-Aaa... yeah, well, I don't know -- válaszolja Sid, kezében Heineken dobozos sör.

- Maguk, fiam, a zenei képzetlenségüket próbálják a hangerővel ellensúlyozni?

- Yeah, well, maybe. -- Sid szeme félig lehunyva, meghúzza a sört.

- Mondja fiam, tud maga szolmizálni? Hallott már a módszeremről? Kodály-method? Kodály-system?

- Aaa... system sucks.

I, for one, am digging the jazzy sound of this early cover of "Young Man Blues". Like several other great rock bands of that era, The Who were jazz-adjacent.

I can hear these R&B jams as the foundation for what what The Who did later in their career.

Great photograph, by the way. Keith Moon was only 17 or 18, and he looks like he's twelve years old. ("A talented boy with some behavior problems ...")

It's interesting to hear how strong and tough the twenty-year-old Daltrey's vocals are in this performance -- like a young, white Howlin' Wolf. It's kind of amazing that these four guys got together when they were just kids.

Interesting to see "Young Man Blues" in this set. This Mose Allison tune remained a staple of their live performances for at least the next 15 years. They took the great Mose Allison song and completely transformed it.

Amazing - effectively, it's the sound of British musician's at the time, echoing their idols from across the pond - it's close to a direct copy and done incredibly well. It's mimicry of the best kind - the kind that eventually produces new music - and you can already hear it starting to morph in this, starting to change into a more unique sound. You can also hear the Lead Belly Riff at around 47:00 - as made famous by the Kinks (you really got me) - it's all in this recording, the birth of British Blues, at first, lovingly copying the originals and then later, expanding and adding that British sound. Actually, it could be copying it incorrectly that adds the originality, or perhaps emulating the spirit of it all - who knows. The long history of the entire thing is complex and confusing - but we do know that Rock 'n Roll origins are American and probably African too. Love it.

Engem az Aerosmith-re emlékeztet. Tekintve, hogy nekik csak 1973-ban jelent meg az első lemezük, mondhatjuk, hogy ez a szám is megelőzte a korát.
