Should I consider buying stocks at this time, or should I await another opportunity?

    How much do you put into your IRA if you do have one?

  • @ClarencePatrick
    @ClarencePatrick8 күн бұрын

    I’m not eligible to contribute to a traditional IRA, so I invest in my company’s Roth 401k. I invest 10% of my income into that particular account. I also have a personal investment account that I contribute to on a monthly basis as well.

  • @jandabest5261
    @jandabest52618 күн бұрын

    @@ClarencePatrick, you’re ineligible to contribute to a traditional IRA? I thought the only requirement was earned income. I know there are income limits for the Roth IRA, but I use the backdoor method to convert it.

  • @ClarencePatrick
    @ClarencePatrick8 күн бұрын

    My income exceeds the maximum amount allowed in order to participate in the program. My company doesn’t offer a backdoor Roth, so I contribute into the Roth 401k, which is fine because I also like to invest in my personal brokerage account, which allows me to access funds whenever an investment opportunity arises.

  • @jandabest5261
    @jandabest52618 күн бұрын

    @@ClarencePatrick , my income also exceeds the limit, but an IRA account is outside of your employer. You open it through a brokerage like Vanguard, Fidelity, Schwab, etc. It’s a tax-advantaged account you can have in addition to your employer-sponsored 401K…this is tax code, so your employer doesn’t get a vote. I personally have a 401K, IRA, and HSA…all tax-advantaged. I max out all three. And, because I have a lot of discretionary income after maxing these accounts, I have a taxable brokerage account, which does not have contribution limits so I invest as much per month as I want.

    I have been investing 5 dollars a day in voo, schd and nvdia (qqq for about a month or so too) since December 23. Im at about 3400 total invested and im up to about 4150 since i started. I also increased nvdia to 10 dollars a day once they announced the split. It split 10 to 1 which brought it from about 1200 per share to 120 per share. That being said, since the split, it's up to 130 per share. I ended up with 10 shares on thre split on the 10th. So in there past 3 days, I'm already up an additional 100 dollars. Im 34.... the only thing i regret is not starting when i was younger lol. I preach day in and day out to young people to download an investing app and just start putting 100 a check in and do the 5 dollar a day challenge.

    I agree with you, it's somewhat predatory. Unfortunately you need to start building your credit history so you can get loans for things like a car, apartment, house, etc. The big ticket things that contribute to your FICO score and give you favorable rates later in life. Young adults need to be educated that a credit card, if you use it that young, should be to pay for things you can already afford to pay down in that month.

  • @ClarencePatrick
    @ClarencePatrick5 ай бұрын

    I think a more effective approach would be for the parent to add their child as an authorized user on their credit card account. They could put a spending limit of $100 for example and this would allow them to increase their credit score while they’re young. This is of course assuming that the parent is credit worthy and is able to add their child as a user.

  • @conundrum2u
