Because I made a custom extended Brushed Stainless Steel Pick guard loaded with 3 quad rail/coil humbuckers wired like 50's Les Paul with P/P vol. pots for coil splitting and the bridge tone pot also a P/P to activate the bridge and neck P/Ups together regardless of any other controls all the pots are 500K audio taper and the tome caps are .047 orange drops. there are 6 pots total because 3 humbuckers and the Fender 5-way blade selector switch and a kill button round out the controls that are all grounded through their cases to the Pick guard including the output jack also mounted in the pick guard just rearward of the bridge... Yup Yup, wiring all these goodies was quite the adventure , soldering all those connections to make everybody play nicely with each other ans sounding great...realizing that the usual/traditional wire was way to big/thick for the minimal current produced by the P/Ups, I stripped out a computer VGA Cable for the small stranded wires in it which are fine for the minimal current they must transmit through the circuit to the output jack and into the amp where that little bit is multiplied so much anyway... . and the different colors in there were hands to use in the detailed circuit One color for each P/ up and pot set.. as well as the custom wiring for the bridge and neck P/ups working together independently of the other controls when activated by the bridge tone P/P [pot for that little tricks made up for it... lol ... the rest is fairly standard coil splits and the rest... it all works fine if so very different from any other Strat. I had originally shielded the extended control cavity with the copper tape but then had unwanted ground issues so stripped it out and checked if I really needed it.. and reall no so left it without as all is grounded through the stainless steel of the pick guard through the pot casings and switch frames it's fine as is,, imagine what it sounds like with 3 vol., 3 tone, a 5-way switch coil splitting and a kill button just for fun ... So, how many tones do you thing I can get with all these adjustments available in just this guitar.. and add to that my little Blackstar ID Core stereo 4o Amp. (V1) with all of it's built in effects ... I won't even try to count them all.. lets just say it's a lot... lol My "Stellarcaster" , which started life as a cheap Chinese made 'Starcaster'-'Strat'- electric guitar By: Fender.. I bought used at my local Music-Go-Round a few years ago, in order to do this extreme rebuild/mod to my design, with all those neat little tricks in it... MY "Stellarcaster" really rocks the Cosmos...Wanna Play??? Lmao

You have reviewed two guitars that I am considering. Between this and Guild Surfliner Deluxe, which would you choose overall for tone, playability, build quality, etc. You gave both really good reviews. This would be for clean tones (not overdriven) for surf, folk, and Americana.

I do not have the 66 JM yet.. But I do have the 73 strat and 72 thinline.. And I have absolutely no issue with them at all, they were perfect in every way. I am marking this down as, they were pumping them out. Covid guitars. Hit and miss, from all manufacturers, if you could get one. I feel like 23 things started getting better. Mine are great, but I am researching these. I apreciate your honesty.

After getting the message loud and clear to avoid the early Marr models due to quality issues, he then proceeds to inform us that this is a $2500 guitar that needs a fretboard wood treatment and polish, then a complete fret dress to make it playable?🤔 I’ve just paid $450 for a new Yamaha Revstar that’s flawless, sounds great and is THE most comfortable guitar I’ve ever laid hands on. Marr is probably the last generation of older players with a big enough name that Fender can cash in on. Following the end of that era, they will fall into a straight dogfight with the ‘lesser’ brands, and be judged solely on build quality and value for money. On current form they will lose this battle in spectacular fashion. For those that are still fans of the brand, maybe some tough love is required in order for them to get their act together? An old line from the world of politics springs to mind: ‘Don’t vote. It only encourages them’!😂

I have this guitar in Seafoam Green and it's shockingly good! It's a surf machine. Bright, punchy, hot and that middle position is very tube like and snappy. And it's everyone's favorite looking guitar of my collection. Stellar all around!

Awesome video and years late to the party but I've acquired one second hand on the strength of your excellent review video and channel 😊 Quick question what degree shim should a Jazzmaster have ideally in a standard setup (0.25°, 0.5°, 1° etc?) Again many thanks on a great job and channel 👍🏻 Mike UK

I’m starting a reggae/punk/ska band and I’ve been looking for an interesting guitar that looks nice to use and I think this may be the one. Currently I use a strat and I own an es 335 but I’m looking to custom build a jaguar very similar to the Johnny Mar model. Wondering if anyone here has any tips or words of advice I could receive on the topic of constructing the guitar and what genres it would be good to use for

Its not that rare, and people weren't running out the door for a 62 jazzmaster for a guitar that was their first guitar during COVID, $9k is a bit much its all original I would put it around $3-5k for a 60's normally but I would say $5-6k for the shape and the all original parts. If you think $9k you are dreaming hard here just like the morons trying to sell them now for $40k, same goes for strats and teles and other guitars. You need more rarity to be worth more like 1-10 rarity, alot of that could be if it had the factory Gold hardware or a more uncommon color that wasn't seen for those years, grant it we don't have an exact number on the amount produced but I have seen way too many of them over the years personally speaking, and these prices are hyperinflated by wanna be economists and investors in the guitar market and Musicians that well make piss poor consumers and are gullible as hell. You can list a price that you want that isn't saying people are paying that and its being bought for that. Also Your shit isn't worth as much as you think it is, this unicorn BS needs to end its causing newer guitar prices to inflate because some people are idiots willing to take out a loan.

The low E string popping out while playing is why a lot of players install a Mastery bridge. After that, there's no way that string is jumping out of the saddle slot no matter how hard you flog it.

I do woodworking as a hobby and this is terrible craftsmanship. I would never feel comfortable selling a botched product like this. I had similar issues with an American « pro » II Jazzmaster… scratches and swirls on the finish, chipped pickguard, glue stains on the switches, a switch that was short-circuiting, the neck pocket had irregularities in the carving, the sanding on the fretboard was terrible and uneven (to hide tool marks I believe) and the poly on the edges was peeling, the frets were roughly installed, but not flat at least. This was out of the box. I really wanted to love it, but for more than 2k$ CAN it was an insult. I returned it and the people at the store said I was being too picky and they didn’t see the problems. I had to send it to a Fender tech to get a report and a refund. I finally bought a used American Pro II strat that is flawless compared to that guitar that needed a lot of love… and the sad thing is that they just sold it to another customer a couple days later due to high demand. Fender America really needs to do something about their quality control.

You might not able to answer this Q. But why isnt the tremolo system routet into the body of the guitar? It would give a better angle for the strings, and would look really nice i think. Thinking of doing this to my squier jazzmaster
