The main issue is that respawning is too cheap. If it was as expensive as getting a Ghola made? Maybe then they could keep true to the lore.

I read that and laughed, first off most of the book fanbase already considers most of Brian books fanfiction (he had kevin j anderson pump them out for him). But the lore they changed was a hard written rule under frank. The reason shield gens and las guns dont mix was to explain why martial weapons were widely used in a world with high technology. Same with Shield generators also being effectively useless on most of arrakis between the worms and sand. Changing that pretty much breaks most of the world building going all the way back to the butlerian jihad and holtzman.

Got to think of it from what would a person that doesn't care what hapens to them selves. so long as they can cause as much damage as possible. and while shields on a player character probably won't be used in the deep desert. have to remember that 'Thopters and other vehicles will probably have shields. what easier why to screw someone over than just nuke them and their craft? I can see why they asked to have it changed just to try and head of any greifing. as nothing kills a game quicker than something that will instatnly ruin everyone's enjoyability but a select few that just want to watch the desert planet burn.

@@cailco100 Solution is easier than that, just simply not have either one of them. Fremen didn't really use shields up until the jihad into other worlds. Paul and jessica specifically trained the fedaykin to exploit and overcome shields. shield belts didn't function outside of the shield wall of Arrakeen, sand disrupted them and they called worms. That and no one dared use las guns out of fear of hitting a shield (though the 2022 movie ignored that logic for some reason)
