Thank you so much for this excellent remastered video! I still have my original 5-CD version of Riven after being caught up in Myst lore, (read all of the books as well) and have graduated to the current version of both games on Mac and iPad. REALLY looking forward to the release of the new Riven!

As someone that has wanted to play this but hasn't been able to, this is an incredible step up from Myst. Going from very limited movement and sparse video, to this much stuff going on, is like another world.

Everyone keeps saying 90s. I read this magazine well into the 2000's. Only when it started doing a website e-mag did it truly fall apart. I loved this magazine more than any other publication. It was enjoyable from cover to cover with insight jokes opinions and rumors that literally no other could come even remotely close. I was always confused how it shut down the first time considering it was considered the highest authority in gaming journalism. I worked at gamestop a long time ago and they sold subscriptions to their terrible magazine that came with their discount card so maybe that had a bit to do with it.

They put so much genuine work into the old Sonic games. Here's hoping they have that inspiration going forward at Sonic Team after Frontiers. Very nice recap 👍

And what do we have today? 0 The devide between customers and the gaming industry(indie excluded) couldn't be bigger and is growing every day. They will never recover from this. I mean it is not as much a industry anymore more like a permanent shareholders meeting. I tell you guys, the writing is on the wall for this one. Second crash is inbound. Well....maybe Nintendo will save the whole thing. After they did in the 80's, after they did it again in, involentarily, creating the Playstation. When Sega dropped the ball hard and everyone from the 3do company to Atari didn't know what the hell they where doing and there was just this tidalwave of mediocracy. Breathing life back into the casual gaming world again and again. With the gameboy, the wii and the switch. I don't like nintendo. They, usually, don't feature my kind of games. Still I have to give them props for being the only real life support system this industry has ever really had.

I watched this video over and over, each time i cried 😭 It's a masterpiece you have a real talent. I always knew this game had lost levels from listening to the sound test menu. Hidden Palace music is in the game only through sound test mode. The Crazy thing about that song is, I had deja vu the moment i played it as if i heard it before, but i just found it that moment years ago so i had mixed feelings over that moment. The song sounds sad... like abandonment which is what happened to it in the end funny enough. Thank you again for making this video and for introducing me to the faces behind the stages we all wanted to see in this game once we found out it had cut content 😢 Once you get the stages up and running I'll make some original fan made music that i feel would be perfect for it for you to review. Again, thank you for showing Brenda Ross, Graig Stitt, and Tom Payne the respect they all deserve. 😭🥺🍓

actually, now that you mention it, Sonic Orgins Plus, which i own for Switch, had an art book in the games case that could be removed. several peices of concept art were the original concept art skecthes made in 1991, 1992, and 1994, completley preserved and unchanged, with all of the little notes still there. some of them were for levels that almost nobody even talked about in any video or forum ive seen, such as on stage that had the loops that Sonic runs through made out of stone with symbols of a sun with a face on them, and even a concept of Cyber City that was not even released to the general public until now. im not flexing or anything, just pointing out something that i found odd that nobody really mentioned before

Sonic devs did pretty much the same thing as Streets Of Rage in terms of a sequel. the first Snic game was realeased in Japan before North America and the second was released in North America before Japan. the first Streets Of Rage was realeased as Bare Knuckle in Japan before being released as Streets Of Rage in North America, but it was nowhere near as big a success over there as it was in the west and Japan was not really eager to make a second game, so we got the sequel first and it was actually even better than the first game

1:00:58 Imagine someone mentioning Scorsese while talking about Zelda. He’s my favorite director of all time, but not the first filmmaker I would think of when talking about Zelda. Spielberg, Wyler, Lucas (When he was still respected) or DeMille would have been more fitting examples.

My mind is completely blown finding out that Sonic 2 would have had a coherent time travel story and what we got was a fun, albeit cobbled together mish-mash of levels that made it through the chopping block. THIS is why video game preservation is so important!

One of the absolute masterpieces of the computer age. From graphics, to music, to world design, atmosphere, story telling, puzzles. I can't even find words to express how much I love this game. I played it again as an adult, thinking I might be bored and cringe at it. Far from it, I was sucked into the world and when I finished it, I was a puddle of tears, all the bottled up memories of my childhood and family that were linked with it. Thank you so much for creating such a masterpiece. Still puzzles me that Cyan didn't end up becoming one of the biggest game studios in the world. I guess it's not just skill and vision...

It is the best Video Game Ever created and will never be bettered. I completely lost myself in Riven years ago on playstation with the little grey mouse on a magazine on an old shaky table sitting on the side of my bed and it was the best gaming experience of my life. I now have all the latest PC gaming equipment and set up and I still can't better it... Cyan are Remaking Riven now in full 3D and VR on unreal 5 engine released later this year, but im not convinced as Myst 21 remake completely ruined the feel of the game. But I would like to walk around Riven in VR. we'll see
