This horn section must have been brillient to have Booker T and the MG's as their backing band.

One of my greatest musical memories was watching this show - Twice!! Being the first member of the Booker T-Set (fan club) as well as being in the Stax/Volt Appreciation Soc. and Friends of American Rhythm'n'Blues Soc.(among others) I wasn't going to miss this one ! Imagine,Otis ,Sam & Dave,Eddie Floyd,Arthur Conley,The Mar-Keys and the magnificent Booker T and The MGs all on one bill - FABULOUS !!! The first gig I saw was at the long gone Granby Halls in Leicester (now the car park of Leicester Tigers Rugby Club!) Sat. 25th March 1967 and was titled "Hit The Road Stax" Al Bell was supposed to compere but he was replaced by DJ "The Emperor Rosco" and believe it or not there was a Motown covers type support band! It was a standing only gig and we were right up against the stage, feet away from our heroes-unbelievable! Unfortunately,as a result,I was stone deaf for nearly 2 days after and I just got full hearing back in time for the gig the following Sunday at Birmingham Theatre where it was billed as The Otis Redding Show and much kinder on the ears.10 years later,I was fortunate to have dinner with Eddie Floyd and we had a wonderful evening reminiscing. As a legacy,I still have the programmes from both gigs as well as as raging Tinnitus-But No Regrets!!!
