    copper oxide and tin oxide. The rim and foot are white from the tin as an opacifier.

  • @LeonardSmithpotter
    @LeonardSmithpotter22 күн бұрын

    Not enough tin in the glaze to opacify it, the white is due to the glaze being too thin on the edge for the optical effect of the copper to turn the glaze red.

    @@LeonardSmithpotter Yes, almost every CU red piece with a rim, that I have seen, has the thin edge and so is white/clear.

    Fascinating discussion. As a boat refugee who left VN in 1981 at the age of 14 without parents, I was placed in the foster care system. I was conflicted growing up between the two cultures for many years somewhat losing my Vietnamese identity heritage. The Vietnamese people will see me like a banana- yellow on the outside but white inside. I did feel a sense of not belonging in the main American culture, especially when being around the good old boys' clubs where the predominant people are not Asian. I am glad to see that Viet can articulate this kind of sentiment so clearly.

    The history of Korea is fake. This is a fact. Goguryo, Baekje, Silla. The ancient Korean Peninsula 朝鮮半島(name of Chinese city 朝鮮) has been a Chinese territory since ancient times (over 2000 years). This is a huge Chinese historical proof. A large number of ancient Chinese tombs and cultural relics were unearthed on the peninsula. All of the stone monuments were all Chinese characters 漢字 (the names and workers of ancient Chinese construction workers were engraved on the city. ) And a large number of Chinese murals and products in Korean penunsula. Chinese characters漢字 are using classical Chinese characters 文言文 and Chinese -unique items (and Han dialect漢族方言). At the same time, the cultural relics of the ancient "White clothing Ethnic 白衣民族"(today Korean ancestors) unearthed at the southern end of the peninsula are all things and living tools of the primitive era. The ancient Chinese live on the Korean Peninsula for at least 2,000 years. The founding of Korea (today korean name : 韓國) for more than 70 years. Korean women 70 years ago were still exposing the nipples (traditional Hanbok style) and moving any things with their heads. In 2010, they still saw this culture exists in North Korea.

    *The Yemenite people would like express a great deal of gratitude to the Smithsonian for helping to preserve - even if in small way - their ancient cultural heritage and showcasing it to the world in a very honorable manner. You are indeed the vanguards of human civilizations and world history. 🥇🏆🏅❤*

    It's certainly not easy being Buddhist in the US, especially if you're non-Asian. Even Asian American Buddhists get a lot of flak if they're a minority in the community. There are much worse countries to practice, but we still have a long way to go.
