If it sounds cheesy, you can blame Goldfrapp for purveying that sound. I didn't think I would like this album as much as English Electric and Punishment of Luxury because of the first two single choices. I love those two albums far more than History of Modern. The songs Bauhaus Staircase and Slow Train were kind of odd singles choices because the former doesn't have a lot of synth hooks and no chorus and the latter isn't really OMD as we know them. I do think the two songs fit the whole of the album though. I am shocked that I like this album a little more than English Electric and Punishment of Luxury. I think the songs on Bauhaus Staircase sound very cohesive as a whole. And, there are some really beautiful moments on this record like "Aphrodite's Favorite Child", "Veruschka", "Don't Go", "Look At You Now" and "Anthropocene". And, "Evolution of Species" is one of the best spoken word collage songs they have ever done. I think this would be in my top 5 OMD albums of all time.
