I have owned this camera multiple times. My last copy I bought in 2020 and it's a keeper. Other copies had issues with from or back focus. This one seems to nail focus 90 percent of the time. I take it out and shoot with it when the weather is nice and sunny. Still produces amazing photos with good glass. 12MP is more than enough for most users. Will continue using this camera and LOVE it because it's a true photography camera. No fancy video or any other bells and whistles you don't need. It's down to the basics of photography like it was intended. I wish camera manufactures would produce at least one body in their offerings that would be photo centric like this camera.

Agree on the viewfinder. I bought one for the GR3X and it’s dreadful. I like the lens cap too but I’ve dropped it so many times I can’t even tell you. Still debating the thumb grip. I find I’m constantly knocking the ADJ settings (especially the +/- comp) so I’ve stopped using it. Also made it uncomfortable in the pocket because it’s quite “sharp”. Finally while I *love* the PD wrist strap on other cameras I find it’s too bulky for the GR3X. Instead use the OG strap with a rubber O ring or simply tie a knot in it.

Hey! Nice video ! Do they run hot in the summer ? How’s the waterproof so far? I got the slip on from Vessi and after a year and a half, they now take water (from my right foot)

I had a 17 Colorado and bought a tent designed for it. What a pita to set up. If you didn't get it just right there was a big gap at the ends of the tailgate where it met the body. I was looking for something better for my 24 Maverick and saw this recommended on mavericktruckclub. As soon as north texas gets past "Too Damn Hot" this summer, I'll be taking this to Palo Duro state park and several others. Thanks for the awesome video!

This camera frustrates me. I love the colors and how it feels in hand. Then I add a battery grip and have the nerve to complain. I am an Olympus mft shooter for a reason. I have to back button focus to do the focus and recompose trick competently. I use this camera on paid jobs because of the separation and bokeh it captures. I only use 50mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.8. I seem to buy and sell these things. Always replace rubber i/o seals. Back button focus is the only way to use this camera quickly.

I haven’t tried this, but because it’s not classes a drill but instead an electric screwdriver I wouldn’t think it could. And it’s definitely not a replacement for a drill. Thanks so much for checking out my channel.

Q: do you recommend using spot or evaluate metering ? also, do you recommend exposing to the right ?

  • @islandbyfilm
    @islandbyfilm25 күн бұрын

I have 100% used a evaluative metering and yes exposing to the right without clipping the highlights is the name of the game on this camera. The dynamic range on the five classic is definitely one of the limiting factors but if you know how to work with it, you’ll be 100% fine.

  • @islandbyfilm

Hey there, there were actually no Flair issues that I noticed even when shooting directly in the sun seems to be well coated but I’m not 100% sure of that. Overall, it’s a really decent product but it’s way too expensive.

With the way you have done this you could even have one of those drawer systems on sliders right below the cot tent. There is a drawer system called "decked" which can take a lot of weight on top of it and it even has "D" rings on top so you could haul a couple of dirt bikes on the bed of the truck and once you arrive to your destination put them down and set up camp just like you have done here. Not a bad set up for a truck that gives you more than 35mpg! Is there a 4x4 version for the hybrid maverick or for it to be 4x4 you'd have to give up the hybrid?

Good video. I own three bodies. Not sure I'll ever sell them. Had the mirror fall out of one; glued it back same day. They were trying to sell these to film pros and the filmic sensor has never been surpassed in my opinion. I'm a Canon mirrorless user today, but it was the Canon 5D Classic that got me out of medium format film into digital.

I bought one of these in the last months after seeing videos like yours on here. I came from shooting an Eos R, but the 5dc really is incredible. I have been loving it and it has really driven me to shoot much more than I usually would. I've bought a few M42 lenses and OM mount to use with it which is great fun too. Just like you my mirror fell out on my first day with it, but superglue has held since!

I absolutely 100 percent concur with your review. Every point was on point. I've welcomed the limitations and I'm SO happy with the images that I've gotten. There is a 5D look and when I get the composition right, it looks incredible. Sometimes people have a hard time figuring out which is the 12.8 and the 24.2 that I have. I'm about to procure a 6D, just for the modern conveniences, but I think that I'll always have a 5D in my kit for the rest of my life! Thanks for your affirming review!

I bought a body only for $137 and it turned out to be a steal,'till I bent a CF card pin.It is now away for repair $150 so not the steal I thought it was.The screen on my camera seemed to be ok,but I don't take any screen result as gospel anyway.......................................

  • @islandbyfilm

Thanks for sharing this feedback. I actually don’t even take my CF card out of the camera. I just use the USB cable to off load the images now. Not perfect, but it works for me. As far as the screen goes, I really only look at the Histogram. That is the only way you can determine the actual exposure. All that said, I am loving this camera.

I have that same bag in Black. Overall, I really like it. I've use it as a combination day pack / camera bag when I travel around the the South West. I used this bag exclusively. when I went to Moab, Canyon lands, Monument Valley, and 4-corners. I've also used this bag when I've gone to Denali, Valdez, & remote villages throughout Alaska. If all you plan to take is a minimalist kit (a single body, and a couple of smaller lenses), then this bag is fantastic. If you plan on taking a fair amount of gear, or planning on taking it to a professional shoot, then this is not the bag for you. The padding moves around, and the space on top is too small to find much. If all your looking to do is a short hike or just a day outing, you'd be fine, but anymore than that, I'd look at a different bag.

That's what I do when using older cameras with a CF slot. From what I've read, the most plausible way someone bent pins in a camera CF slot was by putting a card in sideways (even though there would be so much slack/wiggle, you think someone would notice before jamming the card into the slot. But they were likely rushing anyway.)
