I just want to say that I am way impressed that you got that thing to basically behave outside the sphere of any sequel to the movie Alien in that dance track. Bro, what the fuck kinda dark magic is that? (I did in fact see what kinda magic it was, but still, damn.)

This melody has been playing in my head since the last time I watched this video 2 years ago. Sometimes when people ask me questions I involuntarily answer them with this melody.

I am playing keys in a band (not a cover band) and we use a variety of keys/synth sounds for our music. I use Roland system-8 for synth sounds which I can tweak on fly and a midi keyboard with a laptop as a second keyboard for more "fixed" sounds like piano. Having something like Astrolab will be much more convenient than midi+laptop.

Get a 20 pack of piezos for like $15 and strap em to everything. Or get a little wooden box and mount all kinds of stuff to it: Springs, coins, screws, hinges, buttons, switches, keyboard keys etc.

I've got the Electro Lobotomy Sonic Forest and Spring Board that are similar. You've probably heard of Tony Duggan-Smith's Apprehension Engine or Waterphones as they're the more famous ones, or perhaps the MPA 019.

Love the VCV patch, got me wondering if I can be arsed creating a DIY version to experiment with myself. I would probably stick it through 16 Rings and randomly modulate everything. Could definitely take this a lot further!

Years ago I homebuilt a really shitty box like this with a passive contact mike. Using Ableton I can get the same sounds. I think it's still awesome as you focus on proper effects sound design as the unprocessed sounds are pretty mediocre.

Ooh, I've seen Mark Farrelly play homemade ones... very cool to have a version people can just buy, with a little bit of everything in a fairly small space. Some of Farrelly's are way bigger, with much larger springs, which of course tend to have more resonance on the low end. But the larger a box like this is, obviously the more unwieldy it is. I really like the tuning marks on those tines here, makes it nice to get western-tuning sounds if you want. You chose some great effects chains here too.

Hey Jeremy! What’s the kit at the very beginning? Did you just record some chords in like ableton and export that, or do it internally? I dig it, whatever you did. Just thinking of best practices with the OP-1f. Thank you for doing these! I get a ton from watching your vids, and I appreciate your take on the state of the world. It’s a tough world for musicians right now.
