    The point is fact is fact. Kids need to be taught a small stride pushing forward. Kids will slowly develop with a push the proper release point. You work with them where they are at until they integrate all that movement.

    Does throwing off a mound increase stride length vs not throwing off a mound? I don't have mound to practice on so I am wondering if throwing off flat ground is shortening my stride.

    Dude your a idiot of course the grup is going to change the way the ball rotates im a freshman in high school and I know that so your setting your pitch up to fail. Look at the majors they don't change there arm at all on there different pitches all they change is the grip. Your teaching kids to get themselves hurt with a tommy john and I'm surprised your program has not been shut down you need to be teaching kids proper form and telling them the truth because you know damn well that the grip is all that needs to be changed. You could be sued if a kid gets hurt and its not going to be cheap

    My cousin is also a D1 pitcher and I showed him this and he said almost everything you said was incorrect. I know this was from. 7 years ago but I sure hope you change your words and pitching skills otherwise you might not be able to run your academy if you keep posting false info to a young audience everyone keep your arm the same the only thing that changes is your grip look at MLB pitchers they don't change there arm at all the only thing that changes with them is there grip they release at the same point every time as well.

    I throw a knuckle curve at 75 mph then will throw a 2/8 curve at 82. It’s quite effective. And anyone throwing a knuckle curve, it is better to throw the pitch at 75% arm speed

    This video is completely wrong. He's not describing a Knuckle Curve. He's describing a curve ball with your knuckle up. Two completely different things. A Knuckle Curve you put two fingernails (the index and middle finger knuckles) on the top seam. The ring finger goes along the side seam. When you throw, you snap the index and middle fingers over the top of the ball and you pull down with the ring finger like a curve ball. The result is a sharp downward break. Some pitchers also throw this pitch with one knuckle (index finger) and then replace the ring finger with the middle finger. Check out how Tyler Green formerly of the Phillies would throw a knuckle curve For an over exaggeration of what it should look like, snap a ping pong ball with your knuckles and watch how quickly the ball snaps downward

    He was saying the knuckle ball variation the kid was using wasn't changing the rotation of the pitch and its about how you release it and that its all in the wrist. He also said, you can throw a curve and change up with a fastball grip, he isn't wrong. He isn't saying the fundamental way to grip a knuckle curve doesn't matter or doesn't help. That's what makes pitches like the knuckleball a knuckle ball. Again, He was talking about the variation not adding anything significant that specific the pitch and that you can throw a curve and change up with a fastball grip cuz its all in the position of where you hold the ball and the wrist. A grip and using the same grip and holding the ball at the curveball position are 2 diff things. He was explaining the latter of those 2.. Yal obviously don't know much about baseball. You guys act like he is saying you can throw a knuckle ball with a fastball grip, he isn't even close to saying ANYTHING like that. Why don't you guys in the comments listen better next time and not talk shiit cuz you sound ignorant

    What he is saying is that grip doesn’t change how the ball spins... which is completely wrong. I experiment with grips and my sinker, slider and fastball all spin and move differently according to grip

    Now suppose I were Tom Seaver, and I have a great curve, and the batter is Pete Rose - a power hitter. I visualize that I cannot throw a center-cut fast ball a little bit down - Pete will 100 percent of the time hit it out of the park. So I think of a visualizing doing a slow curve to fool Rose into swinging and then missing. I would pitch like a fast ball and at the last flick - the end of the pitch as I release the ball, I visualize that I must do the flick towards the L (since I would be a R-handed pitcher) to create the topspin needed to create the curve ball, and then Rose would swing it and most likely miss it - it would be almost like a straight change - this slow curve ball. If Rose does hit it it will go foul to some opposite field. Now if I have a count of 3-2, I am thinking that I will visualize switching to the fast ball but make it rise high above Rose's neckline as he tries to swing it. And he would then swing AND HE MISSES IT - STRIKE 3! As for me, this equal - SUCCESS!!

    Most kids at the age of 8 or 9 are just learning to pitch and don't even have good mechanics for their fastball let alone a curve ball all the people that said no where just trying to tell you that an 8 year old clearly won't have the strength to throw a good curve ball

  • @shankster0170

    So the knuckle ball grip has nothing to do with the ball movement, so what ur saying is that you can throw the knuckle with a fastball grip 😂

    I think what shankster meant is that when he said that the grip doesn’t affect the way the ball spins, you throw a knuckleball just like a fast ball yet due to the grip it spins (or doesn’t really)

    This is my moms account ...but anyway I used this pitch in my travel tournament and struck out 3 people each inning with all strikeouts

  • @avjamie82
    @avjamie827 жыл бұрын

    My 9 yr old has been playing travel ball in CA for two years, weighs 100 pounds, is tall, and has a strong arm. He's mechanically solid and I taught him a curve/change and it's highly effective. He probably throws it 4-5 times in 3 innings and it's only against the opposing teams best hitter. Stop babying the kids and let them play the freaking game. Stop raising a bunch of pussies. A fast ball is going to get hammered if you throw it all the time because the better hitters will time the ball. My kid throws in the low 50's and gets lit up like a Christmas tree if he doesn't change speeds and locations. He can't palm the ball because his hand is too small. Forget the circle change because he can't grip it. He's able to grip his pointer and middle fingers on the seam and snap the pitch upon release. it's not Clayton Kershaw's curve but it's about 10 mph slower and spins a little which is all he needs to keep batters off balance. He just pitched 4 innings and struck out 11 and only threw the curve/change 4 times. All you babysitters out there who claim this will "harm" the boys can watch your sons walk their pansy asses back to their dugouts after getting fanned. "Your son's arm will be shot by high school!!!" Why do you care? Your son will be running cross country on the JV team. Don't worry about my son because I don't worry about YOURS.

    Jamie S dude your saying a fastball will get hammered how about a slow lob over the plate that a 9 year old calls a curveball plus blowing out your arm when your in highschool isn't uncommon with kids that over did it at a young age and if what you say is true about how strong your kid is I'd still recommend him to ice his arm after every game

  • @nick11201119
    @nick112011197 жыл бұрын

    I have to disagree with you that they are the same pitch but different grips... I have thrown both a knuckle curve and traditional curve that were clocked at relatively the same speed, maybe 2-3 mph difference. The pitches are very similar, but my knuckle curve broke significantly later than the traditional curve. I am a junk pitcher and have found more success using a knuckle curve because it is incredibly difficult to make contact with and I have repeatedly made D1 recruits look uncomfortable at the plate. Than with my traditional curve which broke earlier and would get contact from mediocre hitters. In addition, if you are trying to master the knuckle curve try and add in a circle change and two seam fastball. Both tail towards the outside of the zone and are great at making hitters off balance due to the ball path out of the hand. If you master both these pitches you will be successful in high school ball or some college.

  • @M0l13Nm3t4L
    @M0l13Nm3t4L7 жыл бұрын

    A tutorial for Tommy John.... coming around your slider like that is going to damage your arm. You dominate the front side of your curveball, come over the top and finish down. slider is fastball through the arm circle, the only difference is the grip, and when you release the baseball your wrist is going to flick in towards your body, NOT THE ARM. The arm circle should not vary.
