    can this be effective for treating thrush and not just preventing it as well?

  • @LifeDataLabsIncCherokee
    @LifeDataLabsIncCherokeeАй бұрын

    Yes, it will treat a current infection. Because it is non-caustic, you can continue to use it after the Thrush has gone away to help prevent future cases.

    Thank you for the response. I wonder if you could tell me the warning signs that a bruise WILL firm into an abscess

  • @LifeDataLabsIncCherokee
    @LifeDataLabsIncCherokeeАй бұрын

    Signs that a hoof abscess is developing include swelling in the heel bulbs and coronary band, warmth in the hoof wall, and sometimes, you can feel a pulsing sensation. Of course, the hoof may also become sensitive to pressure and the horse may "favor" the hoof by not putting weight on it.

    Your video circled areas in the sole as well. I thought the stone bruising was the areas at the heel. Can you explain please?

  • @LifeDataLabsIncCherokee
    @LifeDataLabsIncCherokeeАй бұрын

    Although the farrier did not mention the sole, the heels and sole were bruised.

    PPID directly affects the health of the mane, tail, and overall coat. Normally this horse would have been brushed out to get rid of the old coat. This year, the horse had not been brushed out yet because it was doing so well shedding on its own.

    Question, an old timer told me to never pick a hoof before a trail ride. It will prevent debris getting stuck in hoof during ride. I always pick hoof & pack the hoof pick with me. Which do you agree with?

  • @LifeDataLabsIncCherokee
    @LifeDataLabsIncCherokee4 ай бұрын

    Yes, picking and cleaning the hoof of debris is very important in helping prevent hoof issues, but having a "clean" dirt/clay packing can protect the hoof from larger stones and debris while on a trail ride. Either way, the hoof must be picked and cleaned once the ride ends.

    Hey Darren- I think you just solved my mystery! My boy gets regular trims, feet are healthy but he gets false soles and 2 weeks ago came up lame, bad enough he wouldn’t walk across the pasture, he hollered at me and I had to go get him. (He’s Arab and dramatic) Took him to the vet, because his symptoms were more like he did something to his leg. X-rays showed a large abscess. I did a combo of soaking and poulticing and it finally erupted. Still soaked after eruption because they can come back. So yes! False soles are a problem causer!

    Sounds great. In my younger days of rescuing anything i could, it seemed the horses always had hoof problems. We needed something like this.

  • @bonniedavis4601
    @bonniedavis460110 ай бұрын

    I assume this is a rescue because this looks like years of home grown care by rank amateurs. Grinding my teeth. I got a TB once whose owner did not know it should have feet trimmed. Poor boy had two hooves that fell off when we tried to load him. We slowly walked him to his new home. It took 6 months to cure everything wrong with him but i got him for free, and besides he had my heart. He lived another 12 years and never limped again with attentive farrior care. Thank you to all the Great Farriors in this world. ❤❤

    ...and, as a matter of fact, I was thrilled to get the farrier out to deal with it rather than the vet (for your basic stone bruise--you'll know after he gets it opened up). Also for the watching audience, a horse generally present as "3-legged lame" when they have an abcess since it's so painful. Prepare for epsom salt warm water soaks daily, then cover after with a couple of burlap sacks or baby diapers, secure that with duct tape...

    I would recommend soaking the pelleted supplements too. I soak everything I feed my horse. His food is very moist when I give it to him. I recently saw both of these products in my local Tractor Supply and I wanted to buy the Hoof and Coat supplement. I have my horse on a natural Cushing's disease product already but his hooves need major help. I am also feeding Crypto Aero forage feed which has chopped hay in it. I am wondering if I buy the double strength horse feed, will it interfere with his natural pelleted supplement that he is on, which is working great, but he is slow to regain his weight.
