    😃 on the What Noise album subject. It has this pompous and exaggerated production but very fashionable at that time 😃 with that kind of "gospel" vowels 😛 you have to understand that part of the spirit of KTP is this mocking, silly and exaggerated spectacularity, they liked to twist things, that was part of the spirit of the time and they knew how to capture it very well! 😃 This album is perfect for having fun playing it to boring adults, pretending to be serious while doing it and then start seeing their reactions when they say damn! what's that?? !! hahah

    Hahaha! 😄 😃 well first of all Kajagoogoo might be one hit wonders but! A Flock Of Seagulls were not one hit wonders...😃 🙂 From their self named AFOS superb album they had at least 4 singles: I Ran, Space Age Love Song, Telecommunication and Modern Love Is Automatic. On their Listen album they had some singles like Wishing, Transfer Affection... In 1984 on their 4th album they had very well known singles like The More You Live The More You Love and The Story Of A Young Heart...

    yeah I did not look too deeply into that because I have only ever heard one AFoS song in the wild, but turns out they had at least three songs chart in the top ten in the US, oops. either way I think my point about cheesy (yet enjoyable) new wave songs still stands

    Mmmmm.. I take your points and respect that you're more than entitled to have your own opinion BUT... the 1990's KTP were absolutely fantastic. Being there when Sugarland was performed live was absolutely amazing The lights ,the sound and the band members having a great time. Me and my friends (around 20 of us) were lucky enough to see them 5 times- great memories :) If you're not keen on KTP have you tried The Fall and The Birthday Party from the early 80's period? Now they were "quirky" ;)

    I had to buy the CD after hearing the album the first couple of times through. I really like the whole thing. I'm not really familiar with the group's discography or the group themselves, but they are a group I know I've heard of over the years and heard a song from here and there. I saw the album on Amazon while browsing the other day and the cover image caught my eye. I really like the clean and simple design of it.

    As a graphic designer with a career spanning over 40 years, I approve of the album cover art. It's also in keeping with their iconic covers of their early years.

  • @funnysynthnoises

    I agree that it also fits their themes, but as someone who isn’t a graphic designer, I just don’t like it visually. Of course, this is such a minor thing, and I’ll enjoy the album regardless of the cover

    @@funnysynthnoises They like their austere cover art and depictions. Nothing usually standout, but it's them and that's what matters. But i remain most impressed by the "Crush" album cover and likely the debut, but only in its remastered blue and orange, not the original colour. Don't why it changed since, but glad of it.

    Great album and I like Slow train as well, it sounds sexy. Maybe a little cheesy, but it just flows in the album and I like it. I can't stop listening to Don't go since the release of the Souvenir boxset. I like the cover too!

  • @kyachdistent1301
    @kyachdistent13018 ай бұрын

    If it sounds cheesy, you can blame Goldfrapp for purveying that sound. 'Don't Go's' inclusion is cheeky as it's an old song, but it helps coming after the 'Slow Train' one which is the only song that, not disappoints exactly, but isn't up to what the others are exactly. If only Paul was singing one, that's one glaring omission!

    I love the album, but I do have a couple of critiques. Evolution of the Species sounds way too much like Daft Punk's Tron: Legacy soundtrack. I think G.E.M. is just not up to the standard of the rest of the album. I can, however, convince myself to forgive them for Evolution of the Species though. My favorite is probably Don't Go or Anthropocene. I've listened to this whole album probably 20 times. I bought the CD (three cheers for physical media) for myself and bought another for my brother. Can't wait for the upcoming tour!

    Don't bring up bloody Depress Mode, anyone can shout "Go!" on their song, like Kim Wilde's 'The Second Time', and many other people. Dep Mode would LOVE to sound like OMD, and others, but they haven't a chance, overrated dopes! Love that 'Joan Of Arc' 2.0 one, haha!! Anyway, surely 'Helen Of Troy' is 'Joan Of Arc' 2.0, this one be more like the "Pacific Age" era perhaps, like 'Dead Girls'.

    I didn't think I would like this album as much as English Electric and Punishment of Luxury because of the first two single choices. I love those two albums far more than History of Modern. The songs Bauhaus Staircase and Slow Train were kind of odd singles choices because the former doesn't have a lot of synth hooks and no chorus and the latter isn't really OMD as we know them. I do think the two songs fit the whole of the album though. I am shocked that I like this album a little more than English Electric and Punishment of Luxury. I think the songs on Bauhaus Staircase sound very cohesive as a whole. And, there are some really beautiful moments on this record like "Aphrodite's Favorite Child", "Veruschka", "Don't Go", "Look At You Now" and "Anthropocene". And, "Evolution of Species" is one of the best spoken word collage songs they have ever done. I think this would be in my top 5 OMD albums of all time.

    I have been a life long fan of OMD and by and large I love the album. I am glad I am not the only person that isnt in love with Slow Train. Veruschka is a song I love and has moved into my top 10 of OMD songs. I have said on another KZread video that its different whilst being familiar but it could divide some fans in a similar way as Dazzle Ships did decades ago. I hope it isnt the last album they do but if it is then its not a bad one for them to go out on. I saw them over 40 years ago in Newcastle and have seen them many times since and I look forward to seeing them again....they have just enlarged an amazing back catalogue of material

    Thank you for joining me on the Slow Train hate...train.
