Transforming a suburban lot from grass to an urban permaculture paradise.
I want to inspire other suburbanites to ditch the lawn and plant a fantastic garden. I'm inspired by permaculture, no-dig, and organic gardening, with a touch of cottage gardening sprinkled in for fun.
I'm growing in Langley, BC Canada, Zone 8b (debatable with climate change...closer to 7 recently). First frost around November 2, last frost around March 28.

This is exactly what I hope to get! Oh my, fingers crossed...
Im rather new to the Northwest and i am learning the hard way about black berries and moss in my yard. Any cost effective ways or methods i can practice through out the year? I have tried all kinds of products thus far and I mainly shop at lowes. Any advice is greatly appreciated!! Thank you all in advance for any advice and your time.
Thanks for this information I’m going to do some of this when it cools off and also in the fall
So pretty 😊
It doesn’t look too bad mine are crazy! I can’t get on top of them. I cut them down and they grow right back. Have to get down to the root that’s the only way to get rid of them. ✌🏻
I have the same problem with anxiety. I know it’s not easy i need to start doing my own videos so that way I’m less fearful of just being out on my property gardening. Your garden looks great keep it up I subscribed right away. :)
I didn’t get any chips for a month. When I renewed my request they said my odds would be better if I coughed up some money. Hmm…
You remove Kudzu the same way.
Good overview of their lifecycle. The yard looks great!
How did this go? Current research has lead to recommendation that you do NOT amend soil when planting a tree. Just backfill with native soil removed to dig hole.
They're doing great. At the time it was what the nursery I worked at recommended so I just followed their advice. The asian pear tree is doing great and the cherry is doing ok (it gets hit hard by wind and doesn't like its location so it might not stay there much longer). I've planted 2 more trees since this video without amending the backfill soil and haven't noticed any difference between them and the amended trees. On the newer trees I added compost and mulch to the top around the tree instead of mixing in compost to the backfill soil. Hope that helps.
This was fun to watch, and gets me inspired to get rid of some lawn this way. I like your attitude and the general vibe of this video, and the way you filmed it in fast motion with catchy music. Nice job!
You are motivating me to clean my house. I tend to keep things because I think they my have some future use. The music for this video is perfect.
I signed up for ChipDrop on a Monday and had 10yrds dumped that Wednesday. It took me 5 mornings to move it all into my backyard. Not bad at all. Recommended.
A M A Z I N G ! ! ! Best video on late planting bulbs and showing results I've seen. Thank you!
Not excited about the one you planted very close to the driveway
You are lovely. Thank you so much.
Tomatoes! 😛
I came for a Chip Drop info video, stayed because it's enjoyable how non-contrived the presentation is
Awesome! Good work!
Does you dog chew on them my dog keeps chewing them even though they are spiky
No my dog doesn't chew the blackberries but he does eat my kale plants. Your dog is intense.
DNA.. It's present in every living thing. It tells everything to survive at any cost.
Every year I plant in terracotta pots in October through to January in England to stagger the flowering period. They all come up including the ones planted late January.
That sounds like it's beautiful!
murderer
🤣
Well, well, well, aren't you clever for doing this! I'm seeing the video in the middle of March and I'm in NH, so this is going to be a test and a half :-) It's already spring, so fingers crossed. Nothing ventured, nothing gained right? I was going to plant them anyway, but now I think I have a good chance. In any case, I'll find out.
February ain't spring technically.
Around here we often get spring weather starting in February so it really depends where you live. According to the equinox it's not spring but as we know, gardening and regional climates have nuance 👍
This is my next project. What gloves do you recommend to keep from getting stabbed to death? Thank You!!!
I have thick leather work gloves that work really well. The kind you get from the hardware store.
@@LauraStepney Thank you. These thorns look pretty aggressive. I found the Yardworks gloves that you used in in your video. You didn't seem to be having any problems with the thorns.
Do you have an update? What do the trees look like now?
Put some calendula in your meadow garden here and there, once they get going they reseed. I also work on creating places in my garden to "sit" and enjoy a tea after work, that brings me great joy as I do enjoy gardening. I am also trying for permaculture but it is a work in continuous process. :D Thanks for the video.
Can planter i March
You can try but I'm not sure if you'll get flowers this year or just leaves. But still worth it because bulbs are always better in the ground than in your house. If you live in a colder place you can stretch your planting time a bit later. Where I live in zone 8b the daffodils are starting to bloom now so it's a bit late for those.
This was 💯 the video I was looking for. I planted bulbs in Alabama in February and wanted to know if they had a chance of blooming this spring. Thanks for your video. ❤️
I had pumpkins from the fall in my pots up until the end of January
Nice!
Just do what you can! Thanks for sharing with us
Oh---bless you for your success. Now off I go with a more positive outlook to plant my bulbs, Allium.!
Love the cabinets! My favorite color. They look great! Good to have you back, I'm getting excited to plant as well.. Going to start seedlings hopefully this week in the greenhouse 😁
Ooh exciting!
What are you most excited to grow this year?
I'm actually really excited to try and grow extra produce to bring to my local food bank.
I don’t Know, too many things. Food wise, i want to grow some respectable chard, it’s my fave.
Weicome back, nice to see you again!.
Thanks! It's good to be back :)
These are my fav type videos!! You did amazing. Your flowers were magical
Nice to have you back! :)
I had hope for you until I saw the neighbours backyard. Are they prepared to remove theirs the same time as you remove yours. Otherwise you're wasting your time
Well it's been over a year and other than keeping the neighbour's canes clipped at the fence line I don't have any coming up in our yard :)
@@LauraStepney O that's great . you're onto it.👍
ohhh so you are in zone 8b, I was in 7b...then the zones changed and I'm now in 6b...well, I don't believe it so I'm ignoring it haha.. I am going to try Winter sowing this year, I'll be planting some seeds in milk cartons here within the next few weeks, I've never tried it before. Your garden is awesome, I think I need to grow some sunflowers t his year too
omgosh, I can go out in my backyard but I hate going out front and working on my yard where people can see me, I became agoraphobic when I turned 31, I had had a stroke and had to shave my hair off, I had big staples in my head, I slowly quit leaving the house because I felt like a monster ughh.. I eventually quit driving. Over 20 yrs later and I still rarely leave the house, going out to my garden makes me happy and keeps me busy. I try to tell myself to just go out there and brave it.. it's really hard. I probably have talked waay too much here lol, I have subscribed, your garden is beautiful and I'm plenty jealous haha
that zucchini WHOA lol
Awesome just planting mine now feb 5th lol
Better late than never! Hope you get beautiful blooms
Questi fiori sono scomparsi anche qui in Italia li vedo solo in un giardino
Bellissimo
This answers the questions I had about planting bulbs in pots, thank you! 🌸
