From the orthodox point of view the most important legacy of Benedict XVI was to drop the title of Patriarch of Rome and all the West. Why? Because according to the ancient canons it is forbidden for bishops to interfere within the territory of another bishop. That's why orthodox Patriarchs always refused to create congregations for natives in the western part of Europe. That's why the existing congregations are all focused on their ethnic group: the Russian Church cares for the Russian expatriates. The Greek Church for the Greek diaspora etc. Whenever the natives came and asked to create, let say, a Belgian orthodox Church, the Patriarchs refrained and told them that they already had a Patriarchate in Rome. This Patriarchate of the West is now vacant. This means that nothing prevents the creation of a new orthodox parish in Belgium. I am not sure if Benedict XVI understood that or not when he took that decision. Lord have mercy on us all sinners.

His books are absolutely brilliant and not demonic, The Green Mile is massively Christian as John Coffey. His initials are JC Jesus Christ and was executed for his righteousness. Heals the sick and comforting the lost. It's like saying Lord of the Rings is demonic when in fact Tolkien was a devote Christian.

As a sociology major back in the early '70s, I was privileged to have Sister Mary George as a professor for many of my classes, and I always had the utmost respect for her. She was definitely my favorite college prof. I'm glad to see that she's still actively involved with the college as I can't imagine a better person to be the 'face' of St. Josephs.

In the mid 1990s there was still a few elderly Shaker women in their 70s and 80s in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. About 5 of them in a documentary spoke about the decline of their culture. They were the last in Massachusetts.
The last time Thomas Merton attended a Shaker meeting he was very critical of their Minister and said that he did not have Holy Spirit. It is nice to hear that he did not view the Shaker people according to his view of their Minister. His mother who died when he was 6years old had been a Shaker.
