ugh i love markus so much and really the only thing i could think about while watching his story was "he NEEDS more time". he would work SOOOO much more better if he was given a longer arc. and i also hate how the game punishes you if youre not 100% peaceful. do they even know how revolutions work...

I hated how ever march had androids completely alone and zero people speaking up for the androids in the news segments. Humans (especially American humans) would be out on the streets FIGHTING for our androids! We love our CARS and literally have record of crimes happening in the name of get"revenge" for a vehicle that got scratched and men trying to HUMMP their cars & think of as their GF. I wanted WAY more people involved on their behalf & in the matches & fights and not just Rose. I didn't care for the plot twist of Alice being an android. There are a billion other ways that story could've played out and still be better than the "she was an android all along" arc.

Not even three minutes in and I can tell that you ignored…. a lot. Androids are specifically barred from doing what Kara did : respond to abuse. They are not supposed to recognize abuse because they are not supposed to have opinions or feelings. When Kara disobeys Todd, as a “lower class” she is wrong. It doesn’t matter what Todd did in anyone’s eyes. All he has to say is that Kara is lying - or Kara has to reveal that she disobeyed orders ( something she should not be able to do ) and literally no one will take her side in the story. That’s why if you listen to the commands - Kara’s story can end right there in Chapter One. Going to the police isn’t an option. It also stands to note that there is no way Kara would know anything about the mother that’s substantial. She was just brought back home. What Conner has access to is specifically because he is a police android. This is not a thing all androids can do. And Kara always knew Alice was an android. This was confirmed during her playthrough when she encounters Luther. This was not something she wasn’t aware of. I do actually agree that she’s a player model and that’s why she lacks personality. But all of that within the first three minutes was either flat out wrong or woefully unaware of the surrounding lore. Kara

Personally, at first i thought the deviants were right, but after thinking about it, you're essentially giving life and accomidations to machines that only think they're human. Kamski could have easily made the androids less succeptible to breaking their programming, because why would the android's trackers turn off the moment they turn deviant? A little convinient don't you think?

Ngl i kinda agree and disagree with your claim and complaint on Alice and Kara in the first bit. Although what gets me is I feel like the story was overall fine. I felt the need to take care of her, no second thoughts, even as a player. Which is exactly why you’re right when Kara serves an avatar, but Eitherway, I think the whole situation is Alice is kind of like a reverse android, if you would call it that. She expects Kara to take care of her. And do everything for her. And I don’t think that’s Alice just being a bad character, it could be signs of actual trauma… Or, just plot line. But Eitherway when Alice really kicks in as a character is when Kara messes up. For example when Kara is grabbed through the window in Zlatko’s house by Luther, if she fails the QTE, Alice grabs a window shard and stabs Luther. So yeah. Also speaking of foreshadowing, ever notice that Androids start to deactivate their skin in places they’re hit at? Notice how Alice always covers that part of her body when she’s hit. Now obviously that could just be taken as a form of reacting to pain, but I think it’s to hide she’s an android.

About Kara realizing Alice is an android; it doesn't make sense why she would hate someone of her own kind, especially since they both share the same problem. I think it would be more compelling if Kara made herself believe that Alice is an android because she despises humans so much after being withTodd that she makes up this story in her head and kidnaps his actual daughter. She is still saving her from abuse, but this time there's a bigger impact on Kara's case because she took a human child and the police are actively looking for her. This would also reenforce the fact Alice has to stay with Kara to survive. Kara wants to be a mother to an android child and Alice is playing along because she's afraid Kara will hate her if she was a human. What can also happen is that maybe Alice very heavly resembles a model for child androids which can fool some humans into thinking she's an android as well (like Zlatko). The fact that Alice can feel cold and hunger can also just be seen by Kara as her child needs program and in one scene she tries to turn it off but there's an error since her program doesn't detect anything but it doesn't directly tell us why. This could porbably have a lot of holes I can't think of right now but maybe it can be worked around.

Honestly, if the player was told that Alice was an android from the beginning, then it would have actually been a pretty interesting story because then the writers could have explored how similar deviants are to actual humanity and it could have spearheaded a whole plotline of like bonding with other people because "hey, were so alike, maybe androids are alive and we shouldn't be condemning them for no reason" instead of going the whole game basically doing things that don't matter like finding shelter for like half the game since Alice is just revealed to be an android anyway, essentially removing all of the reason for Kara's storyline.

I think Karas story could be expliened that - she was programmed to take care of child . She did it because of program but as she become deviant she realizes that knows nothing more than being housekeeper and childprotector and without Alice she is nothing. So see besically used kid to not be discarded literally and not go insane because lack of porpuse. She could develop idea of she uses child or she really grow feelings for her.

when i first played i escaped via boat with alice. when i thought alice was dead i thought it was SUCH good storytelling (in a game that i genuinely think has the worst writing of anything i’ve ever played) because kara’s whole story DID feel like it was all for nothing. and in alice dying it would have left kara alone again like she was in the beginning and she would have realized the intense codependency she had formed with the idea of alice. i just think it would have been a really dark and interesting conclusion to her story. a solidifying of the emptiness that her story always portrayed but an emptiness she was always in denial of. i think alice dying is the only way the alice-being-an-android route woulda felt natural. and then of course she was alive and i rolled my eyes and was bored again

I know it isn't entirely related to the focus of the video, but my natural playthrough was very ''self centered'' and in that way I ended up with Kara, Luther and Alice escaping through the border station, and with Connor killing Markus and North on their assault of the android camp. I played both Connor and Markus violently. In the video you said these stories were unsatisfying but I liked the ending very much. I liked the realism in Connor's character, the passion in Markus and of course the eventual success and love throughout of Kara's character. I also was pleased with the ultimate victory and maintained leadership of humanity. I personally believe that one of the game's successes is that you are likely to enjoy the ending that you get because it reflects the person you are. And I'm not counting endings where you have to fail and interaction or fight scene.

While Ragnos is absolutely a Scooby Doo villain, there are reasons why he looks so weird. First, he wasn't a human to begin with, he was an alien, and second he is a totally different kind of force ghost, he is using the dark side to avoid death so a lich is actually a good comparison, he didn't become one with the force like Yoda or Obi-wan. He was in other Expanded Universe stuff too, where he was still equally stupid, but still.

Alice should've been human not android. Kara should've been more inportant to the story since she is the one who made the game possible. Kara shouldve been Ra9. Markus shouldve never been with North or have the option to. Connor was perfect honestly. I dont have much to say to it. Connor and Kara or Markus and Kara shouldve had more scenes. Kara is so not important to the story is upsetting me.

I feel like the Alice as an Android reveal isn’t that bad since it was pretty obvious from the beginning, the hints were all there. That said, the Kara being sad about Alice being an Android aspect and being in denial about it makes zero sense and it would have worked better if they touched on the consequences of Alice being an Android and how it affects Kara. As Zlatko said, Kara wants to be a mother, but Alice, despite being a child in appearance, can’t fully her give her that experience. Alice is eternally stuck in the mind and body of a child. She can’t grow or change. She’ll never be able to live a fully normal life, nor will Kara be able to give her one. Kara will never get to see her become a teenager who eventually graduates high school and then goes to college. Or see her become an adult who eventually starts a family and gives Kara “grandchildren” to help nurture. She’s just stuck in one young life state presumably forever, or at least until she shuts down, which is actually pretty sad and can give Kara a little depth. They could make Kara rather self-centered, and have her have second thoughts on whether she actually loves Alice or if she only loved what Alice meant for her in fulfilling her desire to be a mother to someone when she thought she was still a human, and it could have been up to the player to decide how she actually felt. Maybe her arc could have ended with her deciding that she loves Alice no matter what, or that it’s too late for her to turn her back on Alice now that they’ve come as far as they did, no matter how she actually feels. I wonder if that was the original direction they were planning to go with this whole reveal, but simply couldn’t find the time to actually write it into the story because all of Kara’s story is spent running away. The way it plays out now, it just feels like Kara randomly has internalized self-hatred toward androids when there’s no reason for that, although even with that, they could have made an interesting arc for Kara out of it with just a little better writing. Maybe Kara in contrast to Connor’s initially neutral stance toward humans (he cares about his mission more than anything) and Markus’ pro-Android mindset, Kara could have been pro-human and that could have been why she’s so broken up and in denial about Alice being an Android. She sees the destruction and societal disruption Markus is causing and it lowers her opinion of her fellow androids, not to mention all the weird ones she encounters over the course of her journey only further make her feel this way. Over the course of her journey, she feels protective over Alice because she represents her love for humans, but feels a bit betrayed when she realizes that Alice is actually an Android herself. Once again, the player can decide on whether this ruins her relationship with Alice, or if she, through her relationship with Alice and I guess Luther (after she learns to trust him), realizes that androids aren’t all bad and actually deserve rights or something. I dunno I’m just yapping at this point.

One big change I'd like to make: swap Kara and Markus' roles just to make the KARA tech demo actually make sense and not let her be a character that's very disconnected to the rest of the story.

  • @vailingbow1068

I completely agree with you in regards to Kara. Her story feels a little disconnected compared to Markus and Connor, but I think it did ok with showing us a message it was trying to convey. It definitely did have a lot of potential, however with this being a choice based game, it would take too much to implement what you're saying for Markus I think except for maybe going into the politics side and I do like your idea about finding Jericho too but I think it would be too much because this is a choice based game. The script is like 3K pages *EACH* MC and took like 3 years. I feel like they did well despite it's missing potential and has more pros than cons. If this weren't a choice based game I can see them being able to implement a lot of what you're saying. Or axe Kara as a playable character and focus on Markus and Connor.

while I do agree that Cara's story line is bad, I don't think it's unsalvageable. To me, the clear route to take is to emphasize the connection that Cara and Alice have between their identities as female presenting androids in this world. In the beginning while Cara still thinks that Alice is human, she can become compelled to rescue her from her abusive father by recognizing their shared position as being without any autonomy being at the mercy of the same abusive man. I don't think it's a mistake that each of their story beats are trying to escape from a "big scary man" as you put it, I wonder if the story would have more of an impact if it wasn't afraid to show how Cara and Alice's shared female identities have a heavy impact on how they navigate through their society, constantly at the whim of abusive violent men who are looking for people they perceive as beneath them to express their abusive violent tendencies. A storyline like that would need to be handled with a lot of care and nuance which isn't something I'm confident the writing team could have accomplished, but it's worth pointing out that there IS something worth exploring underneath the literal text of Cara's story.

  • @Violet-qi4yb
    @Violet-qi4yb15 күн бұрын

I understand and respect your opinion but I disagree. I never got that interpretation. It would’ve been uninteresting to me if he talked androids into becoming deviant. They never really served as a master, you can see many times in Jericho relationships between deviants. He wasn’t their master, he was their leader. He was fighting for them. Sure, you can interpret it that he was brainwashing them. But they had freewill. I don’t remember him ever forcing any deviants to stay on his side. They could leave if they wanted, but that would that would just put them in danger. At the end of the game in the best ending, he outright says they are free. They have rights, they are seen as a new life form. Is he putting any rules or constrictions over them? No. He’s not. Also who wouldn’t want freedom? Like, I doubt any android is complaining about getting freewill. It’s a lot better than obeying and being treated like garbage, now being able to fight for rights. To put it short, in the best ending of the game, they were free. Even if the way he freed them is weird to you, you can’t deny that in the end they were free.

I think Leon and Ben's interaction, is more of an issue of writing about Ben, instead of going straight up explain to Leon about the situation about Chief Irons, Irons is a corrupt chief and dirt bag, but then he just panic, but my issue lean more on technical side, which is A & B scenario, pretty the same outside of where they start and it lack that connection between the 2, where your action in A will allow B scenario to access a secret room or if you picked up certain item that will have you make decision whether to take it or let scenario B character have it

6 minutes in, just wanted to say a little smn about alice/kara. in the scene where she goes "if i tell you, you wouldn't love me anymore", we as the player know kara wouldnt flip on a dime like that if she knew alice was an android. however, alice as a character couldn't possibly know that. and yes, you could argue " well kara never showed her any disdain for androids " but kids say these types of things everytime theyre hiding something about themselves. they know nothing bad can realistically happen if they come clean, but kids (being kids) have their biggest fear set on their caretakers abandoning them if they have a big secret theyre hiding. its typical anxiety just wanted to point that out : )
