This is what happens when Americans out of the blue flock to Mexico "suddenly" realizing how "beautiful" is Mexico to retire because their money is stretched for the peso conversion, but they can't even are able or interested to use Celsius, KMS, kilos, litres, meters let alone keep a decent Spanish conversation with the locals as they want all their home amenities but at a cheaper price turning all the local economy for the people there upside down, should be two prices in these places one for locals and one for not nationals as they don't pay taxes as local Mexicans no the other "Mexicans" (expats that became Mexicans after arrival)

I've lived in San Miguel de Allende for many years and the Mexican people there treasure it and love it also. The Mexican people living in San Miguel de Allende are fine, don't you worry about them.
Lol! Get real! Ex-pats pay property taxes in SMA just like locals. Ex-pats pay Mexican income tax if they work in Mexico and generate income, AND they have to pay income tax in the U.S. as well.
Hola Mare, i have lived here for 20 years and i can def attest that X-Pats living here do definitley pay their taxes here. While the market is inflated right now because the demand is high and the market is being relegated by sellers who are placing a premium on their homes to sell- say 30% of our market isn't moving. This home was priced to sell two years ago, today it would be $8 million usd!

This is a wonderful place! But San Miguel is a State of México very expensive to Mexicans, more to live there because many people of other countries, principaly of EUA, live there, then many of the cost's propierities cost is in dollars!!! great house!
