Knowing how much material, skill and labor is involved in making one of these, I wonder how much would it be sold? I cannot even imagine it. Perhaps in the ten thousand dollars?

Awesome bowl, but, how did you determine what pattern you were going to get after turning??????

Very nice work. Just wondering when you glue up your rings and you use the maple veneer between, are you gluing walnut end grain to maple face grain? I'm assuming because it such thin veneer it might be ok when the wood changes in humidity?
@stuartstheman4 жыл бұрын
Great question! Yes it is gluing walnut end grain to maple face grain. It is a pretty weak joint, so any time I accidentally drop a glued up ring they always fail at that point. However, when the bowl/vase is all glued together, the amount of face grain to face grain glue between rows keeps it all together. I've had a large glued up bowl fall off the lathe and land on concrete sever times, never had a glue joint failure. I've also yet to experience a glue failure over time but my oldest piece is only 3 years old so we'll see how they age.

hi do you have a pattern per ring nice job dude
@stuartstheman4 жыл бұрын
I don't have a pattern exactly, but i have the template! Follow this link, and at the very bottom of the bottom left window you'll see "var rows = 15;" and "var segments = 45;". Just change those values to be as many rows/segments as you want and then click run at the top left! Let me know if you have any trouble getting it working.

This is amazing, but I dont understand why nobody is asking about how you get each segment cut cleanly on the bandsaw! If I did that there would be so many small gaps that I would smash it into small dust chips!
@stuartstheman4 жыл бұрын
Yeah the bandsaw left pretty rough cuts, I sanded each piece on a belt sander to get the smooth gluing surface you see in the video.

Blue Ribbon craftsmanship, best I’ve ever seen, I’m betting your lathe didn’t come from Harbor freight! Keep up the beautiful work
@stuartstheman4 жыл бұрын
Haha that is correct, this is a Nova lathe with a DVR motor. Highly recommend! Makes things a lot smoother. However, I've made another vase very similar to size and shape to this on a Harbor Freight lathe! So a premium lathe isn't a requirement, just a nice quality of life upgrade.
