    To further understand Seagal's unique branch of Aiki Budo, I'd recommend seeking any of Seagal's top black belt students (now accomplished instructors in their own right), possibly Larry Reynosa, Jorge Angulo, Haruo Matsuoka, Jaime Calderon, Craig Dunn, etc).

    Wow, Octavio! This is gold! Thank you for sharing this thoughtful and introspective look into your personal journey in martial arts. I love the title you chose for this documentary. Interestingly, I recently read “Mastery” by George Leonard, where he emphasizes the ripple effect - the idea that small, seemingly insignificant actions or changes can lead to significant and widespread impacts over time. I began training in JKD with Angelo five years ago and have made remarkable progress since then. The influence of mentors like you and Angelo, who expect the absolute best from their students, pushes me to confront my limitations and strive to become the best version of myself. Your focus on developing speed, power, agility, and reaction time are definitely challenging, but it keeps empowering me and giving me a greater sense of self-awareness. But it is the philosophical underpinnings of JKD that resonates with me the most. The emphasis on adaptability and on constantly evolving one's approach - these lessons have carried far beyond the dojo. They've shaped the way I approach challenges in all areas of my life. Embracing the Way of the martial athlete wasn't just about learning techniques - it was about embarking on a journey of self-discovery. Through the crucible of training, I found a deeper understanding of myself, my strengths, and my purpose. It was a pivotal point that continues to reverberate through every aspect of my life to this day. I feel incredibly fortunate to have trained with you and am deeply grateful for your valuable teachings. Please continue to inspire the JKD community. I eagerly anticipate the next episode!

    I'd love to see something related on how Bruce managed to heal himself when he was told it was over by possibly the best of the best back then. It is crazy to me that the Dr. in charge did not even bothered on figuring what exactly happened, they make "science" but do not seem to bother about such things being part of real life

    @@lmclrain Bruce never “healed” himself. He rehabilitated his back as much as he could but he was always in pain. The issue was never really “fixed” in the way you think. this is why he started taking pain killers and took cortisone injections to manage the pain. It caused him a lot of problems. Also science isn’t “made up” it’s something that is observed, measured, tested, peer reviewed and studied. People don’t just “make it up” Everybody knows how Bruce hurt his back. He injured it doing good morning exercises damaging the sacral nerves in his back. If you did some research you could have easily found this out. You should buy John Little’s art of expressing the human body and wrath of the dragon: the real fights of Bruce Lee for more information about him.

    *This is a great episode, Octavio! As a JKD practitioner, I love how well you showcased it. I do have to ask, because I noticed some of the instructors from the Ted Wong line are against trapping and are focussed purely on evasion and attack without traps and also with the back hand protecting your chin from the side rather than an almost fully open palm protecting your face from the front, because apparently Bruce's last photo in the stance showed him doing that. What do you think of this?*

  • @octavioquintero
    @octavioquintero12 күн бұрын

    Yes. You shouldn’t trap if you’re only evading and attacking. If having the hand open helps with security then I would suggest a student to continue using it. Same thing with the chin open. Just determine when & why you would use the defense you’re seeking in that way .

    At the 15 minute mark, had me remember the time my jkd school closed down and was told I was going to be a certified instructor but I never got my certificate. I was very upset and didn't train for 4 years until i survived a health scare I had in 2021. I'm finding myself learning new lessons that my sifu didn't teach me. • @axelstone3131
    @axelstone313113 күн бұрын

    You follow the principles, simplicity, directness, economy of motion. It’s not copying. Bruce’s delivery system of fencing footwork is sound. It allows you to be fast and explosive, to get in and out quick. What do you think he was teaching his students? Just to do “whatever you want”and hope it somehow works? I think you miss a fundamental detail about what makes JKD work. The movement Bruce utilised is adirect result of the footwork and its efficiency. Why wouldn’t you follow his guidelines. To get from A to B in the fastest time you use a car not a horse and cart, why would you go backwards?
