Field Guide to DIY™️ is all about giving direction to homeowners and do-it-yourselfers. We feature how-tos, projects, product reviews, tips, tricks, and hacks. We talk about woodworking, electrical, plumbing and all-around home improvement for folks on a budget or just wanting to know how. If you know of a better way, provide it in the comments section of the video.
My name is Eddie Field. I enjoy bad dad jokes and saving money. You might even call me a cheapskate. I learned so much from my dad and have had so many of my friends ask how I fixed this or built that. So I decided you might want to know.
We grow up in such a disposable day and age. It is good to see folks fix it themselves. Remember when you were little? Mom or Dad would try to help and you'd say, "NO! I can do it myself!" Field Guide to DIY is designed to help you do just that -- Do It Yourself.
Please let us know if you have any questions or comments. Thanks for checking us out.

Too much work. No thx.
Very unhappy to have followed your direction on this. Now I am really struggling to get it to lock. Why leave this video up?
Doug, I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble getting it back together. Perhaps this video will help. Head Removal - Ryobi Weed Wacker String Trimmer String Replacement kzread.info/dash/bejne/fahnvNdyj7TIdJc.html. As to why I keep this video up, it is a way to restring your string trimmer; in fact the instructions provided with mine gave this way. Also if the line is tangled inside the spool, you MUST do it this way. Keep me posted.
just as simple as that!
😀😀😀
👍👍👍. Thanks Eddie
Any time! Thanks so much for watching!
Much appreciated
Absolutely! Glad it helped!
Dang! That's much better than my "eyeball" method.
Absolutely!
Good one. Thank you. God bless
Absolutely! You are quite welcome. Thank you for watching!
Is no one going to talk about how much this stinks? Smells like burning hair!
Now that you mention it, it does. Always wear gloves and apply in a well ventilated area.
Thank you so much for this, easy to follow, liked and subscribed!
Thank you. And thanks so much for watching and subscribing!
Downvote for finger waggle
Oh, c’mon ergo! That is a great idea!
Balance the what now? I was the only person measuring screw positions before I realized the tape solution?
Brilliant!
I felt like such a genius when I thought of this 😁
Thanks for sharing, Paul. 😁
@@FieldGuidetoDIY hahaha I'll go ahead and start my own YT channel 😁
@paulvansommeren even better, any other brilliant ideas, send them to @FieldGuidetoDIY. 😂
👍👍👍 Great tip. Thanks Eddie
Thanks so much for watching, Pete!
My suggestion would be to take the original video down. Before I read one the comments I started following your original instructions. Thanks for making this video but that is my suggestion. For some reason the incorrect way came up first. Take care
Scott, thanks for the suggestion. Honestly I have thought about it but, truth be told, it is not the “wrong” way but more difficult. In fact, you MUST remove the head if the line has fallen inside or is tangled inside the head. But I do appreciate your feedback!
I'm embarrassed by this simple solution! Why brain? Why you no think of this?
No worries. Now you know. And now when you share w others, you don’t HAVE to tell them where you got the idea. 😉
Does the 3M Worktunes have a decent sound quality and bass? It's a shame that they don't use USB-C but the outdated and vulnerable Micro-USB. USB-C is now quite standard these days.
USB-C is the industry standard nowadays but, yes, these headphones have GREAT sound. They also have great sound muffling being over the ear.
@@FieldGuidetoDIY Thanks for the answer!
What do you mean "easy?" It is a huge pain in the you-know-what!! Turning the cap from lock to unlock took me ten minutes and I was unable to turn it back. It is a piece of junk. Going back to the store.
This way may be easier ubless the line is twisted and tangled on the spool - Head Removal - Ryobi Weed Wacker String Trimmer String Replacement kzread.info/dash/bejne/fahnvNdyj7TIdJc.html
@@FieldGuidetoDIY Thanks for the reply. I had thought about using a C clamp and after watching the other video I tried it. No go. It wouldn't stay on and the top part overlaps the lower part so the C clamp is in the way. I tried to get it back into the unlocked position by just using the cap and not including the spring nor the spool. It would not budge. So, I took it back to Home Depot. Two guys at the returns counters spent 10-15 trying as well with no luck. Maybe I just got a bad one. So, it is now gone and I am now with a DeWalt.
LED lights are fire! Love the look.
Thank you!! Greatly appreciated, Dave!
The Amazon link no longer works
Thank you for reaching out. Hmm. I just checked it. geni.us/wJPc. It led me right to it.
Good job!
Thank yiu!
👍👍👍 Gives a nice ambiance. Thanks Eddie
I totally agree. Thank you, sir!
"you don't need to take the head off..." Yeah unless the head is broken and you had to get a replacement. Change the damn name of this unhelpful video because it's f"**ing click bait 👎🏼
Thanks for taking the time to chime in. I beg to differ. I can’t tell you the number of folks who’ve contacted me thanking me for the head removal instructions because their line had either fallen inside the spool or had gotten tangled inside the spool. In those cases, they needed to take the head off to replace the line. Again, your comments are most appreciated!!!

Absolutely!
Mine doesnt look like that. It's more basic.
Sorry to hear that.
You the man! Thank you!
You are so welcome. Thank you so much for watching. So glad it helped.
You do need to take off the bottom if you loaded it, like in your other video, and the first time you use it the string brakes. It can be fixed easily by feeding the string through the exit holes and make sure its free. Tkx for both videos.
Thank you, Jim. Much appreciated.
If Michael from Vsauce was a plumber… 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Thanks!
Absolutely!
Is it as strong as the 4-6 hr one? What is the pressure rating?
Coming soon.
I have a problem turning and locking the head to the weed wacker body. I note you had too, but less than me.

Hi all, where is this crank? Somewhere in the weed wicker or is it stored separately?
Stored separately. It should have come in the packaging.
This was a really helpful comparison!
So glad it helped! Thank you for watching.
Thank you
Absolutely!
The problem with blink is that the app takes sooo long to open, it makes it useless when someone rings the doorbell, by the time you open the app they're gone. No wonder that have a 2 star review on the app/play store I'll be switching to ring soon
Thanks for sharing, Tim. Not my experience. I am not sure what the difference would be.
theres tape, zip ties, super glue now jb weld. cant be beat.

I'm a total noob with the speed square, so forgive me if I'm wrong (if I am, please point out why, so I can learn). Other videos I've watched about using speed squares emphasize that the mark should always be made on the pivot point side - the side with the inch scale - but at 7:10 you're marking along the degree scale side instead, for the 6:12 pitch. Is that the right way to make that mark? What am I missing?
Thanks for this!
Absolutely!
Use a flat heat on the top casing attached to the handle when turning clockwise, this should help with leverage
Thanks for the tip.
Turn it on and click twice to put it in pairing mode. Now I know! Thank you so much. I put the work tunes on the shelf when I couple pair them again after allowing another device to pair them. Liking this video! I appreciate it so much. It’s been months without it.
Klash, so glad it helped. Thank you for the love. Most appreciated!
Unnecessary to take it all apart. You just put it through all the way in as long as the arrows on the yellow part are pointed to the correct arrows on the gray part then it makes a straight line hole all the way through so just feed the string all the way through without taking it apart and then make sure it’s equal on either side and then, just reel it in.
Absolutely right, unless the line is twisted or fouled in the spool. Head Removal - Ryobi Weed Wacker String Trimmer String Replacement kzread.info/dash/bejne/fahnvNdyj7TIdJc.html
Can you reload the string by wacking it on the ground? (While there's still available string in the spool)
Only if there is line sticking out. Also gently bouncing it on the lawn will release a small amount of line.
I used this product and it kept sucking the container into a blob. I had to disconnect and restart using it.
Hmm. That did not happen to me. I appreciate you sharing your experience.
Not easy
Sorry to hear that.
Thanks for the info, you might want to get a real saw. That Ryobi is struggling.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the tip.
Other creators should learn from you. Straight to the point and helpfull
From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Most appreciated!
It isn't a good bet in my experience. My spool wouldn't run the new filament through. No way, no how, no matter how much I fiddled, re-watched the videos, lined things up, and used their own filament instead of the generic green stuff. Good luck to you.
Thank you for sharing your results!
My string went inside the head...to get at it, I had to take the head apart...now I can't get it back together to work. I get it together but the handle cannot crank the string...it will not turn. '
I wonder if there is some grit or something blocking it. To troubleshoot, See if it will go together without the spool, then without the spring, then without the line.
good stuff, ty sir.
Absolutely! Glad to help.
