When you referred to the neighborhood as “darling “ it reminded me of your grandmother. One of the terms she used when something really impressed her. ❤️

What an utterly charming neighborhood. If nothing else, in front.... I would add potted seasonal plants inside the small circular shrubs surrounding the tree/bush in the center. Even leaving them in the pots seasonally. Fall mums, poinsettias... spring lillies. A tree lined street is my dream. I have been in my home 52 years.. and every time a home sells on my street...the new owners cut down all the trees. Its heartbreaking to me. They have taken away all the charm over the years. I hope you will post the progress of this gorgeous backyard on KZread. I don't do Instagram. Love all the hard scape and plantings ..and surrounding arborvitae. I love the structure these mature trees lend to the garden.

I really like the mixed shrub perennial bed style and have been adding more evergreens to my gardens. I’m currently a fan of the weeping variety and would love to see some in more videos. A gorgeous garden as always. A delight. Eager to see more.

Jack, You have such a calming, creative mind. I love your work! What are those evergreen columnar trees. Do the stay on the smaller side. I have a small courtyard backyard and need something to grow very near the house that will not damage the foundation. I like the look of those trees. Thank you!

For those critical of the vinyl fence and artificial turf, remember that Jack has to work around his client’s wishes and concerns to deliver his final product. Myself, I detest shiney plastic vinyl fences, especially the lower end ones sold at the big boxes, that begin to sag after a few years. Artificial turf?, maybe in a desert landscape but never in Michigan, but again it’s what the clients wanted. Personally, I’d have chosen a hardscape that incorporates grass and lets rainwater drain through efficiently. Lastly, there is no such thing as “maintenance free”.

For sure- it is “low maintenance “- but not maintenance free…. And working with their desires and making it work and look really amazing is a challenge I enjoy~~~

I live near here. A charming, historical, brick home transformed into a dark gray shoebox house surrounded by a white, plastic resin fence. Artificial turf? What next? Artificial trees? My goodness. They don’t want to cut grass. Surely, they won’t want to rake leaves! Why do people move to older historic neighborhoods in the first place? Because of the older brick homes with lots of character, lovely, lush, green lawns, magnificent trees and spectacular flowers and shrubs. Please don’t go back next year and put in artificial hydrangeas! Respectfully, Jack I love what you design.

I used artificial turf in my front yard. 1. I have many trees and grass was not working, and 2. I have a dog who is tied out front when she goes out and she decimated what lawn I had. Artificial grass was the answer. Nice and tidy and always green!

Why bother with fake grass. Just use simple pea gravel. Recent information notes that fake turf is really gross.

I’d agree with you but in some instances can be an improvement, but it has to be done correctly and with the right type of paint. With historical masonry work, it can actually hasten deterioration.
