    I actually went to Oxford a couple of years ago. I remember one summer night in second year, I was at a party and there was this girl there who was really, really drunk. At one point she let out the longest, loudest fart I've ever heard come out of a girl. It smelled so awful as well. It was shocking yet hilarious at the same time, definitely one of my funniest memories from university. Such fun times.

    This silly girl complains that accepting the ‘best of the best’ is “bougie”; contra-wise she elevates the principle of mediocrity (‘very accepting’ is a constant refrain) almost as an article of faith. She hardly comes off as a serious scholar or potential public intellectual. Vapid, shallow, entitled. Almost every video about oxbridge colleges features whining snowflakes from state schools who revel in grievance politics against students from private schools - as if that is an automatic disqualification from inclusion in the human race; she has a real chip on her shoulder about anything that is traditional (all-male clubs are ‘toxic’ almost by definition). More and more of Britain’s best and brightest students dint even consider Oxbridge as their first choice, on account of the insipidity mediocrity; they now look to American Ivy League schools where they stand less chance of being discriminated against on the assumption that demonstrated academic excellence (ie merit) implies an unfair advantage in consideration of admissions. Oxbridge is not just sort of juiced up post-comp that can be used to credentialise second-rafters in their quest to become future DEI czars; it is supposed to represent the zenith of high-calibre intellect of the next generation of the ruling class. It is slowly but surely becoming a PC exercise in just so much box-ticking.

    As someone who goes to ChristChurch I'd say everyone who goes there is that I've talked to is very nice. The tutors I've got are friendly and fairly young. There are a lot of private school people here but half of them you wouldn't be able to "tell" unless they told you. It is a beautiful college though! But I am aware we have a reputation if you tell someone from a different college oh I'm from Christchurch they may go ew 😭 but I promise most of us are nice.

    So, going on this video, the 'reality' of being black at a uk university is that you don't experience racism but you are free, as a black person, to be as racist as you want to be. Maybe it's the white saviour liberal apologist moron who is looking for racism where there is none. He is the real enemy of us all, but especially the black people.

    There are 27,000 universities in the world. This year Leeds University is ranked at 86 the QS international tables which brings it within the top one third of one percent of world universities.. It is of course a Russell group university. The top 100 employers in the UK (ie The High Flyers' report which is viewable online) ) publish an annual ranking of the 20 universities whose graduates they favour most. In the real world this counts for quite a lot more than the often baffling and sometimes downright bizarre national rankings that appear in publications like the Times and the Guardian newspapers (Lancaster and Loughborough universities were consistently placed as top ten universities in the Times national rankings???!!! You have got to be kidding!!!). For 2022 the High Flyers' list places Leeds at number 5 out of 120 UK universities for employment appeal. Cambridge is ranked at number 7 and Oxford is ranked at number 10. As the biggest centre outside London for banking and legal services Leeds is the wealthiest city in the north of England with upmarket shops, restaurants and cafes. The university has an embracing and safe feeling campus 10 minutes walk from the thriving city centre. On and around the campus there is some lovely architecture and a buzzing social scene. Of the UK's 120 universities Leeds falls consistently within the top three for the number of applicants. With an impressive international standing for the quality of its research and a first rate social scene Leeds will always be a serious choice for a great many academically gifted undergraduates and postgraduates. Leeds is also one of the most international universities in the world.

    I'd love to know more about Pembroke college as Tolkien was an exceptional professor there. In his biography it states that back in his day the minimum requirement for lectures a year for student was around 36 but him being a next level philologist and lingual prodigy did around 135 a year. It's opposite Christchurch

    Hi, does anyone have extracurriculars or competitions you recommend doing? I’m thinking about applying for chemistry at oxford :)

  • @goofyboy2627
    @goofyboy26272 жыл бұрын

    I don't do chemistry myself but general advice for applying to Oxford is learn as much about your subject as you can - the tutors will care much more about how you answer questions in your interviews than extracurriculars you've done or other skills you write about in your personal statement. Since chemistry (I believe) doesn't have an entrance test, there's a high interview rate so your best bet is to focus on preparing for that. Hope this makes sense!

    I would advise potential applicants to take this video with a massive pinch of salt. It's incredibly biased, prejudiced and unbalanced. Whilst I have nothing against LMH, as an Oxford alumni, I'd probably rank it bottom of the mainstream undergraduate colleges that were discussed, whereas the interviewee clearly thought otherwise. Many comments made were generalisations at best!
