I have been doing this with 60 minutes of Brazilian music. As i do this i have noticed i am picking up subtle things I didn't hear before. Like in the song Oracao, when they sang Cabe O, or Cabe Uma, i wasn't hearing the end of Cabe. But now I hear it. In the song Boa Sorte when she sings especiais i was hearing speci... Not especi... Now i can hear the espec... There are other examples. Point is, repeated listens have enabled my brain to distinguish the sounds and words, without me trying.

Kids repeat watch things the moment it ends. Movie end, watch again right away.

That is such a good show for this. I have literally watched it at least once for every language I tried to learn for real, so about eleven times so far hahaha.

I suggest Immersive translate for those who are struggling with foreign languages it is a good app for learning and translation.

I have inadvertently been doing this while trying to learn Russian. I listen to some favorite pop songs a lot - and as I become more familiar with them, I even know what to expect and can sing along (without understanding exactly what I am singing). Well lately, I have noticed that sometimes an oft-repeated passage jumps out at me and I find that I *understand* it! 😮Amazing! 😄

Yeah! So many of us do it without even realizing how helpful it is haha. I remember when I was like 9, I used to listen to Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" on repeat and learned the lyrics without even knowing what I was singing. What surprised me was how quickly I started to feel more comfortable with English phonetics and pronunciation. I think that really helped me out haha.

This is amazing advice! I've done this unconsciously for many years and I always felt the benefits almost immediately. I have a couple go-to series which I watched when starting all my new languages and before branching out into content specific to each one. When you know the scenes almost by heart it gives you a huge boost in comprehension and subsequently motivation!! :)

Thank you! I'm really glad you liked it and btw you are totally right that knowing what the characters are supposed to say is really helpful when figuring it the words they are using, and it feels great to see that you actually understand it :)
