Mindful Wing Chun

Mindful Wing Chun

Mindful Wing Chun is one of the biggest Wing Chun school in HK and is located in the Heart of Central. Our mission is to pass on Grandmaster CHU SHONG TIN's 'internal' method of Wing Chun which promotes health through cultivating MINDFULNESS and Deep RELAXATION resulting in a BALANCED Body and Mind.

Chu Shong Tin was one of the first students of Ip Man in Hong Kong. Within a few years of training with Ip Man, he became one of the most Snr and the leading teachers in Ip Mans school as was coined the title 'The King Of Siu Nim Tao' by Ip Man. He taught Wing Chun Full-time for over 60years before he passed away in 2014.

Nima King, our head-instructor, was training under Chu Shong Tin every night from 5pm to 11pm. He continued practicing under him for 9 years until he passed away. Our Instructors have over 50yrs of combined experience and have dedicated their life to practicing and teaching this life-changing internal art of Kung Fu!

    Ipman was a force to be reckoned with but I'm sorry my love came from Bruce lee the way he was intensity with his movement when he had the numbchucks but he realized wings chun wasn't for him but he did keep some of the move he learned from ipman but Bruce didnt really like the style burt then focused more on kung fu Chinese boxing and then made his own style of jeet kune doe. The guy was a living definition of muscle building and training too hard this dude could kick a 180lb punching bag across the wall. Two finger push up one finger push up hundreds of them. The dude commitment was unreal and still isn't touch to this day. Jackee chan will tell you jet li they all show love for Bruce and call him a master.

    After a while I'm here again and I'm amazed what happened with your arms? Why you need so much muscles, I mean Your master and his pals and master Yip didn't need it. And so dark painted! Well I'm scared what kind of spirit lives in such body?😮 You sure it is your master's WChun spirit? Are you sure? Bodybuilding protein powder Wing Chun all over the World! Take me for granted, friend: something is wrong! Something is missing so this is overloaded. Take care man. 🙏

    @Jan-sb2ql haha, my friend, there is nothing wrong with having a strong and fit body and being able to use internal Kung Fu force. Having big muscle doesn't mean you can not relax them. In fact, the stronger the material of the body, the better the vessel it will be to conduct force and energy.

    @@MindfulWingChunWow, good answer, so all is OK it seems. Maybe yes - in Nature it's best to have more weight and muscles. Probably our linage Masters would do the same if it would be possible in their time. What now? Shall I get some powder proteins, I wonder? 😀💪🖐️

  • @MindfulWingChun
    @MindfulWingChun6 күн бұрын

    @Jan-sb2ql haha, yes, make sure to have enough protein. Creatine is also very good for muscle recovery and brain health. It is very cheap and safe also. And for sure, CST was very active physically in his youth. Pull ups, rowing, swimming, hiking, and hours of chisau as well as lots of heavy lifting with the pole. He never did weights. There weren't many gyms in his youth in HK. But he said the same thing as you just did, the stronger the body and the more weight someone has, the more power they will have when using the internals. The problem is when people start lifting weights before they can relax, they tense up their body and make it harder for themselves to relax. Even at my level of control, I am very mindful about the amount of physical exercise, and I never overdo it and ensure that overall, my body is becoming more open and relaxed.

  • @Jan-sb2ql

    @@MindfulWingChunSo you are the master. My sifu also said once: if you have two guys with the same kung fu ability/mastery, the heavier/stronger one will win. And I was thinking: who can defeat a gorilla male? No human. And you are right that building muscles before one can relax in times of full stress, makes things even worse in WChun. But don't forget the SPEED of original Wing Chun. I think it is quite forgotten nowadays. Watching Pak Mei demonstration, I recalled how beasty WChun attack can be. In this case too big body isn't necessary. But if WChun isn't complete, BJJ and MMA is added, along with bodybuilding. So not forget: E=mxC². Speed is essential, more then mass. In real combat, not sport. However, even Yip Man was quite bulky in his best time. 🖐️

    If you want to develop internal power, in a relatively quick period of time, AND, have lightning fast Explosive Power: 1) Unlike this video... Only perform the "Three Prayers to Buddha" section, in Slow Motion (the section that is repeated, 3x in a row). All other movements, should be standard / fast / explosive. Most especially the Punches, Palms, etc. 2) Slow the 3 Prayers section down even slower... than shown here. It should take 30 seconds to go from the Chest, to full Extension... and 30 sec to go back to the chest. At this pace, movement speed will barely be Visible to the eye. It will require far more effort and cause more strain, which increased the development speeds. 3) After you complete the entire form... do not stop, and do not take any breaks... Repeat the entire form, three more times. This will get you the required Minimum time for Qigong development... which is typically ONE FULL HOUR, of Non-Stop form work. Do this every day... or at minimal.. every other day. It should take at least 3 months, before you start to notice the dramatic changes. 4) As you perform the Form... you want long, slow, inhales and exhales... that match the slow movement speeds, of the 3 Prayers Section. When performing fast / explosive movements.. use much quicker and more violent breaths, to match the explosive pace. Keep the mouth relaxed, and slightly opened... making a breath sound, that sounds like a very extended: "Hoe" Sound (your mouth should be slightly round, but still relaxed). You shouldnt be blowing air through tight lips, and through the teeth... like MMA / Sport breathing methods. Also, breath in through the nose, and exhale through the mouth... in most cases. Where the breath is very fast... such as chained punches... just do several quick partial exhales through the mouth... rather than trying to keep using in and out breaths. If you still need to breath in while doing chained punches.. then perform several partial breaths in through the nose, one after the other... until your lungs are completely full. When doing the most POWERFUL of strikes... exhale as much air as possible, all at one time. The constant slow breaths for the 3 Prayers section, is critical for developing superior Circulation channels in your tissues. This is part of the Qigong development. The Fast breaths for the quicker movements... are more for the proper precision timings, and can allow you to have far more Output Power potentials. 5) Start out, by doing the form, in front of a full length mirror. Make sure that all of your limbs are in the correct positions, and alignments, at all times. You may also wish to alternate so that you are standing sideways... so that you can see other alignment lines. Make sure that your wristbone, has a perfect straight line, in all vectors. After 2 to 3 months time, you may feel that you are so aware of your positions... that you no longer need to use the mirror. At that time... close your eyes for a while... and randomly open them.. to check on your alignments. If you have gone out of alignment too often... go back to using the mirror again. Alternate your eyes open/closed, until you can perform without any positional errors. Then you can do the form, without any mirrors from that point onwards. 6) Make sure your knees are bent so that your knees are directly over the top of you toes. If your knees are not deeply bent, and you do not remain at that depth the entire form... then you are not doing things correctly... and or have not developed the proper strength + tendon strength. 7) When doing slow motion training... you want to relax your entire body / muscles.. to the point where if you were any more relaxed.. that you would fall to the floor like a lump of Jello. You want Just enough muscle, to keep your body upright. This minimal amount of muscle forces... will cause 10x more strain on your Joints / Tendons, tissues, and bone structures. One of the main keys, is to develop super-tendons. Tendons that are very flexible, but also, much denser and stronger. This will give you a whole other level of "Strength", as well as a whole other level of Spring-Like abilities. These instructions are also the same, for performing Tai Chi forms. Realize that Wing Chun borrowed from the highest level arts technologies of its Era... and this is why Tai Chi Push Hands, is very Similar to Chi Sao. And why there is a slow motion part... in the first form of WC. 8) When you can perform the entire 1hr long set, without any fatigue / shaking at all... you might choose to tie a bottle of liquid to your wrists... for an added weight challenge. However, if can barely keep your arms up... and you start to raise your shoulders, and tighten your muscles to try to maintain a perfectly leveled line... then you should remove the bottle immediately... and try again some other time, when you are stronger, and more capable. 9) Try to practice when Its fairly Quiet. This will help in keeping your mind very focuses on every little sensation, and positional awareness. 10) Take in a good deal of Calcium.. using milk or almond milk... or maybe gummy supplements. Add in a daily gummy multi-vitamin. And eat fairly healthy, to get as many nutrients as possible into your system... for better and faster developments. Also, try to get a full 8 hrs of Deep Sleep in. Make sure the sleep is as restful as possible. As too many sounds while you are sleeping... can bring you up to a sleep state that is not deep enough for performing repairs. I think thats more than enough, to get people to a much higher level of potentials. Now its just up to you, to put in the required regular efforts.

    @S.N.T.247 not for every movement. And that would not be possible against a live opponent who is moving around with fast footwork, and to commit to always touching their legs, would result on committing to that and focusing on their leg rather than their center. Rather than leg locking, kicking would be the way to go in a real situation, again because the opponent wouldn't be standing still like a dummy and no matter how fast someone can step forward it would never be faster than the opponent moving their leg. So the leg lock technique is just that, a potential technique or position, and one should not commit to it in every movement as there are many more internal things to develop to control the opponent

    The hope is to continue to get the word out so that those who have not been exposed to this fundamental aspect of Wing Chun have the chance to adopt it. At my seminars in Germany, I get dozens of teachers from other lineages, some of which who have been doing Wing Chun for 4+ decades, and they are always amazed at the fact that they were never exposed to this aspect of the art. My hats off and full respect ro them though, as they must really love the art and have their egos in check enough to attend a seminar to learn after having been a teacher for decades. Unfortunately, the politics in some Wing Chun schools is that the teacher forbids the students from venturing out and learning from other teachers. This is why the online school has been great as people can get access to the information without 'getting in trouble' 😅

    I think the biggest difference is that martial arts focuses on developing the tendons and lean muscles to support the tendons along side the mind and body connection(muscular and skeletal control) while developing the internal organs. This difference accounts for the difference in physiology you witness. You will see it’s all the same for special ops training. They train for overall functional performance to generate speed power accuracy and endurance by building an energy efficient vehicle. From my examination of wing chun. It does the same yet it has been reduced to an incomplete art form. With too much focus on the forms and not enough physical training to work with the forms. As well as the lack of understanding of the combat mechanics of the art form to begin with. The concept behind wing chun, which is supposed to make it exceptional if practiced correctly and the theory understood. Is essentially a biomechanics that requires less time space and energy to accomplish a task. In terms of combat how to utilize and condition the body and mind to perform while using less energy,space and time. It is essentially quick wrestling. The concept can be seen in the art of war. A good fighter excels at winning with ease. That’s the whole goal of a wing chun practitioner. How do you do that? Use less time less energy less space. If you want to wrestle someone down. Do you grab them and try to pull them down with your body weight and power? Or do you break his structure allowing him to stay up right by pushing the back of their knees forward n giving a slight push forward? If they manage to stop themselves from falling flat with their arms, do you then push them or simply clear one of their hands using your feet. Or use a less efficient route of using your hands to pull their feet? This example is to show the philosophy behind the art. Which birth the ideology of jest kwon do. Which from my understanding was Bruce lee’s understanding of the art form. It’s not a style or techniques it’s a concept/ little idea as the name implies.

  • @MindfulWingChun
    @MindfulWingChun25 күн бұрын

    @Grenader_5_56X45 yes, there is never a direct resistance of force. In addition to what you said above, the contact point (I.e. the point where your forearm contacts with your opponent's) is always a fulcrum point. This is due to the nature of the joints of the human body. Ball, hinge and pivot joints will always create round forces in the bones that attach to them, meaning the shoulder creates a round force in the upper arm bone and the elbow joint creates a round force in the forearm. So the force is never flat-pressing at the point of contact if the joints are utilized correctly.
