    Does this work for the 6.7s as well?

  • @JCSDieselPerformance
    @JCSDieselPerformance3 күн бұрын

    @AjReda yes it does, but on a 6.7 its alot harder to access the alternator to bar the engine over, i like to do 6.7s valve half at a time, the harmonic balancer will have a TDC mark on it with a line under it, take a paint pen and highlight this tdc mark, and then get a flex head long handle 3/8" ratchet, and a 6 point 15mm socket and bar the engine over until your paint mark is at 12 o'clock and do the intakes on 1,2, and 4, and exhaust on 1,3, and 5, and then go back under the truck and rotate the engine another 360 degrees until the paint mark is at 12 o'clock again, and adjust intakes on 3, 5, 6 and exhausts on 2, 4 and 6. Sometimes this order will be 3,5, 6 and 2,4, 6 first, because you have a 50/50 shot at which position you will end up at. If the 6.7 is deleted, adjust your intakes to .010" and exhausts to .020", factory 6.7s exhausts are set at .026" due to the extra heat the emissions equipment adds.

    I'm rebuilding a 46re. I bought a core from a junk yard and I asked them what kind of condition it was in. They said it will get me by. Bullshit! Someone tried to rebuild it and totally fucked it up! They had two steels without a friction in it. The piston had NO outer seal on the piston on the direct clutch. There was grey goo from it frying everywhere in the transmission. Someone really screwed it up! I am lucky it has any usable parts in it.

    There's a rebuilder guide that shows how to make a tool to disassemble the direct drum. I made my own version of it and it works just fine. I happened to have some wood laying around from a roof repair and just bought some all thread, nuts and bolts. It's also a pretty good idea to either make or buy a metal pan for the rebuild. The fluid will get everywhere if you don't. I used a cheap plastic container for under the bed storage and cracked one, which wasn't a big deal since I had three.

    Dude, I've got forwards drive in RND321. Then some absolutely nothing. How can I be going forward in R and N? Any guidance, there's nobody in the UK with these trucks 😂

  • @JCSDieselPerformance
    @JCSDieselPerformance2 ай бұрын

    So its moving forward in every gear? And then intermittently not doing anything? easy, your forward clutches are smoked. There is 4 .064" frictions and 3 .070" steels in the forward clutch pack. The thing is, we need to find out why those failed, these typically only fail from modified diesel trucks with laggy turbos when the driver is on the brakes and gas at the same time trying to get the large turbocharger to start building boost, well the forwards can eventually start slipping if you do that too long. Another way they can fail is if the forward pistons lip seals are old and not sealing properly, another way is if the valvebody is making over 210 psi in drive, the forward piston can push put past its limit, damaging the forward piston return spring (bellview spring), when this happens the forward clutches will drag in park, and neutral, pretty much instantly destroying those frictions. Your intermittent no movement is probably the filter getting clogged with material or its low on fluid, or the damaged forward piston seals are taking up too much volume of fluid causing a low pressure condition (intermittently) if you need any more help let me know, you can also call me if you really need any further guidance

  • @JCSDieselPerformance
    @JCSDieselPerformance2 ай бұрын

    Another way is if it was rebuilt recently, they could have too much forward piston clearance from using the wrong piston/bellview springs

    The new way to repair transmissions is to take the old unit whatever the issue is and recycle it and put in a new replacement transmission. It’s the way to get rid of mechanics and just use technicians to get out of service vehicles back on the road. Forward and side marker lights along with the headlamp are going in to a single unit and when one bulb is bad just remove the old one piece unit and toss it and replace with a new light marker unit. It the new way of business. Bummer bout the rear ends getting scrapped though.

    It aggravates me because this guy had just been took for i think 6800 bucks and he maybe got a month out of it, and then i get the customer who is now super hard to convince that it wont happen with my unit. so i take alot of recordings and show the errors. These transmissions are plagued with guys who dont know how to build them to hold power. That ATSG book is good for building a stock unit, that's it. The internet then takes over, and you get shit like this. A ridged band, and 7 .063 steels, and 7 .063 frictions because they say "more is better", ive beem able to get 5 .085 steels and 5 .085" GPZ frictions to hold 1100hp, i put 6 of each in evem my stage 1s, 7 thins dramatically reduces the thermal capacity of the unit, as well as machining the reaction plate at the top of the stackup to accept that many. That .215" thick reaction plate is your heat sync. when you take .070" off of it, you now have a warped heat sync that unevenly wears the stackup below it from it being far from flat anymore, when machined like that, not only does the hydraulic force from 3rd applying warp it, but when those thin frictions and steels slip, that gets you the black and blue you see here 😂 this one i tore down in front of him, because i had my doubts that it was even equipped with the billet shafts they said it had, it did not. And i dont ever wanna be blamed for maybe taking them etc

    Block is bottom tapped for these haisley head studs, i always just leave the washers out that go under the pedestal stud nuts, been doing it that way for 10 years now and never had any issues. Valvecovers aren't grinded at all. I recommend bottom tapping your head bolt holes with any 89-current 5.9 or 6.7, this helps decrease upper cylinder distortion and promotes a better ring seal while decreasing wear. Puredieselpower.com sells the correct bottoming tap that isn't chinese BS to make quick work of the job.

    If the budget permits, and it's a truck you plan to keep, i would install a Trans Go TFRE-PRO kit in the valvebody, and then add these items from sonnax to go in the valve body as well 4 spool switch valve Billet governor bore plugs lube regulated pressure regulator Line pressure plug & sleeve Those items compliment the trans go kit insanely well. That's what I'd do to the valvebody. Now you'll also want to do a billet strut & anchor, and I'd get a billet accumulator and kickdown servo from TCS Products. This stuff might sound like a lot, and it might sound expensive, but i think it comes to around 500 bucks or so, but these things drastically improve the transmission, and it will feel alot more confident. The pro kit right out of the box isn't very aggressive shifting either, so if you're worried about that dont be.
