Thanks for sharing, great job!
Question.. step flashing against a stucco wall 🤷♂️
I bet on the back of the chimney the drip edge is under the flashing instead of over
I had to do an emergency repair and I slathered tar all around the flashing... How screwed am I? I figured if there was no where for water to go I'd be fine but I didn't have a clue how shingles actually worked 😅
You probably impeded the flow of water, possibly causing it to dam up and leak more. Less roofing cement is better, applied surgically
@@josephgaetano6751 I figured. I called a couple of roofing companies and none offered repairs, only a new roof. I have extra shingles the last roofing company left. Maybe when it cools down I'll do it right. There was only one nail in the flashing and I could pull it out with my finger. Looked like the wind had grabbed hold of it one too many times and I couldn't get the flashing to seat flat.
Doesn't look bad for diy but for a professional,,,,,yeah
Or use a flash right they should've got a new roof than the siding
It's just a piss poor installation. Regardless of the substandard flashing, with a valley that close, we would have slathered that in grace.
Funny. The guy bags on Tamko then proceeds to show a bad installation by a contractor. Installation is the key. Sure, they aren’t Mercedes shingles. But they will hold up fine if installed correctly
Forget the fact its completely done wrong i always wondered if they're taught that in hvac school
Out here in Southern Texas and the squirrels chew these lead boots all day
Looking for advice on how to go about replacing a roof section by section. Like to get confirmed if starting at the bottom of a section is good. I dont have a long term time limit, i just only have about 3 hours each week for the forseeable future.
Any chance could get a video on advanced cuts and problem solving? Ive got a roof with 4 different situations, single layers, triple layers, all sorts of loose and silly fitted shingles.
What keeps the top ridge down, glue? Didn’t see any nails being put in to hold it down.
You brought out not just one but many things to watch for, thanks. You can tell you’re very knowledgeable. Thanks for sharing.
Is that plastic strip supposed to be removed during installation?
You couldn't have taken the piece of soffit out it was already missing one and why piece the wall in start from the wall and work out
Watching from Drtroit, Michigan
Thanks My daughter has a leak around a vent and after watching your content I’m going to get on it tomorrow.
Thank you for your information! How far apart should these h clips be.
Valley hood, perfect!
Be the raindrop. Where do you go? 😮
Brilliant explanation!
Only thing we use is TitanXT ….I wouldn’t bash Tamko….every manufacturer has an economical line & a pro line
Viewing from Portland, Oregon, sir. We've bought a house with an EoL roof and lots of work to do on it. Main roof will get replaced in a few years but I need to patch a few spots before then.
Where does one get the flat pieces of sheet metal with which he made the counterflashing? I checked Home Depot and Lowes today, and they only had rolls of sheet metal.
@justinmegna4278 It's a 24" x 50' long roll of aluminum. You can get it at most roofing supply stores.
Ohagin low profile vents, im using 1 for intake placed at lower part of roof , and 1 for exhaust on the top by the ridge. My question: should i place the intake where i get the wind blowing that way intake sucks all the air in, should i place exhaust opposite side of roof? Or should both be on same side? If same side wouldnt the air blow into the exhaust vent ?
Damn. That one is has a lotta problems.. How would you recommend I find a quality contractor in Alabama? Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing! Good advice! Seems logical! New sub here!🍿
" Hey Rocky ! Watch me do this stop leak with one hand tied behind my phone " tHanks for the video!!!
Hi! Do you have any recommendation for a roofing caulk that can withstand Texas heat for recaulking exposed nail heads and reseal windblown shingles and its surrounding shingles. Thanks!
Good stuff man keep it up
I would 100% refuse to take this on as a repair. More labor to save then its worth.
How to flash a dormer where ice dams are likely. I live in a cold climate in an old house where it would be impossible to stop ice dams.
ice and water should run up the wall at least 4 inches and should adhere directly on to decking, don’t nail in your seams or the bottoms of your step flashings, get the bigger size 4”x4”x8”step flashings , it all depends on the situation you’re that will dictate how you go about flashing certain points on a roof, this guys videos are always good to learn on since he also gets snow and ice dams in the winter
Those maIL advertisements are by shell companies that hire out of town, unscrupulous contractors, and charge extra overhead for the fact of sending you a piece of paper in the mail
love the tamko roofing shoutout
love watching you man, I own a company in Arkansas. Couldn't agree more on quality of work that preach.
I'd be suspicious of that nail high on the end wall flashing (left dormer), often times missing decking and likely under lying shingles don't get that high either.
WV USA
I generally always like your videos.
There whole community used the same style rough, same color, same everything. Came back sealed those visible nails and moved on. Probably a common practice. Job done. To the amateur job done. To the picky inspector live with it. There not going to rip up that roof, and get a refund, unless there's a gaint hole with water flushing through it.
Those shingles were a nightmare on our low pitch roofs in Florida when they came out..
What about the gap between the bottom wall flashing and the side wall flashing?
"Functionality trumps cosmetics" !! More people need to think this way!!
One of my big pet peeves when I used to do residential work, was that people would always choose form over function, and I'm not wired that way, I want it to work well, and if it looks plain, so be it
I'm going to be redoing flashing & siding around 2 dormers soon, so thanks for this tip set.
I have the same problems. Thanks for the info!
Damm that great I just order one after my roofing guy came to inspect my roof and he showed it to me. I have a 10/12 picture and it's steep but not that steep I just wanted some thing to use so I do not have to rock-harnes safety my self to the roof to paint my dormers trim.
Great Video1 Thanks Grand Roofing Inc!!
Hi, Brian! I wish you could have shown me how to caulk the underside. I have the same problem but my gap is bigger. Can you put A LOT of caulk underneath or does something else have to be done to reposition everything? Your videos are great/very informative!
Katy, Texas
Thanks for the videos. I inspected my roof and found many low placed nails, some very low and exposed. Pulled them on sealed them. I also just finished about a 30 sq ft repair, I used your videos as a guide. Took me 3 days to search for the leaks, repair some sketchy looking sheathing and reroof it. I learned roofers have a tough job, the heat, steep slopes, back breaking work. I think I'll hire it out next time, but I've had bad luck in the past with a place called Guardian Roofing in Auburn Washington - they used wrong size chimney flashing and left a massive hole in the roof. Took them 3 trips out to fix it properly and I had to go buy the proper size flashing.
