    Someone should really create a USB "pen drive" more or less in the shape of a normal floppy disk and a reader that can read those, including the reader making mechanical noises. All for those that want the nostalgic experience of handling old school floppy disks but with the convenience and data storage capacity of modern flash disks.

    I already got two barebones models and modded them myself. Given how they are somehow getting even cheaper I'm thinking I should probably grab a few more so I can start leaving them in devices. Good times for floppy emu fans.

    I might try that. I hope games have nothing ripped out. I wonder how good DOSbox setup is. Most of preconfigured games in Steam or GOG have terrible setup like low cycles or Adlib instead general MIDI. Always have to reconfigure everything.

    Hi. I own one of this adapter, I don't know if it is a Gotek or a clone, but I find it very slow. Installing Windows 3.1 took me forever. Of course, it is really convenient, but sometimes I prefer writing real floppies from a modern computer with my USB floppy drive (still fully supported by Windows 11)

    The Geforce 256 has the performance as Geforce 2MX or 2MX-400? I know its only a little diefference between MX and MX400 GF 2 MX has 175 MHT CLock speed and 166 MHZ Memory, while the GF 2 MX-400 has a clock speed of 200 MHZ and the smae Memory speed 166 MHZ. But there are also exists GF 2 MX-400 card which have 200 MHZ clock and 175 MHZ Memory.I habe 4x GF 2MX-400 and 1x GF 2 MX. One GF 2 MX-400 card has Memory clock of 175 MHZ but the other 3 the standard 166MHZ

    Hi,is Pcem using one CPU core like dosbox??

  • @philscomputerlab
    @philscomputerlab2 күн бұрын

    AFAIK yes for the most part, but a few other threads also exist. But having multi cores doesn't help emulate a faster machine, so the bottleneck will be the fastest single core performance.

    Hey Phil. I know this is an old vid but wanted to pass on some related info. I got 240GB SSD, 500GB SSHD, and 1TB HDD working, all formatted Fat32, partitioned to full capacity using Rudolph Leow patches, and MiniTool Partition Manager. Aligning is not good for the boot drive since Fat32 does not like to boot past the first 1mb. So I just used FDISK and then extended the partition in Windows. That's where the SSHD works well. No alignment needed to benefit from the SSD cache since it is managed by the drive firmware. Also in Windows you will get errors from ScanDisk and Defrag unless you copy the Windows ME ScanDisk and Defrag tools, because they work well with larger HDD capacities. Also tested SATA RAID connection on a SiS chipset and some SSDs do not play nice, but most HDDs work fine. This included the SSHD because it manages the SSD cache in device firmware. Sharing this info to give back since your video and posts on Vogons have helped me IMMENSELY! Happy tinkering. :) PS - Do you have a Discord?

    Thanks, happy to have found your video. I have 2 Gotek. One recent like yours, with the Artery 435. I already upgraded to FlashFloppy 4.31, but had the display rotated and perhaps missing some lines. I don't remember where I found the FW, but I never found the proper setting to put the display with the correct orientation, and a nice look ! The other one is older, with an Artery 415. So far, it seems half bricked, with another FW (may be an older version of FlashFloppy, can't remember either). After reading the Wiki, I've got hope that I may flash again and give it a second chance !

  • @AWalYT

    Depends on how new your controller is. The oldest controllers (and most Tandy 1000 models) use the drive select feature of the cable instead of activating the motor and drive lines simultaneously, so you might need to move the jumper between JC (PC Mode), S0 (Shugart Unit 0) or S1 (Shugart Unit 1). My "Dual Drive" modded PCjr only worked with it in the S1 position. If you model doesn't have one or more of these jumpers you can override it using the FF CFG file.
