Hey, thanks for video, question, did you need to plug in the wire hardness that is n the back of the cradle? Or is it powered just by clicking in like you did in the video?

Only reason I'm not going with the Casio is cause I hate the look of the display. If I'm going to get a smart watch it needs to be color. Which is why I got the Samsung. Personal preference. Once Casio goes full color, I'll be buying one

Reviewer nailed this review. This year's model seems to address some of the issues.

The g shock series aren't as "tactical" as people think lol. They are clunky and too big to be "tactical" people in action or who do physical work prefer a small device that doesn't get caught on anything

I use my GBD H1000 in Airplane mode mostly, only when trekking on the weekends outside I use GPS, otherwise I use it on Gym (3 times a week) indoors so no need for GPS. And I just connect with phone once a week to download my activities to phone... And battery nowdays without sun actually, can last a month without loading! I just put hard glass (for 1.5 $...) on a screen as it is not sapphire! And now this watch is user proof 😁

Few more points: Watch LIFE of Casio is 20 to 35 years where Garmin is 5 to 8 years. BATTERY LIFE of Casio is 10 to 15 years where Garmin is 3 to 5 years.

Think your review is based more on an urban usage than a camping/hiking usage. In rural Minnesota most of our state parks and hiking trails have very spotty to no cell reception at all, or very dependant on which cell carrier you have, so notifications are completely irrelevant, and stand alone GPS capability (no phone) would be more helpful.... I.E. my Casio protreck has downloadable maps for when offline.

Why buy a watch centred around outdoor activities and fitness tracking and complain about the notification system. I ALWAYS turn that crap off. You have a phone for that. Disconnect and be free from the phone!

Ever since the introduction of smart watches, I've waited for G-shock to put one out. Don't need to worry about messages, I have no friends so win-win....wait.

Casio Pro Trek watch can use onboard maps. Rangeman has GPS but does not have maps- need to use the phone with the G-Shock app. But if you are carrying a phone, Google maps has the downloadable off line maps feature which works well with GPS.

would love to hear your experience on battery life between them: battery drain during a run, daily usage without notifications/hr sensor. Are either of them drastically off on any data points?

You are complaining about messages on your phone to your watch? That's what the phone is for. You sir are spoiled. A watch is to tell time the 9 button press is a minor flaw. Don't blame Casio because you are impatient.

Nice and honest reviews. It's sad that many people wont tell the absolute truth during presentation and we know why. You pointed few things than no one knows untill buy it. I will never buy this Casio compared to Garmin, seriously.

The casio watch looks great but the interface sucks as well as the price it doesnt justify it. If they bring down the price on this i would buy it but at 399 i rather have a better software experience.

This comparison is not fair. Fenix 6X pro must be compared vs Casio GSW-H1000. Casio GBD competitor must be Garmin Instinct Solar. This video is misleading.

Using that watch in tandem will the app will allow you to get rid of any of those things that you don’t want to look at to get a notification so you can change the order in which they display & eliminate the amount functions screens you want to see when talking that button.

I've had Fenix 6 pro for 2 years. Agreed on the casio great look! Love the way it looks but having prime music on my Fenix is great. I grab my bose Bluetooth sportbuds and take off on runs. Also, garmin pay works great. Works almost everywhere w/o needing my wallet. I get about 6 days battery. This includes a few runs with GPS and music playing I'm researching the casio tho. Thinking of picking one up. Not to replace my Fenix, but wear it more for looks.

Simply put: Garmin is extremely software-centric. Casio is extremely hardware-centric. that's how I view the two brands. I have been a long time Casio user, and last year I got introduced to a Garmin (instinct solar). My immediate response was: "Okay I want my Garmin Instinct in a Mudmaster form factor!"

did Casio ever update the messaging feature, or is it still the vanilla version? I ask because the watch is still very expensive and I resides in my que on Amazon, but because of the clunky messaging interface, I still have not pulled the trigger.
