    I don't understand why the swinger indicator is set up differently to carp fishing? Does it offer less resistence than a light bobbin? Can I use my bobbin indicators in front of the reel as for carp, and put the line in the rod line clip? Also, is the bait just bottom lip hooked? Thanks.

    \been fishing a large pit for Tench, One of the guys has been having luck on maggots in a feeder, But as much as Iv`e tried I can`t get one. They`ve been fizzing around the bait but not taking the hook, Which is a maggot kebab on a 10. Praps I should use worm. I have been using hemp and hali ground bait as well. You thoughts ? Great vid by the way.

  • @duncancharmanangling1136

    Try cutting out the ground bait completely and cutting right back on the hemp and replacing with lots of worm cut up into small pieces and feeding a mix of worm/maggot and a bit of hemp with maggot on one rod and worm on the other.

    Great video as always Duncan! I’m currently putting all my time into a small gravel pit. Worm kebab for whatever reason just doesn’t work, but switching to bunch of red maggots/T-rig works brilliantly. All the Tench I’m having average 5-6lb - however all the carp lads are pulling Tench in between 7-9lb on boilies… have you ever faced something similar?

  • @duncancharmanangling1136
    @duncancharmanangling1136Ай бұрын

    Hi Bradley, unless the carpers are weighing their tench, which I suspect they're probably not, then take the size with a pinch of salt. I fished a big pit where I was told by carpers that double figured bream were a regular occurance, I caught hundreds, the biggest was 9.12!

  • @FEddieP
    @FEddiePАй бұрын

    Could it be eels biting through the hooklinks with the worm kebabs? I've had absolutely screaming runs from eels recently so I've been switching to wire twig rigs whilst its dark and back to fluoro from first light. I'd hate to think I could be deep hooking eels and potentiality killing them

  • @duncancharmanangling1136
    @duncancharmanangling1136Ай бұрын

    It's not eels, probably pike (we have caught a few in daylight) as we have put in around a dozen nights over the last three seasons and only ever had one bite off in the night and caught one eels and never get screamers, apart from the one Chris had. If I was getting plagued by eels then would switch to maggot, if still getting eel runs then to maybe a small boilie so I could keep targeting my desired species. If the eels were that problematic would simply reel in and not fish at night or do exactly the same as you.

    You almost nailed it there Duncan. A tiny bit more emphasis on the hours and sometimes days spent looking for fish, the size (and low stock) of the venues and the extent of the weed would have added to the realism. I've just done 7 days on a pit it berkshire (a 10 hr return trip) 5 of those days were spent looking for fish, and I caught my first fish yesterday! Yes there are easier options for fish that might just scrape double figures (linear etc.) but for me the emphasis is on achievement. Those large southern gravel pits are something else.

    Very nice! Which country is this? Well I’m go to tell a true story here in the USA, Colorado to be exact. Grass Carp. We used small Marshmallows that floated with a floating bobber. Anyways this true story was when I was about 17 or 18yrs of age. (I’m now 47) It was a power plant lake. Every cast with a bass spinner lure was a large mouth bass monster! The cast would not even touch the water yet and the bass would jump and take it out of the sky! Every large mouth bass we caught there was no smaller than 18” and as big as 30” for a large mouth bass. You can fit 2 adult size fist in that large mouth bass, that was crazy!! I want to say it was definitely a record and we was too young and dumb to claim such trophy status. Well we started to see large dorsal fins out about 50 yards out. From the dorsal fin to the back of the tail had to been at least 4ft to 5ft long. Well that is when my cousin said let’s catch it. So we saw the big fishes eat cotton balls that float across the lake cause the wind blew them off the trees into lake. The cousin said I got marshmallows! So we rigged up a #2 hook with bobber on a 10ib braided line. We cast it out there and within 1min we got one! It was like a thunder in the lake splashing. We fight this grass carp for over 10min until it tired. We got it close to the shore and this thing was monstrous! We all looked at each other and said…😅 You go get! Lmao! No one wanted to because of the size of this fish! It’s eye 👁️ balls was about the size of a cows eyes. Its girth was 40inches round and we measured it to be 4ft 11inches. This thing weighed 56ib on our scale which was maxed. Well the 2nd one we couldn’t bring in and this fishes was even bigger!!! Every time we got it 10ft from shore, it would jet splash back into deep waters. That went on for 30min and we meaning the 4 of us was taking turns trying to reel in this monster with 10ib braided. Well the only glimpse of this monster was his head, dorsal fin and tail at 10ft out in the water was at least 6ft and over 100lb the because it was a tank! It finally bent our hook and that my friend was the MONSTER that got away, till this day I wish I can still have it back! 😭😭😭 Grass Carp are no joke when they get that big and it was GODZILLA because of the power plant! Yikes!!! I just wanted to leave a true story here for everyone.

    Great video. Won't the stop rubbers slip when playing the bream? Surely the pressure would be enough for the hooklength to slide down to the feeder? Not sure if that would be a problem, but Im very surprised if the stop rubbers have enough grip to hold position when playing a fish. Thanks

  • @duncancharmanangling1136
    @duncancharmanangling11363 ай бұрын

    When using size 16 hooks I play the fish very gently and the rubbers almost always stay put. Obviously the rubbers need to move under more pressure just in case of a crack off/fish lost etc. I find with some customers they tend to strike/pick the rod up too aggressively and play fish far too hard which means the rubbers slip down. If this happens then it's a good idea to protect the feeder knot with something like a small piece of tubbing which I always use when targeting tench that fight that much harder.

  • @duncancharmanangling1136
    @duncancharmanangling11363 ай бұрын

    Hi Steve, 5inches seems to be best for bream and place the stops holding the hook length above the feeder so that when you fold the hook length against the mainline the hook bait is positioned just above the feeder swivel. Spade end hooks, never used them always an eyed hook tied knots knot style.
