    Vanheim so far. There's two more neighbors in the future that see a bit more diplomacy. Talking to Mekone was a bit pointless, as I was guessing "sure, I'll surrender all my lands to you", would probably not be in the range of answers I could expect. Our fish friends were spooking the hell out of me, so I went with a "no talk, but also no aggression"-tactic of diplomacy, hoping we could just ignore each other.

It's a bit finicky, since you have to get the mod first from the link and then basically ignore the installation guide and instead follow my own. Basically, to get this mod without the German translation, you need to use the patcher and then run the fixes and changes contained in the mod by yourself and hope for the best. (Obviously, that's everything except the translation patch.) If neither that nor learning German sounds palatable, the same OP also contains a list of other MO3-mods just above my guide.

    @Libluini gotcha, there weren't any links, but I guess the mere mention of the other website names triggers autodeletion. Anyway, I have a question concerning your LP. Do you watch major fights unfold during late turns? The reason I'm asking is that in my version, the game starts to freeze and stutter as soon as PD ships start hitting fighter packs until DirectX error appears if there are a lot of fleets being present in the combat. Edit: forgot to mention that I'm playing my own modcack with ton of tweaks slapped on top of translated Ultima Orion, Strawberry, Chocolate and Tropical. _On side note:_ if you take suggestions for the next LP take a look into Space Empires 5 or Star Ruler 1.

  • @Libluini
    @Libluini Жыл бұрын

    @@ComradeReptiloid my framerate drops into the single digits sometimes, but since auto-resolve sometimes ends with fleets stalling out, I sometimes have to take things into my own hands. Either Windows 7 (the OS on my old notebook) runs the game better than modern machines, or it's just a case of too many different mods doing too many different things to the poor game engine. Alternatively, the way MO3 "works", it wouldn't surprise me if there's a difference between someone looking at a battle and someone actively taking control. (My guess then would be that the added strain of the game's AI trying to control your ships is the final straw.) Most of the time I'm still using auto-resolve, because I now have regularly 8+ huge battles per turn, +4-8 minor ones. If I'd try running them all myself, that would make each turn something like 1+ hours longer.

    The Antlion is not a hard boss, but it's hard to dodge. Given your sight issues, staying at the top and jumping on his green parts would be safer. The Magic solution is simple: hit the rocks with magic. You'll turn the rocks into heavy weights that pound the Antlion on the head. The paratroopers were clearly sent to stop you from advancing. And yes, those ladybugs are also King Pete's minions. Had you waited, the platforms would loop. The barrels can't go down the stairs, sorry. As for that one treasure box with more coins, if you keep hammering it, you'll get multiple coins. Also, unfortunately, that one door needed a barrel before it. For the Cannoneer midboss, you can use any of your costumes. That said, you must hit the cannonballs, NOT him; his armor is too tough. The armor can block them when you crouch the belt can grab and swing them, and magic can send them back completely. For Donald, of course, ***HOLD. Y. ALREADY.*** The ropes are a hint to use the climber outfit. The goons in the ropes can be defeated by the Armor's quake. The Bulldog Captain is the opposite of the Cannoneer. He's ONLY weak to melee damage; the hint is that when he gets hit, he'll immediately go into a counter spam. All magic does is stun him. Sorry, but just because an enemy reacts to something, it doesn't actually mean damage is dealt. Only that one 'smash' noise he does is actual damage. That said, next level, try using magic when the boss attacks. You'll understand when you see it. ...oh, and DON'T SWAP TO ARMOR in this level for a while.

    So, those things are either mosquitoes or dragonflies. The metal things you didn't really know what to do with are 'climbable', just like the vines. Basically anything of the same shape as the vines, you can latch on. That'll come into play later. To beat the boss with the Climber outfit, you'd be swinging at those orb things it spits out. Level 3 time! The undead bull is only vulnerable at the head, but it has a decent invulnerable period between strikes. However, while its tackle will damage you, crouching while standing still in the Armor will stop the horns in place safely. You still have to jump over them, but it will help you. Finally, the Magic costume! This game's Support costume lets you affect the environment through magic spells. Mickey gets to be a Vegas magician with a top hat and tuxedo, while Donald gets an Aladdin get up and magical lamp. This lets me touch on something you might remember from the demo screens - co-op play. Two of Donald's costumes let him carry Mickey! While he's crouching and rolling, Mickey can stand on Donald's barrel, which lets him get over water. Donald's magic outfit will do something similar - hold Y, and the genie's hand will stay out, letting Mickey stand on it. It's gimmicky, but fun. Regarding the trampolines, this is actually standard in the Magical Quest games - instead of timing, you get a super jump by holding B non-stop. This applies to the pumpkins from the Harvest Festival and the Cowboy outfit's high jump. Stage 4 is pretty fun, letting you mess around with all outfits and getting bonuses that way. That said, I do have a suggestion to you... The stage boss is intended for the Armor. When you defeat it, though, switch to ANY other outfit before the stage ends.

  • @solenkierke4059
    @solenkierke4059 Жыл бұрын

    Level 2 then! The Climber outfit is the game's Exploration outfit. It doesn't really have much difference per character other than perhaps a hitbox - Mickey's swings are more horizontal and Donald kind of skips ropes with his belt. Climbing is done by holding up when you are near a climbable pole - attacking isn't needed. Swinging on the poles [left/right] counts as an attack. Spores dissipate if you swing around while on a big pole, or touch water. Otherwise, they stick to you. There's actually a 2 player glitch with these outfits, but it was extremely hard to do: by grabbing onto the vine just as you go off-screen, I managed to hold on despite being off-screen [and thus should be dead]. The moth midboss is a test of your climbing jumps. You don't NEED to jump on her - just swing around, and your butt swings will deal damage. You also jump farther by swinging immediately, then jumping. ...or you CAN turn into the hammer outfit with Donald and float down the river. You can attack as him. Still, if you're gonna play as Mickey? Climb the stalks.

  • @solenkierke4059
    @solenkierke4059 Жыл бұрын

    To add further to the explanation: The way your attack works in the Climber outfit is that the belt hitbox will check what it is currently touching. It will try to turn the object [block or enemy] into a tossed projectile. If it cannot, it does nothing. The reason why the moth midboss is not affected is because nothing in this fight can be turned into a tossed projectile - her spores are only able to slow you down, and her body is not treated as an object small enough to be affected. So you have to rely on the jumps or butt swings to deal damage. As an extra tip, your other error in the boss fight was to stay in the back when you fell. There's hardly enough time to climb back up - try to swim to the right side of the screen and climb from there.

    Guess which game was my first game ever? The prank the kids played is what you see in the title screen: they throw a ball and it hits Donald in the head. This game's main changes come in adding a new bonus game and an oxygen meter, better cutscenes, and hints at the start of each level. For this one, you're told to grab and break boxes. The bonus game is very unfair, unfortunately. The cutscene with the blacksmith and his wife puts the Mickey lines [about his armor] before Donald's. The Armor is this game's Combat outfit. Their primary feature is to give you a direct melee attack, but they both work differently: Mickey uses a boxing lance with more range and that he can aim in four directions, while Donald's hammer only deals direct damage in front of him. Both weapons, however, have a new charge mode - by waiting until the meter refills to the big lines, any impacts to the ground will cause a screenwide quake that stuns weak enemies. The upgrade speeds this up meaningfully. They also have different interactions. Press down to set your shield, blocking direct damage from attacks. [Mickey can do that by holding Y.] While like this, Donald can roll around in his barrel. The materials also affect their interactions with water, stopping the normal swimming - Donald's barrel armor floats automatically no matter how deep he is, while Mickey's legitimate metal armor will sink to the bottom. Funny about Donald: despite walking around with no pants normally, he'll cover himself up when he dies. Will leave a second post on level 2, this is too long.

    Reminder of the plot: Baron Pete sent his monsters to invade the mansion, leading to them driving the Lonesome Ghosts away, and also the circus, because he's mean. You can jump off vines, chains and such before reaching the end. Since there's no time limit, in theory, you can stock up on money by going back and forth into the shop, but that's a lot of effort. So Baron Pete! His face is his weakness, but normally it'll be protected by his skull helmet. You can, however, use his hands to jump on his head, bouncing quickly to defeat that phase. By comparison, the dragon head is harder to track, especially as its pattern is random. What you need to do is jump AT the flames' center spot, to avoid being burned. 2-Player Ending will skip the 'Mickey!' bit, though player 1 will still be the one to grab the orb and toss it. That's why the Ghosts say 'Thank you, Mickey and Minnie'. For the next game, at least, controls SHOULD be better. Both characters are more unique, so you should at least show them both a little. As a tip, depending on HOW you die, let go of buttons other than the D-Pad/stick. You'll understand. What Donald game are you talking about at the end?

    The time blocks introduced here are a little pointless. They don't last long enough to be useful in most areas they appear in and there's no timer to slow down. Still, you get temporary invincibilty while it's active. Clarabelle Cow is the shopkeeper this time, yeah. Unfortunately, you kept missing the shop. The cork gun's hit box doesn't affect what's immediately in front, so point blank shots don't work. It also flies upwards so you can try shooting without jumping. The midboss is best fought with the Safari outfit; you can use the walls to avoid getting hit while it slides, and jump off when the water rises. As long as your character's nose touches an air bubble, you restore your air stock. You can tell if you're running out by seeing if bubbles come out of your mouth. The boss doesn't damage you by freezing you, only by firing thunderbolts at you. It's mostly annoying to defeat without getting frozen. And unfortunately, I don't know if there's a way to beat it otherwise.

  • @solenkierke4059

    So it's true I didn't remember the charge dash. It shows you how often I used it. It does deal damage, but it takes too long to charge against mobile enemies. The next game has a better charge move. Fun fact! Because the last stage's cutscene shows your character in the Safari outfit, you always start with it. As the fourth stage in the game, there are only three parts to this level. You can actually make that jump off the stalactite to reach the second gray sphere, letting you swing around and drop both stalactites safely, then you can jump onto the third gray sphere to do the same to the last one. There isn't much you can do against the midboss. You can try climbing the walls, but the bricks will hurt you if they land on you. You can absorb the ants, ammonites [fossils] and the Stegosaurus's back plates, as well as throw them if you land on them as normal Mouse [the other way to deal damage to this boss]. And no, it's not an Apatosaurus, although the face is mixed; it's not big enough.

    There is a translation patch for the third game's SNES version. You might want to check it out. Finally, an antagonist is named! Pete's sure gone downhill, going from Emperor to Baron. The Cowboy outfit is the game's Combat outfit, granting you a cork gun and a continuous high jump, which you can trigger by holding B. The disadvantage, of course, is that you can't change suits while hopping. Enemies with targets spawn randomly, and usually have a higher chance of giving you items. It applies even you hit them with blocks. You can use the ghosts to bounce high enough to jump over the big ghost for a challenge. The midboss cannot hurt you with the fire breath if you stand at the very edge of the screen.

    So, the safari outfit! Unlike the climber outfit, this exploration outfit completely replaces the grab since Mickey/Minnie can't let go of the hooks, and thus you can only grab the round parts of the large boxes. By default, contact with solid walls and objects designed to be interacted with will trigger the climbing animation, keeping you in place if you are not holding left or right. Very useful at points. As you saw, you aren't completely invulnerable while swinging, though; big attacks will hurt you. Colors-wise, Mickey gets the yellow one shown by the ghosts at the start. What is less obvious is that if you are holding Up while jumping near certain thin platforms - namely, those branches from the trees you passed by, or the neck of the snake - you will actually latch on to them. You can't move around, but you can climb up from there. When the turtle midboss is spinning in the middle of the river, you can keep hopping on its shell harmlessly, up until it sinks back underwater. For the area with the vines [before the poison gas], if you jump off the vines as you're sliding to the left before it ends, you'll eventually arrive at the game's shop. There's no point in climbing as high up as you did against the gorilla; you need to jump over his attacks. Going into the trees risks you getting hit by him when he spawns. It's better to wait for him on the ground, and climb when he reappears. Those coconuts he drops can be thrown by normal Mickey/Minnie. By the way, the next outfit is... tricky. Due to how it works. My tip to help with the issue you'll find is to either keep mashing A when you select another costume, or maybe hold Down when you do it.

    Time for Magical Quest 2! This one was released to both the SNES and Mega Drive when it came out. As you can see, it has a few changes - different artstyle, passwords after you are defeated, and a simultaneous 2-player mode that can be started or ended at any point. Both characters are identical this time, so costumes won't change besides aesthetics. The weasel is an easy-ish boss. It's easier to hit it if you try to stay close, in comparison. The sweeper outfit is the game's Support costume. Unlike the firehose, you can't affect the normal blocks directly, but you can pull certain things, similar to the hook. It takes a second to reach full power, and after that you will absorb things as soon as they enter the field. Mickey's version is light blue instead of light green. Something you did miss out on is that the lion's mane is, in fact, vulnerable to your costume - as long as it's not curly, you can suck it up. Do it enough times and the boss will lose its projectiles. Also, I think you can get damaged by jumping on it when they are curly, but I don't remember.

    yeah, like berryjon suspected, I totally whiffed on this, for some reason I wanted to try sucking up those fluff balls in my test game, but then forgot when the recording was running Mostly though because this is another boss staple of this series: The boss with the gimmick you can totally ignore if you want. Also since your vacuum only transforms stuff into coins instead of something useful, like projectiles you can shoot back, using it offensively is often not really a thing you want to do. And yes, in the same un-recorded test game I confirmed that jumping on the Lion's mabe when it goes topsy turvy does indeed hurt.

    Aside from free-ish coins being useful, the other thing the sweeper outfit does convert into is batteries. You'll see later.

    Given how his mane flies out when he sneezed, I was surprised you couldn't vacuum up his hair.

    I'm pretty sure the helmet monsters can be pushed by the firehose [which is why you get a refill before it]. You can get out of the water either by using the climber outfit's hook to reach back up. You do have to hurry, though. The many doors lead to refights against the minibosses from stages 1-3. The flying torches normally give away some recovery items when destroyed, but that's more likely in the final fight. A relevant note: they will always give the refill for whatever defeated them - so you get magic lamps if wearing the turban and fire hydrants if firefighter. Regarding what they resemble, maybe you're thinking of the Red Arremer? The GnG monster that keeps away, before divebombing you. Also, yes, you can defeat Pete with the Firefighter costume. It's a bit harder due to fuel consumption even with the upgrade, but as long as you hit his face, you can do it. When this game was rereleased for the GBA, they added Minnie as an alternate playable character, despite not making it a two-player game. The only difference between them is in the designs, as they play identically. At any rate, thanks for the LP. Hope to see the next one soon!

    There is probably a good case to be made for the Peter Pan/climber outfit to have been less of a priority in this game in terms of mechanics: the hook blocks are no longer common or useful, giving way to these one-off ice blocks, and while it helps, there's no point in using the hook to 'skip' platforming. For the boss, this is one point where the expected outfit is not helpful. The boss takes around six to eight full power magic shots to the head, which are faster than freezing him. Something you should remember is that the bosses do have obvious patterns. For this one, the pattern from your failed run: right, skate left, skate right, skate left, do a flip left, do three flips left, do three flips left, skate right, skate left, do a flip left, do three flips left, do a flip left, do a flip left, skate right. That isn't to say all bosses are equal; the Snake and the Spider try to target you more often than not.

    Now this is interesting, though I'd argue this makes the snake boss better designed then Ice Skater Pete, as it's still possible to evade the snake even if you don't realize there's a pattern, while Walrus Pete is too big to be jumped over. So this means if you don't memorize the pattern, Pete will always get you when he decides to stop doing cool air stunts. Or you just keep on jumping forever, that would work, too. (Though then of course the expected costume is even more useless.) The spider on the other hand, it's such a weird concept. Especially since game mechanics mean you can just machine gun it to death with your magic. The third boss is very well designed again, and then the fourth boss is just plain evil. If you realize you can steal her egg, it's a little bit easier, but it won't protect you from being insta-killed by dive bomb attacks, so it's a wash. The last boss surprised me with how easy he was, as a kid I was really struggling with that asshole. I guess he just intimidated me with his big size? Anyway, tomorrow I'll upload the final fight of this game.

    So about this stage's intro: unlike every other 'early stage' interaction [Dark Forest or Fire Grotto], the timer actually goes down during the conversation. With this, all outfit 'types' of the trilogy debut: the Offensive type [which deals the most damage on average], the Support type [which may be capable of damage, but its purpose is to aid in exploration] and the Climbing type [which is focused in exploration thanks to its gimmicks]. The hook will default to a diagonal shot unless you hold a direction. Up fires it upwards, while Down and Forward will fire it straight again. Something you missed in 4-2: if you manage to navigate the area beneath [a hard-ish area], you can get the stage's Heart. On the boss... there's a much easier way to handle it in this outfit. Grab the egg before it's cracked and you can throw it at the boss. Yeah, it's stupid/unfortunate that you were having so much difficulty with that. Good luck with the next stages.

    Yeah, that was the point I was thinking about. I'll have more to say about the outfits next episode, but I think the Store is just an alternative way to buy the stage's extra Heart in this one, so you can't get one if you have it. I could be wrong, though.

    I love these games! Had the other two, though, which I did play over and over. I'll point out some things for them that become relevant. For this one, well... -That's a very long word for "Maybe/Probably". -The house is impassable from above due to a cutscene. Can't get around it. Later games handle it better. -Yes, the English name of the bad guy is Emperor Pete. -The Wizard says nothing about 'treasure'? Just golden boxes. -Some mechanics aren't consistent between games, like how clear it is to stay underwater or the game timer. -Starting with the next game, there is a simultaneous two-player mode which does affect cutscenes somewhat [mostly on 3]. Are you going to show that off?. -There was an invisible extra life in the beaver house in 1-3. -In English, he's just a Wizard. -The way to get there safely is to just go up one level, then jump onto safe ground from the slope. -Pretty sure there was a secret underwater in 2-3.
