Loved hearing your answers! My oldest had a very similar experience in the public school system, so I can relate. I appreciate the advice you shared and your ability to reflect and learn from things you’ve done in the past. I wish that advice was around when I started homeschooling. I think I would’ve found my way a lot sooner.

What a shame. I love the colored series so much. I have a dyslexic child who has thrived with the earlier version. We tend to stretch books for more than one school year, but that is so sad to hear that the format in the letter series is so drastically different. I wonder if they are set to do a revision anytime soon. I once called their customer service and unlike other textbook publishers, they do actually talk to homeschoolers, I wonder if they would be receptive to customer feedback to make it align better in the 6-12 versions.

Its nice to put a face with the voice. :) My son has not been officially diagnosed with adhd but we are pretty sure he does have adhd and you are so right. As parents we need research and do the best to help our kiddos so they can learn well and in a way that works for them! My son is 7 and starting 2nd grade this year.

I use sticky notes in books just like that instead of writing down the chapters in my planner. It’s so much more functional and easy to do.

I just googled ADHD in Adults and read the symptoms on the Mayo Clinic website and I have every single one. I don't know what that means for me since it changes nothing and it seems like the symptoms would apply to the majority of people.

Not everyone has ADHD but many people may experience some similar symptoms at some point in their lives. I think it becomes an issue when symptoms are severe enough to cause ongoing problems in more than one area of someone’s life.

I deeply appreciate you opening the door on this conversation and sharing your thoughts. I have realized through my own child that I too likely have ADHD and you’re so right, sometimes it is the parent who isn’t able to be as effective as they’d like. I’m absolutely in the “getting my $h!+ together” phase, but am struggling to figure out how to do so, though I know it’s a huge piece to a more successful homeschool. I hope you’ll consider sharing more about homeschooling ADHD children as an ADHD adult, as I don’t see much currently, but think it would be incredibly helpful and valuable to this community. Also, the part about picking curriculum for the homeschool teacher you are vs. the one you wish you were, snaps to that! I wish I could have learned that lesson YEARS ago. 😅

I count our ADHD work as health lol so I didn’t have to add yet another subject. Because I feel your nervousness every year that I’m doing too much. I don’t think you are, but I understand your feelings. So, one year I’ll do health with like nutrition, exercise, etc. And then other times I do his ADHD work as health instead.

I am impressed with your planning! I like the idea of highlighting areas they will be working with you. That really helps to visualize your time requirements. Not this upcoming school year, but the following is when I plan to split my two older kids. Due to their ages it just makes more sense to split their work.
