Hello. Welcome to the channel. I'm just an old retired guy, a city firefighter paramedic of 36 years service. I live near Tacoma, WA. I have a wide range of interests but they all seem to converge focus on mechanical stuff. I try to do all of my own work. Everything from roofing my house, to fixing my vehicles and other equipment. I have had a lot help from people on KZread. It seems if there is something you need to do, somebody has a video on it. This channel is my attempt to give something back to the rest of the content providers who have taken their time for no compensation, shot the video, edited it (which is a whole other story of frustration) and put it out there. There is a lot of garbage but videos made to help people solve a problem are priceless. I am learning and trying to improve my content all the time. I hope you find them helpful and even entertaining. If so touching the Subscribe button cost you nothing, and helps us to know, what we are doing is worth the time.

is that pump frothing the oil? Sure looks like it has a different color/consistancy on the output side. I could be wrong and maybe its the lighting..
I was hoping to see how to do it without the bleeder tool
Thanks for all of the info I learned alot. All of my screws were buggered up as you put it. I just bought the bike. I guess I'm going to invest in some jis tools
You start out by saying it’s a beautiful day here in the NW. where abouts are you? I’m in Port Orchard, WA.
I was in Lakewood at that time, now I'm in Yelm.
I'd hate to buy that bike after he "put it back together". It would not stand one of my inspections. But some poor sap could get hosed. I only watched about 4-5 minutes. The first 23 minutes are a great time to take a dump. I love the part with the pneumatic ratchet and hose just to remove the 8MM bolts that hold the saddlebags on. Of course we couldn't see WTF he was doing. Most of the Valkyrie riders out there knew anyway. Very entertaining !!
Who forced you to watch it?
Did you resolved the problem? I had the same problem
Next time, loosen the handlebar bolts, and rotate the bars forward, a little, until the clutch reservoir is level.
I am starting to work on one that hasn't run for 10 years myself.
Enjoy! I'll restart making videos of this one soon. I moved to it halted my progress for a year plus while I finish my new workshop.
Only 2 hoses that have to come off the tank. The hose that goes to the back of the petcock can be remove by taking it off from the last or back carburetor plenum area on left side of bike. Just remember to route it again as you reset tank on the bike.
Great video, thanks! You reference the adjustment window plastic device near the bell but I may have missed it, I don’t see you using that. How do you use that? Should you use that to make the measurements? What is it for? Thank you in advance
I'm sold
Thank you! I successfully removed my tank and checked the air filter. Now ready to install a new petcock and put the tank back on. Enjoyed your patience and wording " a bit of a wrestling match" with removing the two hoses from the petcock (which it was!), "hunt for a few threads" when reinstalling the fuel tank, etc.
Happy it helped!
Thank you so much for this. I’ve got a 600 tenere 55W, do you know if I need to empty the oil before opening it up like this? Havn’t got a workshop so don’t want a flood around the apartments.. Thank you!!
Sorry I sure don’t.
Well done Craig! I've got a 2001, with about 350k miles. I also need to install a new steering box. I watched the 1st video, but don't see the other 2. Can you send me links? I also need to do my parking brake so watched your video as well. You do excellent work my friend! It's much appreciated!!
Hi Kelly, Gee thanks for the kind words. Here is part 2 of the steering series. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qGiuqNCwdMexdJc.html
Here is part 3. Thanks for watching and commenting! kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZIBq3JeIcrmppJc.html
@@usethenoodle Thanks Craig. Appreciate it. Is there a Part 3 as well?
Out of curiosity, where can we dispose of all of that coolant? I want to do a full flush on my 99, but don’t know what to do with it afterwards.
Usually a landfill has a hazmat recycling center. You can take it there for free in most cases. They will see it gets handled properly. They will take old gasoline and solvents too.
I see you made the tool, thanks for the video !
Where can I get that adjustment tool ?
One thing I found helpful with the locating pins and brackets was to “exercise” the bracket, similar to before putting shocks on a truck. I took my needle nose and pressed the clip down on the ground to touch the other side like 3x each clip. Helped to get the pin thru a bit easier as you dont have to fight such a high level of tension.
What size wheel do you have and what setting did you find best for wheel size mine is a 21 inch.
Learned something new today, thank you! 😊
Hi Craig- thanks for all your videos! How is the seal holding up with hi-temp red? Deciding whether I should use it or not with my new motorcraft seals. 2002 F250.
Worked great. Thanks for the assist.
Next time find TDC by rotating the crank counter clockwise, the way the motor turns when running.
What seat do you have?
My seat and the trunk are made by Corbin.
GREAT BIKES! Safe rides, and have a great season.
Nice ride!! I have a 2015 Gunner. Finally getting her ready to get out
Tap for the T-slot is M 14 X 1.50. Use a 12.5mm drill bit
Agreed.
Very generous that you recorded this tour for history enthusiasts to come across. Very nicely done. We thank you.
Thanks Rob.
Too tight. Also, you need to measure the slack with the bike on the ground, not up on the jack.
This guy is qring about the fluids.
Craig, what is the red string / wire runnig through clear plastic tubing over passenger side battery?
Oh, It's a piece of red para-cord that goes through a short length of vinyl tubing, tied between the pickup points on the battery I had rigged as a handle to lift up the battery to remove it. The Interstate brand batteries don't have a grab handle on them to lift them in and out. I took those off as the battery environment over a couple years rots the cord and you could drop your battery. So I use the correct battery pick up strap to lift them now days. I had one fail during a lift and thankfully no harm was done. But, I don't trust them anymore. Cheers!
what about those who say running tap water through adds minerals?
Well, most tap water does have minerals in it. I've moved since I made that video but my water at the old house was very soft. Here at the new place I have my own well and I have a water softener. We have high iron here so I have several filters and a softener. But you need a lot of volume to get the green all the way out. I used distilled for my secondary flushes to clear out the tap water and the minerals That's the point of secondary distilled water flushing in the procedure, if I get your question. Drain the green, tap water flush to clear, secondary distilled flushing to clear the tap water and then mix and add the new coolant. This procedure wasn't my design. I got it off of one of the online Diesel forums and used it as it looked pretty fool proof and thorough. My red ELC seems to be doing fine and I love not having to deal with the nitrate testing and additives. I keep a gallon of the 50/50 mixed on hand to add as needed.
Great video. The best video out there describing how to adjust the tension. Regarding centering the belt. YOUR belt was all the way to the left. You adjusted the left alignment knob in a certain direction. If I wanted to adjust OPPOSITE of yours, would I simply turn that very same adjuster in the opposite direction? Forgive me for such a silly question, but I'm not very mechanical and I don't want to pay a $130/hour labor charge for something that I could possibly do myself. So I'm going to risk a stupid question and save $130 potentially.
Hi Chris, I hope all is well. In the time since that video was made, I have come to a realization that you don't want to get too crazy over where the belt tracks on the driven pulley as long as it is within the running channel. The main thing is that it is tracking within the limits of the outer edges of the pulley, and not riding up over or on it. You can drive yourself crazy trying to fine adjust it to ride center. I know that's what the manual calls for but I've found it unrealistic. It will wonder back and forth over several rotations. In my humble opinion, as long as it remains in the running channel of the driven pulley, and shows no unusual edge wear, makes no racket of any kind, you are good. This issue can drive a guy nuts. Best wishes... Craig
@@usethenoodle I really appreciate your candid feedback on this. These machines are so expensive and we become so attached to them that sometimes we can get a little crazy with how we care for them. I was ready to spend a lot of time getting that belt 2 mm to the left. Thanks for responding. Have a great day.
You too, As the last line of my reply said..."This issue can drive a guy nuts." I should have added, "Ask me how I know". My belt is original and at 26,000 miles, it still looks like new. It will wander side to side over several rotations but always stays easily in the running channel. I'm happy to help. Best wishes... Craig@@krismerchant4982
I will put an oring in the thermostat housing
The o-ring is part of the thermostat.
Thanks it was a great video & you reminded me I need to change the oil in my transfer case to …
Switching to red coolant is pointless! Literally no point. Also, the thermostat can be put in any direction on a 7.3.
Don't do it then.
@@usethenoodleNice video Sir. If some people only thought before they posted…
I have a question I saw in one of the video he drained from the transmission hose before the cooler, and I saw in your video you drained after the cooler right? by common sense your technique is better because you can drain also what is left inside the cooler unless they have a reason why they drain it before cooler. what is your take on that?
beautiful little war pony thanks for sharing ..be safe
Thanks Hoof! Same to you!!
Good God what a process. Thermostat went out in my OBS 7.3. In the process of research I realized I have coolant in my truck that I should not. Problem is it’s wintertime In ND with no shop… Going to have to make a cold mess or call a shop. Darn it anyway lol. Great tutorial tho
Good Luck! ya, it's a dirty job.
Got it done. Went pretty well. Thanks for the video, helped lots.
That’s the smartest and cheapest insurance you can do to prevent expensive transmission failures.
I just did it the other night again. Every 15,000. It took me about 3 hours.I agree with you 100%
Sir, I just reviewed your video prior to starting this entire job of pulling the axle shafts and replacing the seals, cleaning and repacking my bearings, installing new shoes, springs, and adjuster and I have to it’s the most thorough and well done video in all of freaking KZread bar none!!!! 1,600 plus views and very few likes just blows my mind. I would like to thank you for all of the great info. I’ve watched a few and the springs a placed on incorrectly just waiting to rub on the hub, throwing away the slinger with the inboard seal and not reinstalling it, improper adjustments, and not realizing that the driver’s side rear is a left hand thread. You should be commended for the proper time to show and describe everything! Hell, I just watched this one video and subscribed to your channel today. Best of luck…
Song?
Really great video. I just did mine on my 2002 F250 7.3 which is a little different on the install, but the quality of the kit was first rate. Took me WAY longer than I expected with some choice swear words being used.
Fantastic! I'm happy it helped you out. Warmest Regards.
Nice video and agree with Dan that leaving the close calls in helps everyone. I always used the kickstand when loading and unloading on my enclosed trailer. Like you said, don't want any bike to tip over too much. I believe I'll use more of the non-skid material on the extensions when I install mine though for more control of me!
Thanks James. I really appreciate it!
That box damage isn't UPS, it's the shipping line from China that throws things around like that.
It’s best to put some anti-seize compound on the threads so they don’t corrode and get stuck for the next time.
😊 I have a 16 Vintage. I will be installing this battery today. Love your indian floor boards.
I just ordered the quickchange tool part you recommended. And the key slot from Grizzly. Thanks for showing me this.
Can you connect an air compressor to it?
