    This doesn't seem really correct. Your 76dB "gain" is just a marking from Sounddevices. You can't rely on that to compute EIN with any accuracy.

  • @SoundSpeeds
    @SoundSpeeds10 сағат бұрын

    Two things... if you can't trust a high end manufacturer like Sound Devices, you can't trust anyone. Secondly, my results are exactly matching their claims.

  • @RaoulJasselette
    @RaoulJasselette7 сағат бұрын

    @@SoundSpeeds You can't. The advertised "Gain" is just marketing, most of the time. When it means something really, it's related to a non standardized 0dBFS level. RME uses EBU (+18dBu = 0dBFS at 0dB gain), Yamaha uses negative "gain" values (Value=level in dBu at -20dBFS), ... Sound devices, from their specs, seems to target 0dBu at -20dBFS for 0dB gain. Anyway, this value is not accurate. So you'd have to re-measure the actual dBu level for the chosen gain's 0dBFS level. Your way of computing EIN is using a difference between 2 gain levels. But the accuracy is influenced by 2 factors you don't control: 1. The accuracy of the gain difference between 50dB gain and 76dB gain. You suppose it is exactly 26 dB. OK, this is probably accurate enough. 2. The level of your tone generator. In your method, this is your ONLY reference to an actual Voltage or dBu level. You suppose you get exactly -50dBu from your tone generator. This is VERY unlikely to be the case. The only way to know is to measure it with a proper instrument. I measured my own CT100 test tone, and it varies from -51dBu with 600 ohm load to -40dBu with a Mic preamp input as load. As expected for such a cheap device, it is very much dependant on the load. If you were trusting Sound Devices' specs, you would compute the following, from their specs and your measurement : - Max input level is 14dBu for 6dB gain - So max level at 76dB gain should be 14-76+6 = -56dBu - EIN would then be -56 - 71.35 = -127.35dBu You may read my review of the MixPre-3 II, which uses similar (or identical) Preamps than your Mixpre-6 II, I suppose: www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/re-review-of-sound-devices-mixpre-3-ii-multichannel-recorder-review-advanced-mode.50437 I measured -130.4dBu EIN A-weighted where SoundDevices advertised -128dBu (150 ohm - bandwidth not specified) (By the way, you say your figure is matching their claims, but I see nowehere -130dBu EIN un-weighted in Sound devices specs. And your measurement is unweighted.) I also measured the 0dBFS level at 76dB gain at -55.4dBu, and EIN at -127.7dBu un-weighted. So quite close from the above estimation from the specs and your measured noise.
