sort of retrain. Although given how Konami is going through a sort of retrain craze as of late, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets one in the near future. As for whether or not it was any good, the fact that it came out in the same set as Summoned Skull, which also came guaranteed in any Starter Deck Yugi, essentially doomed it to be stuck in Summoned Skull's shadow indefinitely. Starter Deck Kaiba also gave us Judge Man, and Metal Raiders also gave us Flame Cerberus, both of whom were stronger while still only requiring one tribute. Metal Raiders even gave us monsters that were just as strong, if not stronger than King of Yamimakai without requiring a tribute in Dark Elf and Jirai Gumo, if you didn't mind their drawbacks. While King is far from the worst card in the set, it was unfortunately outclassed from the word go, and that only got worse as time went on.

  That makes a lot of sense as to why it wasn't popular, and I imagine that Summoned Skull, Dark Elf, Judge Man, Jirai Gumo and later stuff like Mr Volcano and Empress Mantis (I don't know why they were the first ones that came to mind) being searchable with Witch of the Black Forest's effect before the first banlist came in also didn't help it. I always thought it looked cool, same with Dark Chimera and Barox so retrains would be quite nice to see to turn some of those old useless fiend cards into something

  Short answer - No real reason, it serves no tactical purpose with most monsters Long answer - If I understand it correctly they gain a little bit of exp towards a promotion for every turn they stay face up on the field and after one promotion they can be made the deck leader, in this case freeing Kryuel to be added to the deck as a normal card once something else gets promoted. Although it takes a ridiculous amount of exp before you'd start to get any of the leader abilities to the point where while you'll get some promotions to be able to change your deck leader during the course of the game unless you go out of your way to grind super hard for it you'll finish the game long before you ever get any of the deck leader abilities like the ones that Bonz or the later opponents will have.

  @@branchplays Just started playing this myself, which is why I think your vid got suggested. Running a zombie deck myself after getting the dark deck leader starter deck, and having 5 pumpkings up every game for many rounds ranks him up insanely fast

  I think the general strategy for speedrunning rank ups is to use a custom duel field where the opponent is boxed in by labyrinth tiles and only has one free crush space to work on and you're completely safe to summon 5 copies of whatever you're levelling up. The Patrician of Darkness starter deck is definitely one of the best and zombies are pretty good in Duelists of the Roses just in general, partially due to Pumpking's effect being ridiculous when you have more than one out. I hope you're enjoying the game so far

  @@branchplays you are correct. Though just having 4 on the field and my deck leader all the time whilst playing through the story got him ranked up pretty quickly. Has some good leader effects too thankfully. I am enjoying, thank you for your playthrough too. It’s very entertaining. Keep up the good work

  Minor correction on the rivals in this game In this game, Michelle’s sub-boss is Kunimistu and Yoshimitsu’s sub-boss is Ganyu. The story reasons for this is because in this game, Kunimistu is trying to steal Michelle’s pendant, which is said to hold the key to finding a legendary treasure. And Yoshimitsu is out to steal Ganryu’s fortune and provide the wealth to the poor villagers (one of which happens to be Law, which I thought was interesting to note) But yeah, in the 2nd game they actually trade sub-bosses hehe
