That’s how my car got repo. I was wondering how they knew exactly where my car was. Now I know. and I always had a feeling they did have a trucking device.

You mean you're not a contortionist? I would definitely do something to that device to disable it, or ruin it for them, and then hand it back to them and tell them to shove it!

You're way calmer than I'd be about this. Why would anyone be tracking you? I found that when my son first got his car insurance that they had an OBD port dongle that you could use for a safe driver's discount. The damn thing killed his brand-new battery.

My Lil' Review. GRC C is broke in (now @ 2k kms) a/w PPF & Mud Flaps installed - time to get rowdy🤡 Bought the car as a utilitatian daily (cuz U gotta p/u beer). & have some fun on back roads (gravel & snow covered surfaces et al) I was on a well graveled road with plenty of banked 90 degree turns. They would have been a slam dunk drifting with any RWD vehicle - muscle memory would have kicked in. Heck even with my Fiesta ST (after 10 years of ownership) I could drifted those corner at speed, under relative control. BUT the AWD on the GR is a totally different dynamic for me. I did manage to slide around the corners but my inputs were pretty wooden & uncertain. With the extra forward moving traction it will take a bit to get a feel for that aspect. Good fun though & much it's better than expected. At 100 mph it feels just as planted as my 911's were (if memory serves) ie Walk in the park. (really)👍 At 125 mph it is fine but you have to pay more attention than @ 100... Now that I am actually "driving" this beast - A trip to the mountains will be inevitable.

Gps systems have nothing to do with tuning your car ! Makes it harder to scan system it has to be bipased but the new cars won’t let you turn up horse power or change the timing it’s variable now

There's also CRASH logging, which has been going on for much longer!!....after an accident, they plug into the car and Know who's at fault!! I do believe Most, if not all manufacturers are doing this today!! Anything connected to a satellite like Tesla and other EV's absolutely do it wirelessly....

Your driving habit data is just that, DATA. Data is a commodity bought, sold, and traded amongst data brokers, insurance companies, etc. If you pull your own Innovis credit file you may see a multi page history of every turn, braking occurrence, etc you've done in your car listed (Progressive has an OBD dongle that does exactly this), and dealerships sell that data to insurance companies who in turn will use it against you as an excuse to jack up your rates, yet won't tell you that's what they've used. I make it a point to never have anything in any car I own connected to the internet, WiFi, etc or otherwise logging my cars location and granular activities in such a way. Only Bluetooth for my music apps. ALWAYS make it a point to know if any car you own is connected to cyberspace in such ways. Some newer cars may have such things already hardwired into a harness or the stereo head deck (Cadillac does) from the factory that will need to be deactivated and/or physically removed that a dealership will overcharge or refuse to do. We must become more dilligent and highly savvy consumers to thwart being screwed over by corporations in such a way.

Highly recommend creating a script. Also, you need to start taking notes when you interact with anybody at the dealership and or the lawyers. Take notes because they will lie, cheat and Will question your memory or try to say that you were wrong. If you actually have notes or something written then it's very difficult for them to deny that.

Cadillac dealers now charges you $1000 to install a free gps tracker from Cadillac under pretense of helping to recover a stolen vehicle. In reality, they are selling the data to third parties like your insurance company to track your driving habits!!

Do you own the car or is it being bought through the loan? If you have a loan on the car that’s why it has a tracker or they just forgot to take it off from when it said on the lot in case somebody stole it.

  • @razor281

People are just so money hungry, the dealership probably installed it and forgot. Things happen but doing all this is frivolous asf and you have way too much time on your hands. You act like someone tried breaking into your house or spying on you in the restroom lol people are so weird. Tbh i would be happy if my dealership had a gps on my car, it could help if someone stole my car so at the end of the day its a "oh hey theres a gps on my car take it off." "Sure mr blah blah" and go on with your life.

The OBD port is a simple place to pick up power for a tracking unit. but it doesn't usually get any information from the car. The same tracking units can be fitted to old cars (as long as they have a 12 V system) but it's just a little more difficult to connect to a power supply. Like many aftermarket accessories, some tracking units take a considerable amount of power when the car is turned off.

Question- Are these able to also remotely turn off the Vehicles ? Is it possible ? I mean, its an electronic device hooked to the wiring harness which is de facto hooked to the onboard digital controls- so I'm wondering if this is even MORE sinister than just tracking your driving habits for free and making extra bucks. Because clearly so many have been installed on vehicles paid for outright, I'm wondering what other capabilities they may have -

I'm no car or security guy, but I have a few guesses. 1: Tracking for repo. I worked at a theme park as a lot security person for years and we have had repo people come before, most of the time being tow trucks though there were probably a few that had a spare key given by the dealer, though we would deny them. If the car didn't have any after-market services active, they had to have tracked it somehow. 2: Tracking for theft from owner. Probably not the reason it would be used. They'd most likely use whatever special service, like Lo-jack or Onstar, that was installed in the car to track it. That is if they don't use that tracker for those services. 3: Tracking for theft from dealer. Lots of cars. Seems easy to miss one or two. 4: Tracking for theft going to the dealer. Probably installed at the factory and used to make sure the shipment arrives safely. 5: Get driving data in real time. Biggest conspiracy theory for this one. Highly unlikely if it's just a gps tracker, but possible if it's more than that. It's hooked up directly to the car's computer, so it is possible to collect data and send it off without storing the data on the device. Of course, this is under the assumption that that's possible to do. Driving data being used, hopefully, to make cars safer and more efficient.

Is it related to that news about car dealers tracking your driving habits and selling that info to the insurance companies?
