I found a guide that explained every compatible upgrade you could put in this thing as well as detailed instructions for additional hard mods you could do if you had the skills that could stretch the upgrades even further and I now have one that has performance pairing with something high end from 2017-18. Windows 10 with a mod that enables me to to install and use WMC STILL. My wife still uses it for the most basic of pc uses such as shopping , paying bills, general web browsin, Word, etc. it’s great.

The are quite a few of these around for sale. £200 -£300 could get you a good one. Easy to use and reasonable quality. gumtree or facebook marketplace for local pickup.

Hi, I no longer have the laptop. It's a lovely piece of kit but I was not using it, I had managed to save it it from being thrown away and needed to make way for other interesting pieces of equipment. Currently I am working on some reel to reel equipment.

I have the same system but with radio tuner and cd player,i connect everything including my record deck and Bluetooth receiver via a small tube amp that softens and warms everything before going through the amp into mission speaker's,had it from new from Dixons,good bit of kit and too loud 😊

Hey there man I just picked one up and it’s having an issue the left side meter it peaking high and right is normal. When I plug headphones or speakers I hear loud distorted noise with no actual music playing, I need help.

Can this be used as another monitor? Like if I connect it to my Samsung Galaxy laptop using the USB C to USB C it only seems to duplicate the screen rather than extend it? I'd like to open something on the laptop and be able to drag it over to this and then have something else open on my laptop screen.

I have not used it on on win 11. using F8 on win 10 allows selection or display settings . nothing on the screen needs changing again.

I personally think that 20inch at 16:10 is still a very compelling size especially with how thin laptop bezel had become and you don't need to make laptop too thick to hold that kind of screen and top tier spec to ran it.

I have the same beautifull thing and after alot of strugling: Windows 10 will not go well in this machine. Not a chance (Because not matter what you do the sistem will install microsoft drivers for graphics...and they are the responsable for crashes after a few minutes). The only solution (And it work very well) is going with Windows 8.1...Install certain older version of graphics (I look for it and post it here) and also a program to disable aero transparencys. Avoiding the Windows driver (In windows 8 it is easier because you are able to indicate to hide that driver). Also an SSD is a must. Actually a very fast machine, way better than alot of chip range 2022 laptops...

Connect it to the television to use it closed, even when watching Stremio, Netflix, etc. Do you believe that it is capable of delivering good videos by streaming? It has little capacity but I still prefer a notebook than the Fires Sticks. What do you think ?

i bought this in 2008 .... i used powerISO virtual drive to put windows 10 on it a decade ago .....yes it makes the machine run slow and if you try to do to much it will crash but it runs ....my battery will last less than a min just enough time to switch rooms or something ....still a beast and im using it from the HDMI remote batt is dead....i just cant get rid of it .... just like my big poweregg drone that i bought from powervision when it first came out....both is just to look at now

this came out in 2008 .....and if you upgrade windows software ....yes it will lag and crash and get hot....it ran perfect wayy back then

Thanks, I use it regularly and it is still working well. I always use it with the USB C connector and not the HDMI or power connector so cannot comment on those. It has been in my laptop bag since purchase so has been moved, jolted and generally shaken every day. Cover is showing some minor signs of use (the odd scrape) but nothing bad. It has been a good purchase.

I have one of these, it's a cracking machine, exceptional sound quality. I also had the problem with the playback cam crumbling away, luckily I had another machine, the 4000D, which I used for spares. If the tapes weren't so hard to get and expensive I would still be using it. Digital recording just doesn't come close.

Tapes are a bit expensive and some are now crumbling but as a hobby probably worth it. Shame you had to use another machine for spares. 3D printing may well save these machines as all 4 cams can fail :-(

I got one off Ebay for $100. Seriously, $100. Been working the better part of the past month restoring it. Physically its got a few hunks taken out of the bottom chassis which I can replace, but for now I'm trying to max out the hardware (reasonably speaking).

I still have one of those laptops and it performs still very well with Windows Vista. I use it regularly to view my photos. I wish HP would release another beast like this. I just love it!

They are great. I think Vista screens were more attractive than later OS's. It works well on vista and runs well under win 10 but I did not see if I could run the remote etc.

I think it was developed to run perfectly with Vista. I was thinking about upgrading to another version of Windows but everything's still working so smooth that I don't want to make any changes to it. You had the ones with an ATI graphics card and the ones with an NVIDEA one. Mine has the NVIDEA card and I managed to pick up an original HP battery for it. I think they called that laptop the Dragon. Great to watch photos and make adjustments. Those were the days. My first laptop was an Acer. I still have it. Was way before the Internet and has Windows 95 on it. It still works but is rather slow. One for the museum... :) It was very affordable in those days when laptops were very expensive.

Any problems with your new monitor? I'm thinking of buying one, but many reviews lament about dead pixels and technical issues.
Hi, the first one I bought had a dead pixel so returned to Amazon. No issue at all. Second one, I have had no problems at all. My sample though is only 1 purchase and 2 monitors

I got one off Ebay for $100. Seriously, $100. Been working the better part of the past month restoring it. Physically its got a few hunks taken out of the bottom chassis which I can replace, but for now I'm trying to max out the hardware (reasonably speaking).
I must have been lucky as mine is in almost perfect condition and the battery works very well too.
I did have to buy a proper power supply though as the one it had was way too small. It was getting seriously hot.
It came with a huge poster explaining all the connectors, etc.
I still have one of those laptops and it performs still very well with Windows Vista. I use it regularly to view my photos. I wish HP would release another beast like this. I just love it!
They are great. I think Vista screens were more attractive than later OS's. It works well on vista and runs well under win 10 but I did not see if I could run the remote etc.
I think it was developed to run perfectly with Vista. I was thinking about upgrading to another version of Windows but everything's still working so smooth that I don't want to make any changes to it. You had the ones with an ATI graphics card and the ones with an NVIDEA one. Mine has the NVIDEA card and I managed to pick up an original HP battery for it. I think they called that laptop the Dragon. Great to watch photos and make adjustments. Those were the days. My first laptop was an Acer. I still have it. Was way before the Internet and has Windows 95 on it. It still works but is rather slow. One for the museum... :) It was very affordable in those days when laptops were very expensive.
@sweetmamma31 Hello Friend, how are you? I am convinced to buy one of this model for a multimedia center. Connect it to the television to use it closed, even when watching Stremio, Netflix, etc. Do you believe that it is capable of delivering good videos by streaming? It has little capacity but I still prefer a notebook than the Fires Sticks. What do you think ?
