Hey Gwen! This is kind of off subject, but are you subscribed to this KZread channel called "NASS"? If you aren't you definitely should subscribe! This guy remasters old video footage from the 30s and 40s of daily life in the cities, and it is like a freaking time warp!!! You feel like you're almost there, walking the streets of downtown Los Angeles in 1942. Or fifth avenue in New York City in 1946! The videos are just so cool!!! You probably already are subscribed to that channel, but if you're not I would definitely suggest you check it out! I know you'd really get a kick out of it!!! 🙂👏🏻💯

What women did on the homefront during the War is what laid the groundwork for the "freedom" that modern women think that they have in their own minds. But honestly, the fact that there's girls out there that think that we shouldn't dress and live a 40s lifestyle just says that they are oppressed themselves!......IN THEIR OWN MINDS!!! 🤷‍♀️ The fact that they have to stick to such narrow ideas of what it means to be a woman in the modern era just shows that they are suffering from "oppression of free thought" themselves! 🤷‍♀️ Sadly 99% of them don't even realize it! 🤦‍♀️ In all actuality.... Your lifestyle is TRUE FREEDOM..... While they are still ENSLAVED by what they believe is "culturally acceptable" 😒

Girl, your taste in shoes is just like mine! Lol! 😄 For me, it got to the point that I just stopped shopping at thrift stores altogether...... Because in recent years the stock people in the back started throwing away all the good, true vintage, American made stuff away and only put newer cheap Chinese made stuff on the racks. 🤦‍♀️ But once I discovered estate sales and Etsy, things got much better! Lol the only thing that really sucks is every time I find a cute pair of late 30s through late 40s vintage heels, I have to spend an ungodly amount of time attempting to refurbish them and soften them back up. Of which I've learned a pretty good method to do so over the many pairs ive bought over the last few years! Lol. 😅 But aside from that, I'm so glad that I discovered "Re-mix vintage shoes" and "Memery shoes" in the last few years. 🥰 For a long time I didn't think there were any manufacturers out there that actually made their shoes out of real materials in real vintage designs. So they've literally been a godsend.💯💯💯

Love this!! ♥️ Your story up to this point sounds a lot like how my build up to a full-time vintage lifestyle has been going in The last 5 years. 🙂 You're definitely an inspiration to me dear!!! 💯 There for a while I was feeling like I was the only one in the world who was actively pursuing living a genuine vintage lifestyle. So glad to know I'm not alone!! 🙂

You're too hard on yourself babe, none of us over here are judging you, I think you did an amazing job and really made a job that is incredibly hard and tedious look extremely easy and meticulously crafted. We did these in hair school and it is no easy feat to use your finger alone to wrap barrel or pin curls, as well as having the curls match up around the entire head and flow seamlessly, AND have all the curls be balanced and consistent. Beautiful work, wet setting is an art. If you were in hair school with me and presented this set it would be an A+ absolutely! Anyone who has ever given you a rude comment is clearly conceded and low, or they have no idea what they're talking about because wet setting is an art and one of the hardest things to master in the industry. Cheers, beautiful set.

Unfortunately, yes, this is normal. The owners of the nursing homes absorb all the money. The owners like to keep the staff scant, which in turn makes people not want to work there. Sadly, mostly only cold and /or heartless people can stand working in these places. Which is not good for the residents. People who can't really work in other places for various reasons take jobs in these facilities and develope animosity for the patients, and abuse happens. Relatives lie to themselves when placing loved ones in these places.

You remind me of someone I hold very dear to my heart, like almost a replica of her…. my nana…. Hair color skin freckles everything, I must say I’m even kinda envious you look like her that much… She’s my Nana and who doesn’t love their Nana right 🤷🏻‍♀️ of course she’s getting older and who knows how much longer we’ll get to spend time with her…I hope 2 see her this XMAS as she doesn’t come out much anymore due to her age but this is also the reason I was looking for 40’s hair style.. thanks for the video…. Happy Holiday!!

I'm sorry but people who send their family to these places should be ashamed of themselves. This is unheard of in other cultures. They try to justify it by paying ridiculous amounts not to mention the toll it takes on the staff having to deal with this. I feel sorry for people having to spend their last year's here. Cruel. Family are not a burden. With all the money these facilities are getting, you'd think they would be able to hire more staff. Seems a little shady...

I wish the hair salons in the US are bringing these 1940s voluminous hairstyles back for the everyday women. Most women nowadays do their hair styles limp and straight without any body and volume and fullness.

Thank you, I am very interested in discussing more! Actually, the way I dressed was almost 100% the source of positive experiences these residents could relate to, draw memories from, or create fun conversations with. They had a lot of fun discussing the time period of clothing and the memories associated with it. I do plan on talking about this for sure.

As a fellow vintage enthusiast working with seniors, and the generation, I connect most with I have been able to make a career out senior care. I’m a full time Activities director myself but I have a similar experience as you at my previous job. I was an activity Director in a memory care unit. I had 60 residents that I had to do activities from day to night .Again very short staffed there’s multiple times I was doing care, toileting, and just running nonstop. My previous experiences I was a CNA, so I had the training to do this, but it was on top of my other job responsibilities so a lot of times I was staying there almost all day just to get my regular job duties done, and my health did take a toll and it put me in the hospital. Working with those living with dementia. Takes like a lot of training and if you’re coming first into it, I don’t think places really give the tools for people to fully understand and how to interact with people so then when you’re in the job it’s a lot! I am actually Alzheimer’s Association, certified, and Part of dementia friendly, with Tepa Snow, so I have been taking dementia classes since I was 20 years old., so 13 years lol The place makes a difference. Where I’m at now is a community not a facility and we are staffed. Employees are happy. The residents are happy! Practicing person centered care. One main issue with facilities, is they’re paying for all this money for this room and it’s not going to the caregivers giving direct care it’s going to the investors and the CEOs and all your higher-ups getting these larger payrolls or a fancy building! Even if they start out with a semi all right minimum wage, they’re not supplying enough people for the ratios that are there and that’s what’s causing all this burn out! We can probably swap so many stories. And I personally love senior care I’ve been everything from working in the kitchen when I was a teenager to then becoming a aid to then a CNA to then finally becoming a Director and it is my personal calling and I hope that if you try to go back into this field that you find a community like I have because it makes the world of a difference were you’re there to do your role and not everyone else’s. Now that being said, I still hold my CNA so I do offer to help now and then and because I drive the big boss and I take a resident out to meals I assist them in the restroom but again I have the training for this. As the Director of activities where I’m at we are actually called. Resident experience team and that’s because not only do I coordinate all their events I take them on their outings I do generational programs volunteer coordination’s for a resident. I think I run just as much doing stuff as the Director that I did as a CNA lol. Ps: I’d love to chat sometime dementia stories or just our passion for vintage! <3 Jojo

Wow, your story and career sounds incredible!! I admire you so much for devoting your life to this. I could have learned so much from you. Being a CNA while doing the job just makes so much sense, it is a shame I wasn't made aware before hand that there would be a lot of that. It sounds like you have and still do wear so many hats. Kudos to you, you have probably changed so many lives for the better. Please message me anytime, I am sure we have stories to go around for ages!!!

Courageous of you to share this. My first job at 15 was at an assisted living as a waitress. It is terrible to not get the full scope of any job description esp in the beginning, deceptive in some cases. I know what that level is like unfortunately and I gained a lot of wisdom from it. I’m glad you got out when you did. As for the neglect from the facility and absenteeism of family members, may they be given opportunity to see the hard truth in their timing, and choose accountability and integrity. I will spare the comment section my true sentiments, it’s not my place anyway. I can’t imagine the horrors that go on in facilities in the middle of nowhere and with no staff. So, even with the residents’ capacity for reality, you were still a blessing to their lives and I’m sure you know that. Sounds like some days you went into battle with it all. Your storytelling is beautiful, important and very much needed and I have every confidence you will be rewarded for it😊I would love to hear amazing stories and hear you keep the truth and love alive. This put a whole other dimension to your platform. Very rich. Much love. 🌹

I spent alot of my childhood in that home. The house, in its latest years, belonged to the Knight family. I have an endless amount of memories in and around that home. Maybe it's a strange request but I would love to see the work you are doing, share my memories, and maybe take one last walk through the house that was home to a family who helped shape who I am today.
