    You should zero your meter AFTER selecting your ohm scale. This is because some meters use different sets of internal batteries, depending on the scale selected.

    Good video. It would have been easier to learn if you had the camera on the huge model of the meter instead of the camera being so far away & including you in all the frames. I can't even see the numbers.

    Great lecture, as I read this 9 years later! Surprised you did not mention the main advantage of analog meters over digital meters. With an analog meter it easy to visualize fluctuating signals as opposed to a digital meter displaying rapidly changing numbers.

    We used Simpson analog on F-18’s because when you’re looking for just a pulse of voltage on the weapon system it’s easier to see with a analog

    all the electricians i know and work with can not use a meter ( analog or digital) ,they just use a non-contact tester , they don't know what PV, PPV ,RMS means etc,etc ,on a analog meter ,the meter for them is useless ,the digital meter with all the functions ,,,,,,, like NPN,PNP , MFD, HZ, etc,etc,etc,etc they should stay away from them , they was made for electronics technicians not for electricians , most the electricians only have on they truck a NEC book and a non-contact tester on they pockets ,but 99% of them don't even have a code book on a job site because they are lost on a code book also You dont even know what is up there Sir ,i fond electric engineers can't use a meter ,,,,,,,i see that in my life ,,,,,, sir i'm 90 years old ,i see all in my career and in my life

    Nasty stuff, I'm glad I never have to deal with those and just use a digital meter from now on! So what can an analogue meter do that a digital one can't? He never mentioned it even though he said he would!

    First off. Quit calling yourself a "professor." You are a teacher. A professor would be a hell of a lot smarter and have a Ph.D.

  • @Impedancenetwork

    @Castlebury21 Oh my God you are so wrong! Einstein absolutely had a Ph.D. And when I said smarter I was speaking in general terms. I could address all your points, but this is youtube and I just don't want to spend the time.

    A PhD. D does not make you smart. I know a lot of people with a PhD. D that are as dumb as a retarded rock. Professors are not always smart. They may have more knowledge, but that does not make them smart.

    I have the USN military version the an/psm4a meter. I do remember using the simpson 260 vom. As to parallax problem some meters had a mirror in a band across the meter face. You would look until you only saw the needle. Is there anyway to get the an/psm-4a meter calibrated. the PSM-4a comes in a very heavy black case. The meter is made rugged to serve in harsh conditions. Do they still make something like the simpson 260. It was a big deal, 20K ohms per volt so it would not load down active circuits. USN 60-80 retired 1980

    Thanks for the lesson! One question: You zeroed out the ohmmeter at R X 10,000. I couldn't do that on mine unless I set the scale at R X 1?

  • @Torogol85
    @Torogol855 жыл бұрын

    Hmmm... still no answer. The ohmmeter can be zeroed on the three resistance ranges. The meter must be zeroed each time a user switches resistance ranges

  • @kb9knd
    @kb9knd4 ай бұрын

    Most analog meters use a 1.5 volt battery for the lower ohm ranges and a 9 volt or higher battery for the highest ranges. If your meter works on the lower ranges and not the higher, check your high voltage battery.
