I don't think people use "budget" as an absolute value unless they're playing in a budget league. No one is talking about an Arabian Nights themed deck, or "I pulled a mana crypt precon" when describing budget as a power limiter. I play in budget leagues and you can make some intensely powerful decks for very cheap, but budget is going to put a damper on how quick and resilient your deck is, as well as tamp down card quality. Budget decks are far more reliant on synergies and timing than your normal deck because you don't have a random Bolas' Citadel you can storm off with or other 1-card game-warping superbombs. You can't get away with indulgent pieces like you otherwise might be able to. The reality is that a mediocre, but budgetless brew with a critical mass of staple bombs has a puncher's chance that most streamlined budget decks don't have. Manabases are also a budget consideration, with the gap between a budgetless and budget 5c decks performance and consistency being very noticeable. My budgetless decks are absolutely more powerful than my budget brews. The difference between, like, a 300 dollar deck and a 600 dollar deck is probably smaller than people think in many circumstances, but when someone shows up to the table with a deck more than double the price of everyone else's best decks that money isn't going to City in a Bottle or Secret Lair alt-arts. While I broadly agree that many of the metrics used for describing power level are imprecise or misdiagnose the issues, a table feeling like getting Jeweled Lotused and Docksided is out of place in a mid-power game isn't improperly gauging that the problem deck might have overspent for the game they're trying to play.

1. I agree that the Tower shouldn't be an auto-include into decks. 2. I agree that it is often jammed into a deck for the reasons you said. I have heard that said multiple times. 3. Having played EDH since 2007, I can tell you first hand that when it is good, it is really good. It is easy in blue and black [and now green] to cast burst draw spells that load you up on cards. • Not having to make discard decisions speeds the game up. • untapping with sometimes 2x as many cards as the rest of the table matters. You can spam spells without caring about resource parity. My two favorite decks to run the tower in are Mono Black control Kagemaro, First to Suffer, and in Breya, Etherium Shaper. Kagemaro should be obvious and Breya is in part for flavor and in part because of artifact value. Breya is from Esper and the Tower is from Bant and appeared on Esper during the conflux. I play a heavy theme deck with Breya because she is otherwise kill on sight OP, but my theme deck allows the table to have fun too.

I love the uniqueness of the Moonfolk, but am sad that they really haven't supported them enough to be a viable tribe. Imagine a Moonfolk Lord that caused you to once per turn put a land into play for free whenever you return a land to your hand as part of a cost for an ability (even if it's specific to Moonfolk). Keep you from sabotaging yourself in Commander by constantly going down resources and opens up the door to some powerful abilities being used each players turns.

But I use it not necessarily because I want to keep the cards but because I don’t feel like spending time to discard to hand size and make everyone wait while I have 15+ cards in hand. Also in my Necrobloom deck I run Gitrog. And it’s so easy to get stuck in the combo on discard step so I have reliquary in there so I don’t get stuck in a loop and deck myself. (Didn’t want to build it combo as I have done the Gitrog thing a lot in the past) he is just good value. Great video!

"Do we nan the next set of best cards again?" Yes. That's the point of having an ultra competitive format like standard. Edges will be pushed and pointy edges need to be sanded down before it becomes a spikey mess. If you don't like that, then make a separate EDH and cEDH ban list. And then you go on to say that cEDH isn't bad, but then you say that the fastest decks go for a win on turn 3 and that you must run low cost interaction to keep the game going. You realize how crazy this sounds, right? This is the exact logic that creates stale decks and play patterns. This is why people don't like cEDH. "cEDH is for complicated stacks". What a joke! Just because you have counterapell wars does not mean the stack is complicated or interesting. That's happening because people want to continue playing the game.

As someone who started playing Magic in the 90's and actively supported it through the 2000's and then dropped off (stopped in the early 2010's because kids and mortgage sapped my time and money), I'm flabbergasted by how many cards are being released each year. Back in my day (lords, I'm old enough to say that all the time now), we'd get a block with a large set and two small sets each year, and a core set of white border reprints every other year. Now we get 5 large sets a year, each with their own commander precons, and multiple supplemental sets each year to fill the gaps. This card acceleration clearly wasn't a decision for the health of the game. It really started picking up steam around the time that collector packs, bonus sheets and Secret Lairs became the norm. Those, plus Universes Beyond all scream "Cash Grab!". I haven't bought a booster box since Dominaria. I haven't attended a pre-release since Dark Ascension. I haven't bought a precon since Commander 2011. I don't see any of that changing, possibly ever. The only silver lining I can find is that the Universes Beyond seem to be well designed and made by true fans of the IPs. Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who and Fallout have all been warmly recieved, from what I can tell, and as a casual fan of all three, I'm happy with how they were translated into card form. If they can take the time to design cards, decks and sets that resonate with both sides of the audience, they'll be fine. If that quality drops consistently, that's when it's time to worry. Jurassic Park and Assassin's Creed don't give me a lot of hope, though.

Llanowar elves should have been the primary design of a ramp card with rampant growth being a far more rare/expensive effect but alas the bell can't be unrung, those cards aren't going anywhere. It is still on Wizards though, the answers to ramp decks are hated/taboo because they hurt everyone. We are so long overdue for getting a suite of 'Balance just for lands" effects or alternatively, an inverted Balance just for lands effect where everyone can instantly catch up to the ramper.

Hey I have this one for my encore deck!
Real chads play Memnarch and 30 mana rocks instead
For future reference: it's "kay-gah" not "keh-ee-gah"; looking at how it's spelled in Japanese (i mean, it's from Kamigawa "the divine river"), it means something like "capital river"
Yeah like the Weibell function
He’s had a lot of trouble pronouncing the Japanese stuff lol

@@zweis what?
Llanowar elves should have been the primary design of a ramp card with rampant growth being a far more rare/expensive effect but alas the bell can't be unrung, those cards aren't going anywhere. It is still on Wizards though, the answers to ramp decks are hated/taboo because they hurt everyone. We are so long overdue for getting a suite of 'Balance just for lands" effects or alternatively, an inverted Balance just for lands effect where everyone can instantly catch up to the ramper.
You asked for counterpoints...I don't have any. I've hated UB since the first Secret Lair. They've introduced UB from IP's that I like such as Street Fighter and League of Legends and I never got excited. UB is a blight on the game.
It's amazing how trash your opinions are
Funny enough this ended up in my feed right around the time I was considering building a storm deck lol. I've now done so and have been having a blast storming off with the new Ral from MH3!
