The Chinese companies never build those apartment buildings with their own money. They already collected it from customers. Most of the customers are rich people that they already have more than one place to live. This is just their investment. The house prices have keep rising for the last 30 years hence you know why they do this kind of investment. Those companies don't care if the buildings will be empty or not, it can earn money from building them. It has little to do with national policy. It is just an investment game.

I've been to Thames Town a few times since 2019. I go there for camping and kayaking since there's a big lake with several crisscrossing canals. Honestly it was quite busy and alive every time I've been there. It's like 30 kilometers from downtown. you can go there taking the subway or just in a cab. the church is a popular spot for couples to take photos.

The funny part is that everybody looks at China as a communist country (rightfully so) but the perception of them ‘not being free’ vs ‘freedom’ is a total lie. as a 30-year-old male with a good job in America, I would rather live in China. You’re going to make a comment about second children and all that, but don’t ignore the fact that our government is making women not be able to get rid of a child which is actually worse. You have a choice to conceive, but if you’re assaulted, you’re kind of stuck with that. This country holds no accountability and we are dead broke, I live in a city that a federal reserve is located in and this ghost city seems FAR financially superior and even well kept.
