Great job, Mick! My first 50k in 1998 was a rain/mud fest and will always be in my memory. Would love to do maybe the 60k at Never Summer, thanks for sharing your experience.
I've been watching your videos for a couple years, and this one really touched me. I've had long covid for 2 years and as you were sharing about the turnaround, I thought, maybe I can get out there again. So inspiring. You did Juno proud :)
Strong work! Finished the race as well, albeit several hours behind you. What a circus, but a damn-fun one indeed. Fun to cut my teeth on my first 100K with that bad boy. Congrats again from a Conifer guy.
Woof, I can't imagine the trail conditions for you with all that mud + all the runners in front who destroyed it. Congrats on your finish!
@@TheVirtualSherpa certainly made for a rodeo of an experience. Oh well, what doesn't kill you...
I am looking at doing Castle Peak here real soon. I have climbed 34 14ers stopping in 2001 after starting in 1995. Recently started thinking about doing at least 3 more for 37. Got inspired when my granddaughter started climbing in Colorado. I have watched several of your videos before and appreciate your descriptions of your climbs and photography. I will be getting myself in shape and acclimated to make my ascents. Need to get some altitude for my attitude which always makes me appreciate my mountains. Thanks for this great video.
I had forgotten about Castle Peak until I was looking through your climbs. I have decided to add that to one of my climbs to give me 37 beyond that I do not know if I will climb anymore 14ers, maybe some 13ers. The last time I climbed was 2001 started in 1995 and stopped at 34. I am older and have an urge to climb a couple more, so conditioning is on my agenda.
modern music is so irritating my ears hurt
Congrats! Very real very real!!
It was nice running with you for a bit, but F that rain!
Ditto and ditto!!!
I was working the radio communications at Bockman for the third year in a row. You would have run past me when giving your bib number. Congratulations on finishing! de N0MTN
Dude yes. +1 on listening to the race start from the porta potty - at Leadville Silver Rush for me. Trudging up Dutch Henry alone just hits different 👨🏻🍳🤌 Congrats on the brutal & beautiful day! That PB mud looks like a special hell 😂
Think I am now at like 50/50 with races starting in the BR. But I would much rather start in the BR then have to go 1 mile in. Luckily no congas to battle in this one. The PB mud was.......something........
huge congrats on finishing!
Next year do the double, both 60k and 100k.
Sounds like a whole lot of nope for me right now. Very impressed at the women and men who did it this year.
This is awesome!
Congrats!!!!!
Congrats. Thanks for the video.
Congrats on an epic trail race.
That storm was legit! It was great running into you briefly out there. Congrats and great job getting it done… especially in those conditions. I was in and out of Canadian with the quickness. No way I was going to stop moving at that point, would have meant sheer disaster.
Hell yeah man, you as well and great finish! That storm was the worst I have had out while hiking/running in a long, long time. I guess I was due for a bad weather day but could have used a LITTLE less intensity. Oh well, what doesn't kill you....
Anyone who brings dogs on hikes like this should check their paws as they can wear down and bleed = pain and rescue.
Congratulations.
Congratulations on the feat, I’m sure it was rough without help. Can’t imagine that trench foot haha!
Different challenge for sure but the feet are actually great!
Congrats! What's your fueling strategy through something like this?
Great q: it’s basically give or take 200 calories an hour + salt tabs mixed in depending on the day. I’m not that specific where I’m measuring grams of carbs (maybe I should be) but usually it’s a mix of tailwind, waffles/gels and then whatever is in aid stations. I fueled poorly during the rain which def bit me in the ass a bit towards the end.
I love this man, you're awesome! I so appreciate the willingness to show us the realness of the trails. That's the info I need. Appreciate you!

When does the 4wd trailhead close/be inaccessible by vehicle?
Changes every year - usually mid November / early December is a safe bet but it entirely depends on the season.
@@TheVirtualSherpa makes sense, thanks!
Used to be a hidden gem. Now its overcrowded with Coloradans coming north who can't find a place to hike in the 14.5 million acres of National Forest that Colorado has to offer.
Nah you are right, public lands are actually owned by the state they exist in.
We're going in August and have reservations how long did the hike take from Parking lot to falls? And it was a total of 8 miles?
Awesome video. I’m heading out in 2 days. Gonna do north fork to iceberg, camp, climb the east buttress (which is 5.7) then come down the mountaineers route. May camp again or head back to the car depending on how dead we feel. Thanks for sharing! I’ve watched a few of your other CO 14er vids for research. Excellent work 🤙
How long to get up?
as a skier, just being up in this area sounds interesting
would this be a horrible idea for a 1st 14'er? Elevation is not my concern, I ski hard between 13-11k with no problems I hiked a steep 3.3 mile round trip the other day with about 1,400 elevation gain, which honestly felt like a pretty easy and short journey to reach the top, so doubling or tripling that elevation gain to get up a 14'er doesn't scare me. But I have almost no rock climbing experience and have zero business accidentally wandering into anything class 4+
Very well done dudeeeee!!!!
I have this peak on my agenda in mid September 2024
Beautiful area! I'd love to drive up (from Colorado) and trail run more of the Medicine Bow area.
@@SeeChadRun Wyoming residents don't want a bunch of non-residents spoiling the pristine beauty of this area. Run on a designated track not in nature where nature still has a chance.
@@user-yu5ct7ui5w Of course! Stick to the designated trails.
Dude let your dog go! Imagine that you had an owner and they kept you on a chain all day, cruel.
Thanks for the video. We are headed to Mammoth soon and seeing what you are wearing and how beautiful it is there helped.
Beautiful. Ill be hiking this on Sunday!
Hoping to get up to Med Bow without all this smoke that’s currently in the area. Appreciate the beta as always
Hahahaha that was funny when you fall. Did you hurt your bun bun
Thanks for sharing! Enjoy listening to you.
My now passed English Bulldog Apollo also mastered the art of the drive by snow snack.😢🐶❤️
Stay out of wyoming commiefornians. FJB
CO has the most unstable snowpack and always leads the U.S. in total avalanche deaths by far and unfortunately, the slope angles that are the best and most fun for skiing and the exact same slope angles that are the worst for avalanche risk. (30-45 degrees)
Do you ever carry chalk? I''ve started binge watching 14'er videos and heard people talk about class 4 and even "class 5" moves, but never heard it mentioned
Im proud of you too dude! Thanks for the vid
I live in Laramie and I love watching your 14er guides. This peak has some of the best June snowboarding/skiing you can imagine. Until mid-late June you can skin across some pretty easy terrain which can cut the route down significantly. It's less than a mile from the highway to the base of medicine bow between sugar loaf. Then you can skin/boot-pack up or do one of the many steep couloirs. Such a great location for summer activities.
I was eyeing the snow lines when we were there, I can't imagine how awesome it would be to lap them.
what is the difficulty of downclimb vs the up, for the trickier sections?
Please keep it a secret. Stop telling g everyone about it. It will get spoiled!
Knige egde in the snow ! How did you not falll with those balls of Steel ?!
Oh dang. I'm from Laramie. Med bow is great. I wouldnt call it a hidden gem though as it's pretty well known.
