Information about moving to Thailand. If you are planning or dreaming of relocating to Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Samui or anywhere else in Thailand, I will be working to give you as much information and help as you can.

Thai Visas, Where to Live, Cost of Living, International Schools, Thai Culture, and anything else related to making the move to the Land of Smiles.

I dreamed of moving here for 20 straight years and then one day I just did it, and it was the best decision I've ever made. I made a lot of mistakes so now I want to help make it easier for you.

Always dreamed about retiring early and it looks like I will due to an unforeseen circumstance. Thailand, Vietnam, eastern Europe, South America, and Mexico are in my plans. Such great idea to take advantage of living in a lower cost of living country.

It's difficult because so many of us want to retire but we are scared to take that leap. Those of us over 60 know we are eating up valuble time by continuing to work but fearful of the furture without our regular income. Rules around social security and the most concerning.

Hummm... "A lot of expats to choose from as friends"....hummmm... Unless you live where I live. Which is on the very edge of Chyaiphum city in Chyaiphum Provence. Look it up on Google Earth maps. You simply could not get closer to the center of Thailand if you hired a survey crew. There is not even the hint of tourism here. I don't think anyone has even seriously considered thinking about hinting about tourism here. It would be cool to slog through flooded rice fields I suppose. I saw one other white dude following what I took to be his Thai wife with a shopping cart. He made it pretty clear that he had no interest in talking to me. Guess I must have blown my only opportunity for a deep expat friendship. I am constantly watch these "How Much Does it Cost to Live in Thailand" videos. Honestly, they make me chuckle. Wana know how much it REALLY costs to live in Thailand?... Stay out of Bangkok, don't go south of Bangkok, don't go way north to Chaing Mai or Chaing Rai, avoid places where tourists want to go. I'm pretty sure that living modesty in Thailand is far better than being homeless anywhere else.

You are a wise man! I live in an old trailer in a swamp in SE Texas. I’m debt free and have a high net worth. I’m happy in my swamp. Maybe I’ll fly to Thailand and hang out a while. I was there in the late 80’s and it was a great time.

crazy that you only feature Sukhumvit. If I were showing 8 neighborhoods, I might select 1 in Sukhumvit and the rest not in Sukhumvit. You left off Sathorn, Ari, Chatuchak, Saphan Kuai, Din Dang, Silom, and so many other places. I know that you cant include them all, but do a video of NON-sukhumvit areas next time :) Sukhumvit sucks and seems like every expat thinks its the only place to be.

11 more work days. I intended to retire in March 2025, but I am a new victim of RoF on my contract. I could take on another contract, my employer wants me to. Which is gratifying, for sure. But truth is: I know I'd be biding time and just paying lip service for the next 9 months. I can't do that to them, and I sure as hell can't do that to me. I am lucky. I can live well on SS income right now and not touch any savings or my very modest 401k except for urgent needs that might come up. I downsized 7.5 years ago, sold everything, bought an older but solid RV, gutted and renovated it, tricked it out with the tech I needed to work remote, and have the perfect movable work and living space. So at 65, I can do some gig work doing what I love to do and all that is gravy for my rainy day fund. Who knew?

Where would you recommend for a 7 day vacation we have already stayed in the area near Khao San Road about 5 years ago so looking for a different district. We will be there early January. We like to get an authentic feel of a place (as much as practical on vacation) like the local foods and local bars. We’re not into crazy busy and not interested in the lady boy shoes etc but do like to enjoy the social life in the area but not fancy high end bars or nightclubs at 2am 😂 somewhere with train access to other areas would be good as well and we like markets and street food. I’m thinking maybe the last places you mentioned but not sure if it would be too quiet for a 7 day vacation where we will be looking for a bit of variety.

If you own a house in the US or UK, do NOT sell it ... rent it out and enjoy the rental income for your support in LOS. Do NOT invest in a condo or other property in Thailand. Renting is best so you are free to move around. Find a place that is 35-70sqm at the most because electricity is expensive and you will need to run your air-con constantly when you are indoors.

Your description on Bang Chak, Punnawithi and Udom Suk is spot on. Living in Punnawithi gives me incredible peace in a bustling city. I got an amazing view of the city from where I live (if the air quality is relatively good), people here are incredibly nice, near zero tourist traps and Udom Suk Road, where most of the good food can be found, is also within walking distance.

You don't have a equality in Thailand. Foreigners are treated badly considering the amount of money invested in the overall economy. Restrictions on foreigners is reason enough to reconsider moving to Thailand. You can't work and own land.
