    Hi Eric, I'm looking to get the Berkley X9 #50 braid for my deep drop rod (because its the thinnest #50 braid I have been able to find .030mm) do you have a color recommendation - green vs. white? Pros Cons?

  • @ThumpemupFishingchannel
    @ThumpemupFishingchannelАй бұрын

    I don’t have a color preference other than indicator braid for jigging when using a conventional or spinning reel…. Maybe others can chime in. One thing to consider is that the white is a little easier to see at night.

  • @ThumpemupFishingchannel
    @ThumpemupFishingchannelАй бұрын

    They have gear in the boat for normal bottom fishing and chunking for tuna. Additionally Matt seems to have a few extra combos for popping. I am not sure if he has extra deep drop rods but those are special requests and the people that book those trips all have it. If you get on one they would typically share. If you are interested email me at [email protected] I will do a trip every quarter based on what’s biting.

    Hi Eric, Jason from DFW here. My friends and I were wanting to ask: What’s something you would say or give advice to anyone that is just starting to fish? Whether if they want to do it casually or strive to be compete in it one day.

  • @ThumpemupFishingchannel
    @ThumpemupFishingchannel2 ай бұрын

    Hey Jason, fishing is not a one size fits all sport, there are as many ways to fish as there are fish! Beginner’s will have a dinner experience pursuing fish that are easier and more plentiful to catch (e.g. trout or sandbass vs largemouth). Keep it simple and fun first then expand out to more complicated species and techniques. Many fisher people are more than willing to help out new anglers so don’t be afraid to ask for help!

    Is a five foot eight inch rod good for that

  • @ThumpemupFishingchannel
    @ThumpemupFishingchannel2 ай бұрын

    I use a short rod for jigging vs. a longer rod…. For casting I use a 7 1/2’ plus rod, for jigging normally 6’ or less. Chunking I normally just use a jigging rod. I recommend a rod stout enough to put the heat on a tuna, don’t go with a lite rod or you will have a prolonged fight and a higher potential to lose a big fish!

    Yes it’s just a 2 loop dropper rig or chicken rig. You can also Carolina rig them. Key is to use salmon egg hooks so the bait will float above the grass that’s in many of these lakes!

    Does each fisherman catch each species or are certain spots on the boat harder to catch fish? Does anyone sleep or just go all out for 30hours? Im thinking of bringing my 15yr old son??? Recommended or Not??? Thanks for making the video

  • @ThumpemupFishingchannel
    @ThumpemupFishingchannel4 ай бұрын

    1. The captain and crew will tell you the target species and the best way to catch them. Normally it’s squid for red snapper, vermillion snapper and whatever else bites. It may be freelining for kingfish etc. I normally catch pinfish for grouper and drop that first then switch if that doesn’t work. Tuna fishing uses poppers, swimbaits, chunk or jigs. Ask the deckhands and they will tell you. Best time to sleep is when the boat is moving from spot to spot. I normally don’t get much sleep! Bring your son but make sure he has a patch or something to prevent sea sickness. That is the worst experience!
