  Manzanita burl is so pretty! I've seen several makers use it and it never disappoints. Great color combination between the burl and the resin. I love it.

  The look of the wood reminds of cork, but I have no idea what the cork oak wood looks like.

  Is cork oak the same as the cork we make bottle plugs from? If so, this was much denser than that. It's relatively soft, but definitely a hard wood. Even the spalted sections were pretty dense.

  No idea on the wood, but that sure was a weird blank -- did they core it out of a log at an angle, then wax it? Regardless, it turned out just amazing. Couldn't design that sort of interplay on purpose, between the... bark? and the wood itself. Wow.

  Yeah, it was very strangely shaped...almost had an "knife's edge" on the round blank

  Not that I know of, especially when it’s got a lot of spalting in it like that one does. I know of several that can do it by bark or leaves
