My name is Kat and I am the owner of Fern Farm Plants, a small nursery in Australia growing and selling succulents. Through these videos i will be sharing tips on how to grow & care for succulents. All the plants featured in the videos are our own succulents.
My nursery was established over 8 years when i gave up an office job to take over a 5 acre nursery growing foliage plants for the florist industry. Since then the business has evolved to raise succulents (and other plants) and sell them online, at the local markets and florists. Now my nursery is at the back of our large property, complete with over 30 000 succulents.
Succulent Growing Tips was established to help people understand succulents and share my experience growing these amazing plants.

I learned so much from this video. Now i understand why my repotted succulents died. How much water do I give it after repotting?
The Rubin is my favorite!
Absolutely beautiful!!
Hi. Great video! I'm a new subscriber!! My Hens are looking mushy and opaque. They are not getting too much rainwater bc they're on a covered porch. Could it be that I'm not watering them enough?
Beutyful sacculant 😊
Hi new friend Thanks for sharing this great video
Brilliant explanation. Shared 🎉
Thank you 😌💚
I just bought bear’s paw (white) and as soon as they arrived I watered them angry were gone until I repotted them. 60% of their leaves fell. I’m a newby succulent lover. Any idea I can do to stop the leaves from falling? Thanks gif your tips.
Oh no, sorry to hear that🥺. It can be a few things and it's a bit difficult to guess without knowing more about where you are, where the plant is kept etc. so i'll just list possible causes. The white bear's paw is not very tolerant of overwatering but watering them once should not have caused that response. It's usually repeated watering often that will make it lose a lot of leaves. Having it indoors in insufficient light can easily cause them to start dropping leaves. These guys like bright light but not a lot of strong sun, though, often indoors is not bright enough even if you get some sunlight. If you have a covered patio or shaded spot outdoors, i'd pop it there but be mindful of the rain. You can also get it plant growing lights if you want to have it inside. Lastly, the plant could have just gotten a bit of a shock from being transported and arriving in a completely different environment. The white paws are quite sensitive little buggers. I really hope it pulls itself together and starts growing soon 💚🤞
@@SucculentGrowingTips Thanks for the tips. I love watching your videos, I live in MD, USA and the paws were shipped from CA. I think I must have watered them too much cause they were still kind of wet when I potted. I think I should have waited for them to be drier before potting. But today I think whatever’s left will survive. They are a little drier today and I’m not going to water them until they are really thirsty. I hope they get fat leaves cause I really like them. They are so cute those paws especially with those red tips. I getting ready to watch the link for leaf propagation you mentioned in one of your videos since I have so many leaves. I hope they will propagate.
How do you treat an inground garden. They ruined all my plants. Devils
You can get tablets that dissolve into soil with watering. The plants then absorb them through the roots and have the active ingredients inside. When the mealybugs feed off the roots, they'll ingest the poison and, hopefully die.. Like any mealybug treatment, it is not 100% effective but should help enough. There's also granules etc, you can sprinkle on top of the soil but they will kill a lot of good bugs in the soil as well. Hope this helps 🙂
This video is so good on so many levels...😂
Thank you 😀💚
You're right tho... You gotta repot if you want it to thrive and be lush and beautiful. Otherwise it wont grow to its potential. 😊❤
Great info that others dont really put out so much. Love your channel as ive said before. Thank you ❤
I love it!!! 😂😂😂 Very creative. I bet it sells quick ❤❤❤ i like rhipsalis for "hair" also.
Hehe, it will certainly be fun to watch the reactions of people coming to the stall 😂😂 Rhipsalis makes the best hair 👌
Best succulent channel on YT. Thanks for these amazing videos.
Thank you so much ☺💚💚💚
Thank you so much for sharing your video your succulents are just gorgeous🤗💞
A crash course in terminology. Well done 🦄.
Thank you 🙂💚
This is not meant necessarily for you but for viewers who are falling for these pseudo "new" hybrids, "rare" plants, who think tissue culture is a new method, for those getting scammed (imo), buying into the "rare" plant hype, Damn can we say plant "growers" gone wild? So many people/new companies naming and renaming plants & "hybrids" from pseudo new hybrids plants. All these new plant "breeders"/sellers and implying they're botanist is all craziness and an attempt to profit off of this plant trend befor the plant bubble bust. I cannot pin point which consumers are falling for these rare. new plants and paying high price for plants that 1) Plant hybrids and cultivars take a long time to create in research and establish stable hardy plants 2) A person/company simply crossing plants with hybrids, even more bogus hybrid with hybrid doesn't mean you created a new unstable or stable plant. Without the proper documentation research to show, it is not legit. And this sense of entitlement, in which "breeders" "growers" are naming old plants as if they created a new type of plant in the genus or species is freaking ridiculous but their scam is actually working because people are actually buying "rare' "new" plants is seed and tissue without knowing if they're are consuming a frankenstein plant that can potentially be weak and prone to fungal and viral diseases.
Very useful thank you so much! Always love seeing your new vids pop up 😊😊😊❤❤❤
TY, much appreciate your kind comments ☺💚
Certainly, I am nobody special and the very least among the least of you....but may I ask that you like and subscribe to her channel? Her videos are so helpful and generous - she deserves a lot more appreciation.
Thank youuu, that means a lot 💚💚💚
Agree... and can't wait to visit her at the markets...
@@marialakshmi2330 Would LOVE to be able to do that!
I'm showing my friends this!
TY 💚💚💚
The droopy derrière pot deserved to display an awesome plant. You did him justice.
Thank youu ☺💚 It was so hard to decide, but i really like him 🥰
OMG I LOVE THIS SET UP, AND I'VE NEVER SEEN THIS KIND OF SUCCULENT
TY 💚 The succulent is called Rhipsalis baccifera- love using it as hair ☺
thanks!
Most welcome 🙂💚
I love them! 😅 I'd use them. They're definitely conversation pieces to say the least 💚
What is the difference between getting a patent on a plant vs creating your own hybrid (in which you can name the plant) vs creating a cultivar?
Every human made hybrid is also a cultivar (cultivated variety). If you manage to create your own and want to officially name it you'll have to make sure it's true to type and there are rules you need to adhere to (national and international) if you want it to be recognised as a new cultivar. You can also choose to patent it and have exclusive breeding rights. The process will be different based on where in the world you are- you'll have to find out what the rules are in your particular country. Hope this helps :) I also just made a video on the different terminology used around plant names which explain the difference between cultivar, hybrid etc. kzread.info/dash/bejne/YmmlzcedhZXUYJc.htmlsi=ALmsfa_hg12OQ7Mv

@@SucculentGrowingTips I thought so but know one with expertise has addressed the differences or similarities. I just hear growers mention cultivars and hybrids but I wasn't sure if the terminology is synonymous.
@@sonnyalvarado768 It kind of is and isn't- man made hybrid can always be called a cultivar but not every cultivar is a hybrid. For instance selectively bred lines that were a mutation rather than a result of hybridization are also cultivars. If hybridizations or mutations happen in nature spontaneously the terminology changes again. It's all explained in a bit more depth in yesterdays video. It's all a bit confusing as people use the terms interchangeably 😅
So are cultivars plants hybrids or not cultivated meaning they are tissue cultures?
such an awesome succulent. feels like it's top tier for a variety of reasons and characteristics
Do you sell in Pennsylvania.
Which hardy(zone 3 to 6) succulents would you recommend for a peastone garden(all peastone with maybe 5% soil under all the stones)
This video was very helpful!
Thank you 💚
Wow, the Graptoveria Bashful is very pretty!
It's so pretty- i love how shiny and red it can get. Such a shame it doesn't want to play ball when the weather is wet 😕
I really like the llama and the dog, but ugh that music is being torn up and sounds awful and really hurt my ears 😞.Sorry just my opinion.
Every video is such a treat :) Pooch is cute, too!
Aw, thanks so much- very kind of you 🙂💚 The pooch, in a true cattle dog fashion, has to always stick his nose everywhere ❤
Hi Kat Could you tell us the names of the hybrids in the tray that you like and grow? I love your videos and really appreciate your expertise.
Sure thing :) There's two or three i'm not too sure about though but i'll list the rest.. Violet Queen, Strawberry Puff, Exotica, Lilacina Garotto, Pink Champagne, Blue Metal, Apus, Tiny Burger, Dark Ice, Monroe hybrid. I also have a video where i list all of my favourite Echeveria, if you're interested the link is below ☺ kzread.info/dash/bejne/gJ1109p9g93Lcps.htmlsi=-z5TL-kq3jV6SOBl
I was looking for a list of favorite Echeverias. Thank you.
Thanks so much. Always look forward to your next video. 😊
I appreciate your honest, knowledgeable and unique content! I have about 200 echeveria and have been binge watching your videos. I have learned more from your channel than any other content creator. Please keep up the good work and especially the unique topics ❤️
Thank you - i very much appreciate your kind comment 😌💚💚💚
8:21 minutes crassula ? can you please tell me the name of this one. Thanks Kat.
That one is Crassula sarmentosa variegata 🙂
Hello! I gave Schwarzkopf leaf a go! I’ve put it on top of moist soil and I’ve placed the pot with a jar of water in a transparent bag for some extra humidity. Im in the U.K. and temperatures rarely went above 20C since I’ve gotten the leaf couple of months ago. A little florette has formed now, which is very exciting! On the other side, towards the soil is some sort of a ball, but no roots yet. Your leaves seem to have formed roots first then florettes. This is all very exciting! Do you think I might get lucky and actually grow a baby Schwarzkopf?
Ooo, that is so exciting!! Well done! I think you may have a good chance of getting a baby Schwarzkopf in the UK thanks to your cooler temperatures. If it's not too much bother, pls keep us updated 😀
Thanks. This is very helpful for me to understand why some of my plants don't do as well as others.
Glad i could help 💚😌
Thank you for the caring of this beautiful succulent. Now I know why my Cotyledon doesn,t flower..need sun. I have of them in the garden shed for 3 years, and no flowers, not enough sun, .
I personally LOVE deadly virus pot! Butt man pot reminds me of Dali’s style. Quirky pots are my fave pots!
Thank you for another really informative video. Francesco Baldi crests really easily with mine. I threw some out because I was running out of pots! 🤣 It’s such a tough plant for Perth’s climate and tolerates less water than many hybrids. I think it’s due to its blue hue.
Love the E bluebird? So many beautiful ones 🤩🪷🪴🌵
TY ☺💚
My plant is losing leaves! Will over watering and shade cause this? It has been extremely hot here 107+ , so I'm trying to help , but i think im doing more harm than good.😢
Lol, it would be hard to choose front from back on the last pot. The face is awesome but the butt makes a statement.
I know 😅 I was thinking the dining table/ patio table where it would be visible from all sides 🤣
The man with the butt cheeks would fit in so well with my plants at home! Don't shame him like that, he's gorgeous 😭
He's going to be the centrepiece on my patio table 😃
Love this 3 degrees tonight in Penrith, maybe I need to run out and bring mine indoors? I also have eves I put some of the semi frost hardy plants under because they still get full sun till noon 🪴🪷🪴
3 should be ok for them & the eves are perfect🙂 I'm up in Springwood and they stay outside all year round. Although, we don't have the frosts you guys do 🥶 I used to have a nursery in Cranebrook and would throw a frost cloth over during the worst of Winter.
They are totally my style
I can't wait to plant them out with some weird & unusual plants 😍 the butt man is so going to be a centrepiece on the outdoor dining table 😁
I actually want the ass one
These are the rare and beautiful 🤩 pots Kat . I have not seen these kinds anywhere out on the net or even in shops.(Jokes apart) Who ever has made them is a genius much better than the spashes and blobs called modern art.
Love the 🦒 and the Mr moustache pots.
Hehe, yes- they are certainly very unusual and i'm here for it 😁 I'm going to plant them out with some strange and unusual plants- can't wait for the final look 😂
I hope you have a wonderful time potting them 🤗 and a wonderful day ahead.
Fails?! Those are masterpieces! I would literally buy the last one if I could
Haha, a bit unhinged but i do like them too 🤣. I may or may not have 2 of the 'butt' pot 🙈
You're right. I wasn't ready. 😂
It's certainly a one of a kind 🤣
