  • @travelsandroadtrips
    @travelsandroadtrips11 күн бұрын

    Hi! Except for the chilli clam soup, the other dishes are not spicy. Some dishes like the grilled fish and squid ink rice come with sambal served on the side. The sambal is medium spicy. But since it’s served on the side, it won’t affect the food. And yes, the food is unique and in our opinion, very delicious. Hope this helps and do let us know if you have any other questions. How do you get around JB? By car? Is it safe to drive around?

  • @travelsandroadtrips
    @travelsandroadtrips15 күн бұрын

    Hi! Yes we get around JB by car. Concerning safety, fact is, while it’s not an everyday or even a common occurrence to the best of our knowledge, there have been isolated cases of car thefts, car break-ins and mugging in JB which were reported in the media in the past 12 months. Hence, we do exercise the usual due diligence such as not parking in deserted areas, not leaving valuables or handbags, laptop bags, etc visible in the car. And we always kept the car doors locked and windows up while driving and when the car is parked, even while we are tanking up at petrol stations. While driving on the roads itself, we find that the biggest hazards would be avoiding motorbikes that suddenly cut into our lane when they are in a hurry or when they are speeding. Also do look out for potholes and humps where paint markings have worn off at roads when you are driving through older sections of the town to minimise sudden bumps under your car. In addition, do keep to the speed limit and slow down when driving on the smaller roads which tend to be narrow and have lots of bends and sometimes bumps and potholes as well. This applies especially after night falls. Not every road in JB has street lamps. Some roads can be pitch dark so when you are driving at night, do drive with lots of care. Other than the above and heavy traffic in central areas at certain peak hours such as Austin Heights, Taman Sentosa etc, we find driving in JB and Malaysia on the whole to be very enjoyable and most of the Malaysian drivers whom we have encountered in JB are polite and patient. Oh a couple more things, before you drive to Malaysia, do make sure that your car insurance provides you with sufficient coverage for driving in Malaysia. This one is not related to safety but maybe useful in case you decide to drive in JB: For public parking in JB, it’s divided into 2 zones: MBJB and MBIP. When you park at the public carpark, the signage will indicate whether is it a MBJB or MBIP parking lot. MBJB covers areas like Taman Sentosa, Taman Pelangi, Austin, etc while MBIP covers areas like Sutera, Gelang Patah, Bukit Indah etc. You can download the app to pay for parking at both MBIP and MBJB areas via app once you turn on your phone’s location service. We were told that this app can be used for parking as far as Malacca and KL. For both areas, never park on lots with yellow markings as those are for season parking. Hope the above helps. Do let us know if you have any questions. Have a blessed day! 😊

    @@travelsandroadtrips is pontian the only place you guys visited, or nearby? What do u suggest for a trip like this? Minimum 3 days?

  • @travelsandroadtrips
    @travelsandroadtripsАй бұрын

    Besides Pontian, we also visited JB so the video was shot over a couple of days. However a trip like this can easily be done in a day as a day trip from Singapore, provided you could start earlier in the morning. This is our suggested itinerary for a day trip. Feel free to modify to your own preferences. You could also consider combining this with an overnight staycation in JB as these places are very close to JB. 9.30am: Reach Uncle Tan Stingless Bee Farm. He provides a 90 mins guided tour. 11.30am: Go for lunch. If you like wanton noodles, you may like to consider 豪云吞面which is about 8 mins away from Uncle Tan’s farm or Kedai Mee Sin Kee which is about 15 mins away. 12.30pm: Leave for Nictar Pineapple Farm which is about 30 mins away. If you have a bigger group, they can provide guided tour. Otherwise it is self-guided walk for RM10 which includes a bottle of pineapple juice. 1.45pm: Leave for Platform Coffee which is about 12 mins away. 3.00pm: After coffee break, leave for Tanjong Piai National Park which is about 35 mins drive away. 3.30pm: Reach Tanjong Piai. About 1 hour shd be more than enough to explore the National Park. 4.30pm: Leave for Air Masin and Kukup Laut(about 15 mins drive) 4.45pm::Reach Air Masin/Kukup Laut. These are the 2 villages in Kukup area where you could spend some time exploring. The other time, we managed to catch the sunset at 6.30pm, but timing varies depending on the time of the year. After exploring the villages, round off the day with dinner at Woh Bee Floating Canteen which is located at Air Masin Village. Also we suggest that you call Uncle Tan in advance to let him know you are coming over so he knows when to expect your arrival. Hope these help. Happy travels! 😊

    Hello! Thanks for your Hakone trip vlog, we are Singapore Couple planning our itinerary to Hakone too, can you share with us about the car rental? Thanks 😊

  • @travelsandroadtrips
    @travelsandroadtripsАй бұрын

    Hi! We rented the car from ToCoo Car Rental. Found their rates to be reasonable and their customer service via email is very responsive. We made advance booking via their website and selected our car, choose our pick-up and drop off locations. Car rental cost will depend on the car model and duration of rental. This is their website: www2.tocoo.jp/en We picked up the rental car upon arrival in Hakone from the Odawara train station. We had the car for the remaining 8 days of our trip and dropped it off at their office near Narita Airport before we return back to Singapore. The following documents are required for car rental in Japan: Driver's passport, original driver's license, and International Driving Permit which you can apply from Automobile Association of Singapore (cost: SGD20 valid for 1 year). And also, for your own peace of mind, we recommend that you get full insurance cover from ToCoo Car Rental. When you pick up your car, the staff at the car rental company will ask if you wish to include renting their ETC card(Electronic Toll Collection). It works like our ERP card or Malaysia's Touch n Go card for paying toll charges along the highway. If you intend to drive out of Hakone, we highly recommend that you get this ETC card from the rental company. When you return the car, the rental company will bill you accordingly based on the tolls that were charged to the ETC card. With this ETC card, you can just drive through the ETC lanes at the toll stations. One thing to note about the drop-off near Narita Airport: their office is about 20 minutes drive away from the airport so they provide free shuttle service to the airport for their customers. It is very convenient actually but do allow enough buffer time so you won't miss your flight and you have some time to relax at the airport before your flight back. Coz sometimes the shuttle service may be late due to traffic and also the shuttle also send their customers from Narita airport to their office near Narita to pick up the car. Hope the above helps. Feel free to let us know if you have any other question. Have a safe and happy trip to Japan! Cheers!

    There are very few kampung chicken in Malaysia, it’s never so big. The meat of real kampung chicken is quite tough and usually quite skinny. You will hardly find real kampung served in restaurants. At best you get is farm chicken of kampung chicken breed. Real cage free kampung chicken is never soft or tender.

  • @travelsandroadtrips
    @travelsandroadtrips2 ай бұрын

    Hi! That’s an interesting point you have made. The restaurant did state in their menu that the chickens they serve are kampung chickens and we take it in good faith they are. And the texture of the chicken meat was indeed different from the usual chickens. Perhaps the long marinating process could have helped to render the chicken tender. Thank you for sharing the information on kampung chicken. Appreciate it. Have a good evening!😊

However, if you prefer a more leisurely pace, and you want to shop at Johor Premium Outlet(JPO), which is also in Kulai, we would suggest that you take a 2-day-1-night trip instead. You can either spend a night in Kulai town itself(there're hotel accommodations in Kulai but we have not stayed there ourselves), or like us, we choose to overnight in Johor Bahru as JB is only about 30 to 40 minutes drive away from Kulai. If you like to look up our hotel suggestions for Johor Bahru, do check out the video which we did on Johor Bahru hotels here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/haR9u7ppeLjYpJM.htmlsi=6LireL2iz2QGXnjq Happy exploring, guys! Cheers!😊

    Hi! Yeah…perhaps it’s because they don’t operate daily and don’t have economy of scale of full-fledged restaurants. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Have a great day! 😊
